I was wondering how many of you wear a medical alert braclet or necklace to alert medical personnel of the pacemaker. I am very young and don't want to wear one. The worst part about my decision is that I am an ER nurse and also a Paramedic. The way I look at it is if they have to work on me and put me on a cardiac monitor and they don't see the pacer spikes then they are not that intellegant to begin with. However I am 100% paced and I know not everyone is!! So just wondering if I'm the only on...

On March 31st 2007 I collapsed and was taken to the hospital with a complete heart blockage. They had me in surgery within 30 minutes and installed a St Jude Pacemaker. Since release from hospital I have constant shortness of breath. Before th Pacemakere implant, I was able to excercise vigorously, and did 4 to 5 miles/day on a treadmill at a fast walking rate of 4.5MPH. Now I can hardly get the treadmill to 3MPH and can only stay on 15 to 20 min at best. I have been check out by a pumonlogist,...

Here’s a question to help us get back to the business of helping others.
I’ve been told by fellow members that caffeine can contribute to Atrial Fibrillation and Flutter. Since I’ve been experiencing bouts of atrial flutter recently, I’m attempting to rid caffeine from my diet to test this recommendation and hopefully feel better.
I know caffeine is in coffee, tea and cola drinks such as Coke and Pepsi. I just recently discovered that caffei...

Hi,

They say they need my heart rate at 60 not any higher for the test. Well I know how I feel with my heart that low.
I would like any information from anyone that has taken beta blockers for the test only and had to have ther pm turned down,
I will take any information f...

My husband had a pacemaker/defibrillator put in 3/22/07. He has not been able to get back his energy and says he just doesn't feel good. They said he had developed an infection and needed 4 weeks of cefritaxone injected after the surgery.
Can others who have had the same surgery tell us their condition post surgery. Have you recovered your energy and health since the susrgery.

Well, tomorrow I am off to see my EP but not for a pacer check. I am going in to see about getting off of my beta-blocker. I've been on Toprol XL 50mg daily for about 4 or 5 years now. My old cardio prescribed it for me when he didn't know what else to do for me but drug me for my condition. (For those of you familiar with my story or even not I'll just say that I was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope and severe bradycardia.) I can honestly say that I never noticed a helpful differenc...

Sorry! I have been doing research on the internet. I have no idea why my posting got all disjointed. NO, I am not experiencing all of those symptoms. HAHA!
My questions for anyone that can help:
Has anyone gone to the Mayo for arrhythmia issues and how was your experience?
When seeking an another opinion, what kind of questions did you ask that were very important to you?
Again, I apologize for the prior posting.

I still get muscle spasms/twitches (soft, and non-painful) in my heart, ever since PM implantation. They are intermittent, usually one at a time, and occasionally 6 or 7 in a row, about the rate of heart rate, but do not coincide when I immediately check my pulse rate on my wrist. 20 to 40 total a day average. Also have left eyelid twitching that I thought was not related, but naive as I am, could that be related to some of the electrical impulses from the PM and its leads?

Has anyone been told they have Vagally Mediated Atrial Fibrillation (VMAF)? While I don't fit the profile of a male, under 50, athletically fit.....I do have the symptoms fitting VMAF such as my a-fib occurs at rest (never during exercise or stress), lying on my left side (and sometimes on my back) generates a-fib, often a-fib occurs after eating a large evening meal, sometimes just bending over brings on an attack.
My PM was put in Nov 2007, and I am being treated for the more commo...

I am so glad I found this site. I am 25 yrs. old. I don't know if anyone is familiar with POTS? Postural Orthostatics Tachycardia Syndrome?? Well, I have it. It was diagnosed about 4-5 years ago. Basically my heart beats to fast and they don't know why. I have been on Metoprolol, Toprol XL, Lisinopril, Cardizem, Bisoprolol, Propanalol, and now I am on Nadolol and midodrine. My question is I guess two things: Has anyone had a PM put in for tachycardia? Or, has someone had a PM for POTS? Any info...

So, just a simple, hopefuly nonoffensive question. I have been off medications for...lets see since i was 8..now i'm almost 15...about 7 years. But i keep getting questions from new doctors and shocked responses when I say no. Anyone else not need to take meds? Just curious, I had to stop taking them when i was younger because they stunted my growth!! I was wondering because it seems like I'm the only one! But probably not.

After getting a PM for slow heart rate, today I was put on medication because my heart rate was too fast. I was told that this is common. The medication I am now taking is CardizemLA. Does anyone else have to take this or something similar for the same problem?

For those of you who have been on Toprol XL or are currently...HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCED ITCHING? At night my legs get extremely itchy and sometimes my arms, too. In the morning I get itchy as well. I've had this problem for a long time and just recently thought it could be caused by the Toprol (I was re-reading its side effects and itching is one). Unfortunately, I've been on the Toprol for years and have been itching regularly like this for years so I don't know if it all started about the...
