Depression

There have been a few posts lately about “just” prolonging your life with an ICD or pacemaker and about wanting to just die.

I don’t know how the rest of you fine folks feel but isn’t the whole idea of modern medicine to improve the quality & quantity of our lives?

I thank the Lord everyday when I’m granted the privilege of waking up to a new day one more time!

We all are forced at points in our lives to face medical challenges that we must meet head-on. I believe we have a duty not only to ourselves but to our families to take charge of these challenges. Then with the help of our doctors right ourselves as best we can!

Depression can be a huge issue for all of us that have heart problems. It is a real medical condition that can require some intervention before you’ll feel better.

Please – don’t be hesitant or embarrassed to talk with your doctor if you are feeling depressed. It won’t be the first time he/she has heard it and it won’t be the last.

We all feel a little down at times and talking to others (family, friends, and folks on this fine site) can really help. I know the information and encouragement I’ve received here and from my family has helped me a great deal several times.

But – If you’re feeling that you are just prolonging things or that you just want to die one must realize that is a little more then just feeling down. If this is the case you need to get some help just as you would for any other medical problem.

It doesn’t matter if you’re young, old or in between. Take charge of your life and of the medical treatment you receive. Don’t accept feeling bad as just part of the deal because it is not!

Thanks for your post. It makes it real that we are not alone. When you are in that moment of depression and aloneness, its so hard to know that. Its really hard being strong all the time,,so,realize you dont have to be,ask for help and do not accept anything but the best for yourself. You are worth it!!
the best to you Chip

Another way of looking at it.

For some of us choosing to die is giving up.
For some of us choosing to die is a mental illness
For some of us choosing to die is selfish.
For some of us choosing to die is a deliberate and well thought out decision.

It just depends who we are, our belief system, and many other factors. I respect any of these or other decisions.

Right now I am having too much fun in life to want to leave. Tomorrow all could change.

No mention of belief system

Cabg Patch, Chip didn't mention anything about his belief system other than that he thanks the Lord every day. There's nothing wrong with saying that and that's not Chip assuming that everyone believes in God. Come on now. If you read further in his comment he's talking about getting help through family, friends or getting professional help if needed. If he said anything about praying for help (which is also good advice) then you would have a valid statement. But he didn't. Even if he did doesn't mean you have to go and do it. It's simply advice. Either take it or leave it.
