Pain in implant area.

I have had my pacemaker for a year now without any complications. Yesterday I started having pain in the area where it is implanted and it is continuing today. It aches and itches and every once in a while I get a sharp pinch. I would think that after a year everything would be healed up. Is this anything to worry about?

just to be sure

Ask to be seen just to make sure it's nothing. Odds are it's nothing, but it's not impossible for an infection to develop months or even years later. If that's what's happening, you want to nip it in the bud.

Didn't bump it by any chance?

It is easy after a year to forget about having the pacer and do something that bumps it or reaching across with an arm and pinching it.

Pain

My pacemaker is way older than yours and I still can't carry my purse over my left shoulder or grocery bags in my left hand or I will pay for it in pain at bedtime. Sometimes it feels like it's turned completely over in my chest and I can't think of anything in particular I did that day to make it hurt. What Frank said is true--I bumped mine on the handle of the grocery cart and just about went through the ceiling it hurt so bad!

You know you're wired when...
