Are You Different Than Before?
Just wondering how many pacers feel that they are not the same person as they were before.
Trying not to be vague. It's a life changing situation. As you may have read, I lost my job due to my PM. In this past year, I have gone through moving across the country, a divorce, having to get a PM, and then losing my job. All these life changing events have really made me re-evaluate my life. I am trying to stay positive. I am having to take anti-depressants. The Dr. switched my anti-depre...
Driving Restrictions

Just a general question about driving restrictions when zapped by an ICD. Over here in the UK it's a six month restriction and your required to surrender your licence. Is this the same in other countries or do the restrictions vary? I'm told they do but I don't know the detail. I'm currently on a 6 month restriction and was wondering whether this was universal. I have to say I really feel OK to drive and it's frustrating when your not allowed to. Using public transport is a whole new experience!...

Can anyone offer me any advice. Since having an ICD fitted 2-3 years ago and taking Beta blockers twice a day - Sotalol 2x 80mg tablets, my sex drive has dropped. Is there a different medication that may help me? Is viagra an option, which increases the heartbeat and presumably works against beta blockers. I'm in my early fifties and feel a bit despondent about this. Is their anyone who can offer me some hope/optimism on the horizon. Any information anyone can share with me? That would be appre...

This is completely unrelated to PM's, but yesterday my husband and I went and saw Stevie Wonder in concert. I'm still excited that we had that opportunity. It was such a great concert. His daughter was there as one of his back up singers.
Man was it a great show. We had such a good time.

Could some one please explain to me about the shocking & pacing. I have had a Medtronic pacemaker that is set at low 60 and high 135. I really don't feel anything other then an occasional "twinge" or slight pain in the chest area if I am stressed or over do it. At one time while doing the backstroke in swimming, I did or rather think I did feel the pm move. Is that possible? How can you tell if you pm is pacing? Thanks for any info. aljdeer

I have heard that some pacemakers are sensitive to computers causing a rapid heartbeat. I have a Biotronic two lead pm that was put in in Feb. 2006. I dont know if it is power of suggestion or if it really does step up my heartrate and make it beat harder. Does anyone have any comments or experience with this? Love this website. Thanks! DD

Hi everyone
I had my second pm in 2005, my first one was in for 17 years and no problem at all, but my second one, well what can I say. I have not been too good since having this one, it is a Medronic, that is all i know about it. At the moment it is in my left shoulder but I am having sorness around the pacing box and a little swelling. Occassionally I get small like shocking waves going down my left arm. As anyone else experienced this.
Please advice if at all possible
Thank...

Size of leads??

I'm curious about the actual size of the leads/wires that run down through the vein and into the heart. I was looking at the display of PMs and leads outside the cath lab and those leads look very large in diameter, maybe 1/16" or even slightly larger. I remember seeing one post somewhere on the PMClub that referred to the leads as being about the size of a human hair. That's a lot of difference.
Does anyone know how large these things actually are?
Thanks.

when I swim, my left arm swells up and goes numb so I have to stop for 20 seconds at the end of each length until the swelling subsides (no blood return since they put the leads in a vein).
Does anyone else experience swelling. I don't have blood clot and this happened right off the bat six years ago when I had my pacemaker.
Is there a solution to this.

A 63 year old woman went to the emergency room, where she was seen by a young new doctor. After about 3 minutes in the examination room, the doctor told her she was pregnant. She burst out of the room and ran down the corridor screaming. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was; after listening to her story, he calmed her down and sat her in another room
Then the doctor marched down the hallway to the first doctor's room. "What is wrong with you?" he demanded. "Thi...
