Hello There - I'm New

Hi there all you pacemaker wearers out there.

I'm new to this site today. What an amazing site. I didn't appreciate that a site like this existed. I now don't feel alone.

I was feeling a bit low and deflatted today, after having a pacing check with my team in Dorset. They informed me today that my battery needs replacing again. The pacing team in Dorchester are totally fab and we've had a good chat today and I feel at ease again.

I had my first pacemaker put in when I was 15 yrs old in April 1985. I used to faint a lot (up to 7 times a day). I just couldn't stay upright at all which was a real problem when in my teens at school. My peers used to take the mickey out of me ridgedly, and made my life at school a misery! In Dec 1992 I had my first battery change, then had another one fitted in Feb 2001. It looks like I'm now about to have another one in the next month or so. My pacing team said today they'd be in touch in the next 2-3 weeks to arrange a date.

All I can say to all of you out there, is that having these pacemakers in have changed my life so much. I have an excellent quality of life, and a pacemaker doesn't restrict me at all in my day to day life. I even had a baby in 1996 with a pacemaker (he's 12 yrs old now). I even run the Race for Life over the past couple of years.

We are all really lucky that we can continue to have more or less, normal lives having our pacemakers in. People find it very hard to believe I even have heart problems at all. I'm a real Tigger and have loads of bounce and I think that having a pacemaker makes me different and special to everyone else !! It's a great conversation piece if nothing else !!!!

Be happy everyone.
Julie :-)

I too am a new member to this site. I have a St. Judes brand new, latest model. I have had afew problems with my pacemaker, such as being more short winded and also a feeling of a rapid heart beat.
I had a knee replaced 5 weeks ago and maybe all of that trauma has somethng to do with it. I have had afew adjustments and hope it soon settles down.
I am so happy to have found this site as I don't know anyone that has a pacemaker to talk to.
Thanks so much.

Welcome

Hi Julie,

Welcome to the CLUB. Like you to Julie, I have not let the pm control my life. I go to the gym three times a week. Had to chuckle at my pacer check today, he asked what I was doing three times a week that made my heart race into the 120's. I could'nt lie - although I really wanted to...I had to admit it was the gym equipment that was turning me on around 2.00pm in the afternoon...

Keep well and safe.

SUE

You know you're wired when...

You fondly named your implanted buddy.
