Lead Revision

So, I had my second pacemaker implant on January 7th of this year for my type two av heartblock and all has been well until now. I went to my second follow up appointment today and now my lower ventricle lead is out of place. Im only 17 and I had my first device implanted in 2009. When I went in for my surgery in January there was also an attempted lead extraction but it was not feasible. So now with the two capped leads and this lower ventricle lead out of place im just ready for all this to...

Capped off leads

Does anyone else have old leads that were capped off and left in place?

ive had a pacemaker since I was 12. So I now have capped off leads on my left side (pacer is now on my right side) that are 21 years old and have been giving me some concerns.

seems there’s not much research on how long leads are safe to stay inside your body...?

thanks!

Leads

Hi , I’m a newby and I have a question about the lead wires moving around above my device . They seem to move pretty often causing discomfort . Medtronic tech acted as if it was all normal but I’ve not seen any posts on this . Anyone else experiencing this ?

Lead wrapped around heart

Hi there. I had my ICD fitted in January 2019 to replace my old pacemaker after it was discovered that I’d had changing symptoms. What a nightmare it has been.  I was admitted back into hospital in March 2019 after having a heart rate over 190 on a couple of occasions, without my new ICD registering this.  One of the things that worried me during this recent was the news that since the surgeon had trouble attaching the leads during my initial implantation, due to...

Lead Displacement

Hi my mum recently had a pacemaker op in Jan , she went in for her 6week check up and the dr could'nt find a rhythm. So she had to stay in hospital to find out whats wrong . She had an xray done and it turns out that the lead has ended up in a vein in her stomach . My question is , is it normal for a lead displacement to end up in a vein in her stomach ? Its vital that she has the operation soon as at the end of the lead there is a sharp point and because she is on war...

additional leads vs extraction

The subject of adding an additional lead versus extraction of the current one before inserting the new one has come up from time to time. I know extraction is not to be taken lightly, especially if they have been in a patient for a long time  I know there must be enough room in the vein for an additional lead but does blood flow in the vein enter into the decision of adding versus extraction?  Just wondering as my original leads are going on 20 years old and chances of lead pro...

About pacemaker implantation

I have been implanted with DDDR pacemaker in Jan 2019. During inplantation one lead can not be fixed due to change in heart structure during heart operation which was done in 19th July 2018. Dr. said that actually i was requiring single lead pacemaker maker and where it requires is properly fixed.

Now my question is whether DDDR with single lead can work properly.

Please help. Lead interference when moving my left arm

Hi everybody.

I’ve got a dual lead Medtronic pacemaker. I’ve had it since 2014 and have had it moved under the pectoral muscle three times since...

anyway the other day I went into atrial fibrillation, or so they thought. They interrogated my pacemaker and they noticed whenever I moved my left arm - it caused “extra signals” or “extra impulses” aka interference. They think that this is what is causing my heart to beat in a funny rhyt...

Battery End Of Life (EOL)

Hi,

I recently went for a check up which I had requested as I had been feeling breathless and exhausted for afew weeks. I was told my pacemaker battery was showing EOL and had to be admitted as an emergency, and after a stressful 15 hour wait and ambulance transfer to another hospital with a cardi lab I was given a shiny new pacemaker. I have had it for a month now but still don't feel 100%. I am slightly breathless still and falling asleep on trains which I...

Leads

I had a pacemaker implanted two months ago.  It worked fine (set at 60-69) until this morning when my heart rate went to 102 and it has stayed there all day.  My cardiologist and the rep for the device saw me and they say that the atrial lead is dislodged or not working properly.  Since I have no symptoms and are quite active the choices are to go in and "revise" the lead or do nothing.  I'm not crazy about another hospital stay, but neither do I like se...

replace pacemaker

Hi,  Not sure if I want another pacemaker after my current one runs out.  I should have 6 years of life left on it and that will take me to 70.  I had a complete heartblock do to Sacrodosis which has gotten better yet left me with a lot of scarring.  I would like to see if I can finish my life without one, should I try to let it go in end of life mode and see how I do? Anyone out there made this decision?

CRT-P

Looks like I may have pacemaker induced cardiomyopathy. EP couldn't definitively tell me that's what is causing cardiomyopathy (40% EF) but I've been ventricle pacing at over 90% for a few years and I have a wide QRS (>150ms) so ventricles are definitely outta sync.  EP recommends a CRT-P and I'm set to have it placed in less than 2 weeks.  This will be my 3rd PM in 4 years:(

Any thoughts?  What kind of battery life would I get vs a standard dual lead P...

Battery life warnings

Hi all, I have a Biotonic Evia DR-T Pro-MRI pacemaker implanted 2013. I have been told that this model does not give off a warning alarm for low battery like a lot of other pacemakers do ie a beeping sound . Do I have to rely on the clinic to know when a change is needed ?

Any input would be appreciated.

Adding another lead

Edited to correct...

Hi all.

It looks like I am almost 5 years in and I will need another lead added.

Can anyone tell me what their experience was having one added to their existing installation.

Was it as invasive as the first? Recovery time? Etc.

Thanks in advance. Was hoping to not see this day for a long time. However, onward and upward

Leads

Hi  How far do the leads go in to the heart, and of course the leads are inserted via a vein which I would think ensures safety against dislodgement.

Icd

Does anyone else have the St.Jude ICD with the defective battery? It could go any time and be dead within 1-2 days. They said it is not necessary to change it out early, but makes me nervous about traveling and being far away! Thanks!

Backup to pacemaker battery life?

Since August 2018 I have had 2 check ups and both times was told I had 9 months left on the current pacemaker battery. In November they went as far as to tell me that I would be called in for a replacement either just before Christmas or in the New Year. Beginning of December I rang as I had not heard anything and was told another checkup was scheduled for end of January and "not to worry as the pacemaker has a guaranteed back up of 3 more months when the battery ends". I rang again...
