Hello

Hello. I am a new member to this forum and to the pacemaker user community. I'm 44 years old, live in London and had my pacemaker fitted on 12/01/2009.

I'd gone to visit my doctor after complaining of getting short of breath after very short walks. He sent me to see a cardiologist who diagnosed complete heart block and sent me straight to hospital. That was just over a week ago and I've just been sent home.

I feel 100% better although my left shoulder still aches slightly. I've got loads of questions for you all but for now I'll leave things there. Thanks.

I am so glad to hear they were able to get to the bottom of your problem.

I think you will find this site informative.

Best of luck in your healing....listen to your doctor and be kind to yourself...the discomfort will pass sooner than you know ....all the best!!!

cheers, Mary Anne

Just ask away - some people on here who really know a lot and can help. I am only 6 weeks in on my pm - and have learned so much here.

Welcome to the club. I'm 46 and am on my second PM and forget I have it most of the time. I still go to the gym and it doesn't hold me back at all except for getting rough with my 16 year old son who is bigger than me. :)

Take it easy at first and you'll be fine.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. Heckboy, I'm interested in how having your 2nd PM went as at some point over the next 6-8 years I'll need one. Is the procedure the same and did they change the leads too? The cardiologist told me that changing the leads was quite a bit more involved than the fitting of a PM.

Cause of my heart block

by bonneville - 2009-01-15 10:01:04

A few years back I was diagnosed with Wegener's Granulomatosis. I was put on a course of steroids to combat this and gradually as I improved my dosage was lowered. The rheumatologist believes that before the Wegeners was slowed/stopped it caused damage to my heart. Unfortunately the original rheumatologist that diagnosed the Wegeners didn't check if it had affected other areas in my body apart fom those I had problems with - my eyes and arm/leg joints.

Cause of your heart block

by HB23 - 2009-01-15 10:01:14

Did they happen to say what the cause of your heart block was?

I'm just wondering if its congenital or something else

My Drs are still trying to figure out what caused mine, but they know its not congenital

I'll be praying for your continued healing!
