Blood Pressure

Before I call the doc, my blood pressure has been jumping all over the place the last few weeks, not sure if it would be my machine or pressure. It ussally runs about 114/58 around there, but lately has been creeping up to around the 140/66 had it aday was hovering around 160 for some reason then went back down. Does anyone know anything about blood pressure?

BP readings....

There are many reasons for elevation and changes in BP. Here are just a few:

Are you taking your BP at the same time of day. BP can be effective based on when you take it.

Postural BP are you taking your BP standing or sitting?

Are you taking your BP on the same arm?

Temperature can affect your BP.

Has there been a change in your medications?

Have you been experiencing any pain?

Have you been under an increase amount of stress?

Did you just finish an activity?

For a lot of people just going to a doctors office can elevate their BP, they call that the white coat syndrome

A steady increase in your BP over an extended period of time can certainly be a sign of something more serious.

As I mentioned there are many reasons for a change in BP. If this recent change in BP is bothersome for you then yes you should most certainly discuss it with your GP. When visiting the GP it would be very beneficial to provide him/her the BP measurements, identifying the period of time they were taken, time of day and whether you were sitting or standing when you took the BP.

All the best, and good health to you.
