CHILLY NIGHT

HI

I JUST JOINED 5 MINUTES AGO. HAD ICD INSTALLED LAST WEEK. THE DOC CKECK UP WENT WELL TODAY.

MY QUESTION IS "HAS ANYONE ELSE EVER AWAKEN WITH GOOSE BUMPS AND BEING CHILLED TO THE BONE?'' A COUPLE MONTHS AGO IN THE SUMMER (80 DEGREES OUT) THIS HAPPENED TO ME. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS AND I'M SLEEPING ON AN ELECTRIC BLANKET, WITH 3 QUILTS ON TOP OF ME.

LAST NIGHT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED SINCE THE ICD INSTALATION LAST WEEK. IT FELT LIKE THE ELECTRIC BLANKET BURNING MY SKIN WHERE IT MADE CONTACT AND YET MY WHOLE BODY FELT LIKE AN ICECUBE AND MY HAIR WAS STAINDING ON END.

THE DOC SAID HE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. HAS ANYONE ELSE?

sounds like an infection or virus to me....perhaps you should get checked out by your family doctor as the flu is going around!! go for peace of mind!

good luck & please keep us posted.

oh..and ever since I've had my pacemaker (since 2004) I don't do well in the heat...sweat very easily as before I never did & I feel faint if in the heat very long. not fun.

Chill to the Bone

Hi RI Red, and welcome!

You're not alone. When I got home from my PPM surgery in June, I was always cold at bedtime. I even had the shakes, and couldn't stand the feel of cold sheets, showering, etc.

I don't know whether it was the surgery, antibiotics, sedatives, or medication (Metroprolol)doing it, but it was miserable.

Now that it's REALLY cold, I don't have a problem at all. So I'm hopeful your problem will go away too.

Good luck, and happy Thanksgiving to you and all!

do a temperature check

I have been more sensitive to cold since I've had my pacemaker and started taking Coumadin. Just be sure you don't overlook the possibility of chills and fever. Check your temp when you're feeling cold and after the chilly feeling subsides. Saturday I thought I was just cold, but when I warmed up I got very warm. I had a fever and pneumonia.

Feeling Chilled

by ElectricFrank - 2008-11-29 01:11:51

I also suggest taking your temperature next time you feel chilled. It sounds wierd, but when your body is developing a fever (your temperature is increasing) you will feel chilled. When the fever "breaks" and your temperature is going down you likely will feel hot and break into a sweat. This is all connected with the way our bodies control temperature.

So it is possible that you have an infection which is causing a fever. This can be serious so check it out and if you have a fever contact the doc. By the way it also pays to check your temperature when you are feeling OK to know what your "normal" temp is. It varies considerably between individuals. For me something in the 96.8 to 97.2 deg is normal. If I read 98.6 which is what most thermometers call normal I am sick.

It is possible also to develop hypothermia in which the body cools down excessively, but this usually only happens from exposure to cold.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
