Another question, and thanks

I wanted to know if anyone of you had your heart working only 15%, and if there is a way to make it work harder or higher.
Do the meds fix that. I was told that it can, was just wondering. Thank you all, you have already made me wiser to this new problem that I am going through. Thanks again

heart problem

Sorry to hear about your problem. My heart function is down to 20% so I have an idea what you are going through. They have told me for years not to expect to be here long but I keep plugging along. There are many experimental things going on now but my finances do not provide for this help so we have gopne back to basics and tried to learn as much as we can about blood and the heart. extra-cellular water is the most dangereous thing for people like us. Water around the heart makes the heart havae to work harder to pump blood throughout the body. I take a diureric daily and try to stay just o0n the edge of dehydrated without going over. Drinking pure water saves the body from having to process out thin gs that it can't use. We like the wal=mart sams choice. We had it tested and found that it was the best of commercial waters. The use of oxygen is also important, you can get a PO2 meter for around 400.00 and watch you O2 sats at home. I try to keep mine above 97 at aall times. This may be information that you already know about but I hope it helps. Best of luck to you, every day is a new one.

Pulse oximeter prices

by auntiesamm - 2008-07-24 07:07:06

I note your comment on using a pulse oximeter and the $400.00 price. A year ago my husband, who has end-stage emphysema, was in ICU then home coming home on continous O2. While searching for a PO online I came across www.portablenebs.com. For less than $75.00 I purchased a PO. Took it to ICU when visiting hubby and we checked it against the big, expensive POs they use. It was right on the number every time! We have continued to use it to monitor his O2 levels for a year with this PO. Two days ago the RN-NP was out to check on him and again we measured his O2 against the readings on her $400.00 PO - right on the number again. Since I first purchased ours online I have provided the info to a couple of physicial therapists and another homecare RN. Everyone is VERY pleased with these POs. For anyone who wishes to monitor their oxygen levels at home but can't see spending $300-400 you might want to check out the website.
