Clinical Trial of MRI-Friendly Pacemaker

Has anyone had the Medtronic EnRhythm MRI SureScan (MRI friendly pacemaker) implanted? I realize that they recently started the U.S. clinical trial for the device, is anyone here part of the trial?

My doctors would like me to be able to have MRIs because I require them more than once a year for existing conditions. I plan...

GO FOR IT SMITTY

Hi Smitty. I read your comments on your reluctance to go for a biventricular pacemaker. I do think the doctors are right in thinking you really need a biventricular pacemaker. Just because your experieces with your current device have not all been positive, it does not mean that there is room for considerable improvement that a biventricular pacemaker would give you. The doctors have probably realised that the device you have is not quite appropriate for you. I too had a very low EF sometimes do...

After My Run

Hi

Have been cycling as you all must know, I bore people about it, but today I thought I would go for a longer run. I went about 2 miles, felt OK when running, legs a little like jelly but I haven't run since last September/October.

Since coming back home my heart went down slowly and reached the lower level but I feel slightly weird, anxious, and heart slight faster than normal but not dramatic. Do you think this is nerves or just getting use to the running again.

Sleep Apnea

Does anyone have sleep apnea? At my last pacer clinic visit they saw my heart was racing at night up to 150 bpm and now I am getting tested for this soon. I was wondering how people have made out with this, even though I don't think thats the problem. Thanks in advance,
Boatman

Spring sneezes

This is going to sound crazy but here goes.
It is spring, and the pollen is everywhere! I find myself having violent sneezing attacks. When this happens my chest hurts a little. I don't know if hurt is really the right word cause it isn't like pain pain. It is more like a cross between pain and discomfort. In addition to that, I live in an apartment and every time the people upstairs drop something it startles me. The same thing occurs then. I get the pain/discomfort in my chest. I...

Bike Ride

If you have had an ablation like I have your natural pacemaker has been completely disconnected from your ventricle. I think more is needed known as to what the reason for your pm is. I would be dead if I had to depend on my natural pacemaker in my atrium. All pacemakers are not created equal! Just trying to help. Good luck on your bike race! DD

Continuing the beeping episode

Thanks for all the comments. I rang Hobart, my Technician (EP) and asked if my pm could beep. Was informed no. But an icd would. So as I feel ok, my blood pressure and heartrate are ok. I will wait and see and wonder if it will happen again. I am so lucky I have continuous support. The Pacemaker Clinic is so good. Any worries and I just ring them and if they are busy the Techs will get back to me. I really bless those people. It is great to go down and see them for checkups.

Pacemaker interference

Okay, I know this sounds whacky, but I'm going to ask anyway.

When my pacemaker is pacing...is it possible for it to interfere with my laptop's wireless network?

Thanks for your thoughts.

setting off the anti theft sensor in the store

hi everyone,

I just have one question! Every time I go to the store or the market and they have the anti theft sensors well, I've always seem to make them go off with my pacemaker. They go off every time I go in and out. I was wondering if that would do anything to me. If I set them off anytime would that effect my pacemaker in anyway possible. If any one can has any idea please let me know, i would really appreciate it. I have another doctors appointment on Wednesday so i'm going to...

Can a pm beep?

Hi Pals

I was lying in bed and I heard a beep. I thought I had left my mobile under the pillow. No mobile no walkabout. I lay there thinking about where the noise had come from and I am sure it was my pacemaker. Am I going nuts? The noise was like the fire alarm when it is running low on battery.

Trial Studies

HI Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone on here has been in a study for your condition with your Pacemaker/ICD? Here is the web site http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct/gui/c/a1b/screen/BrowseAny?recruiting=true&path=%2Fbrowse%2Fby-condition%2Fhier%2FBC14.b&JServSessionIdzone_ct=7gc6qxqwa1

You can find all types of trials going on. I was thinking about doing one thats why I was asking if anyone else has done it.

Thanks and have a Great Day !!!

Surgery/dislodged pacemaker/anesthesia

My surgery has been can postponed for another week - since my pacemaker has been in for 8 years and has to come out - all the tissues and the pouch are inflammed and stretched since the displacement ( the 3 surgeries on the same area due to incorrect pacemaker insertion in 2000) - I am now going to New York City to my cardiologist/surgeon who needs to use a laser to remove the one lead that was not screwed on and to remove the scar tissue. Has anyone has surgery to remove a lead due to inflammat...

Firefighter fights back, With the help of brother firefighter.

I thought I was invincible, but 4 weeks ago the Department Doctor took me off the engine because I was missing a heart beat, Slow heart rate below 30 BPM, and then it would race to 144 BPM. On a Friday night I got a call, (Friday afternoon 4:30 PM) from my new doctor who said I needed a pacemaker and he would be doing it next Monday. To say the least I had a lot of questions and did not have time to get them answered ,the most important ones would I ever ride an engine again (32 Years on the j...

Ablation

Hello All!

I just came home from the hospital after having an AV Node Ablation. I went in for an EP Study last week, and nothing was found to ablate, but then on Wednesday night I had one of my episodes of fast heart rate and it didn't slow down on it's own like usual.
I called my doc first thing Thursday morning and she wanted me to go to the hospital for treatment and observation. When I got to the hospital, I was taken straight to Diagnostic Prep where my doctor was waiting f...

some can...

So a man went to jail, and he was in his cell, when someone said 34, and the whole hall erupts in laughter. The man asked his cellmate what was so funny. he answered, '' Well, weve all been here so long, that instead of telling the jokes, we numbered them. try it.''. so the man says ''72'', and everyone is silent. the man asked his cellmate what was wrong, and he answered '' well, some can tell 'em, and some can't''.

high ventricular rates

Hallo,
I received a copy of the EGM yesterday that my pacemaker recorded. It was recording for 32 days. It showed 8 episodes of ventricular rates between 125 -133 pm. All of them fell into the same time period of a few days, and they happened in the evenings. Strange thing is that I never felt any of them.
I have sick sinus syndrome and have a pacemaker for bradycardia, but I never had tachycardia until after a ear surgery on Jan. 16th.
At that time my cardio put me on Metoprol...

PM motion detector in 1 year old

Our son is about to have his motion detector turned on in his PM next week. Currently he has CHD which required pacemaker implant at 10 mos of age after two open heart surgeries at 4 days and at 4 mos of age. Over the past month he has not been very active when awake and we think that it is because his active heart rate has been between 80 - 100 bpm. His current PM is set to respond at 80 because he went bradycardic when he slept.

Is there anything that we should be aware of from...

How to read EGM

Hallo my pm friends,
I had my cardio appointment today. Thanks to all the great posts on this site, I was able to ask him a lot of questions and he spend more time with me as usual.
when i was hosptialized end of January , the techs turned on the EMG function of my PM. It was read a month later, but nobody explained to me what it meant or how to read it.
If someone has some knowledge about this, could you please sent me a private message. Perhaps someone can help me figure it out....

Positive renforcement

Hey guys! I know everyone is tired of hearing this, but I just absolutly LOVE this site! Everyone here has their own interesting story and we have all survived an almost certain death. So if there are any doctors or nurses out there, I just want to say thank you. Oh, I am still looking for quote "donations", so if you have any good ones, please drop me a line (no pun intended). Here's one to ponder:

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
