Hi all, I have a St jude pacer for sss and Bradicardia plus it is supposed to help a bit with a fib. I have been a pacer for about 2 years. The last 6 months I have been on 25 mg Beterblocker as the a fib seemed to be getting worse, this has helped a lot but now I find it difficult to get my hr going. When I walk up stairs I feel terrible when I get to the top, and have to wait for my heart to speed up before I can continue, My pacer is set at 60 bpm, but even with running up 40 flights in 15 mi...

Exercise Shoulder/Arm Instructions

Hello,
I would like to know if anyone was given information to exercise their arm and/or shoulder when they were dismissed from getting the pacemaker?
I understand the doctor or at dismissal tells a person to excercise so you don't have a frozen shoulder. Is this true for most of you?
Thanks for any input.

Exercise

I have had my pm for over a year. I paid special attention to keeping it in a sling as they suggested for the six weeks. I was even told not to bother but I found myself wanting to lift my arm over my head especially in my sleep. I would stick to this for the 6 weeks but in the meantime throughout the day I would take the sling off and exercise it but not raise it above the shoulder. It paid off. I have had no problems. Good Luck DD

pacemaker moved

I had my pacemaker inserted in october of 2007. Recently I've noticed that it seems to have moved toward the outside of my chest and rotated upwards. Is it normal for this to happen? I haven't done anything recently to cause this to happen and there is no pain, only a little soreness where it moved to. I also have noticed that when i lay on my side it causes pain I was wondering if this was normal also. I would appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Margaret

Some new pain...

I had my implantation on Friday May 16th. Recovery has gone well. I returned to work last wednesday and have not had any problems, but I have been taking it easy. Yesterday I jumped right back in to normal work which means a lot of arm movements and some lifting. Last night I noticed alot of pain in my shoulder area. This morning I woke up with pain and the incision site stings almost like the stitches are being pulled apart on the inside. There is no blood or anything like that. I am wondering...

Problem or not???

Hi everyone,
My pacemaker was originally set between 70/110 bpm.
When I tried to regain some of my fitness level, I had difficulty going as fast/far as I wished to go.
At my checkup, last week, the doc changed the settings to 70/125 bpm.
**He said that it had NOT gone above 70bpm.

Now, when I try to push myself, my pulse seems to be at 70 max.!!

I feel okay but still cannot go as fast/far as I wish.

My Hubby is wondering if it could be a "def...

Returning to Work

Wondering if it is an insurance "thing" or what.

I am about to have my 4th pacemaker put in with leads removed at the same time. I was told I would need a couple days off work. I was totally shocked by this as my last PM was put in 6 years ago with one lead replaced and I was back to work 3 weeks later.

I just don't understand the big change in time over the years. Can a few of you reply letting me know how long your recovery was after having a new PM put in. One day, two...

Exercise and PM's

In December 2007 I had a catheter ablation to rid of some PVC's. I awoke to my doctor saying that there was a complication and that my AV node was ruined. Although the pacemaker is better than living life at 40 beats a minute, I am finding it extremely difficult to get back to my intense exercise. I am a cyclist, runner and do a number of cardio classes at the gym. My upper limit is set to the highest that it can be set for my PM. When I get near 130-140 bpm's I start having PVC's again. They so...

For BlueAustralia

Billie - I've tried twice to reply to your too kind private message. Much easier, and by far the most sensible way, for us to correspond would be to by-pass the inadequate facilities on this site. If you would like to write to my personal e-mail account, then I'll pass it onto you if you'll contact me further via private messages on this site. It's all simply too silly for words. I did so enjoy your message, though. Love, Wannabe

Continuing to breastfeed during/after implantation

I have had my pacemaker for almost 9 years and rarely give it a second thought. But in 2 weeks I'm getting my first replacement. I'm worried, because I'm still nursing my 8 1/2 month old, and have no intentions of stopping (especially since he's a tiny preemie who needs the best nutrition he can get to catch up).

I have a supply of milk pumped for the day of the surgery, and possibly some extra after that, but I'm very worried about how we'll get through this without affecting my mil...

I just want to thank everyone who replied about my concerns with taking Prozac. It was very reasurring to know that other do take it and have had no further problems with iregular heart beats.

I will continue to take it and get on with my life knowing that my heart and mind are both being taken care of.

In the meantime I am still waiting for our genetic testing results which is a worry but as I can change that I will change myself and be more positve.

lifting arm part two!

Hello everyone, today i went to see Jenny who looks after me at the hospital and tweaks my pm. asked about lifting my arm and she told me to go ahead! she even made me do it there and then. she checked me on the machine just to put my mind at ease that nothing was happening to my wires while i was raising my arm up. It was quite tight and stiff but i am now confident enough to start doing it and i know it wont be long before it will be as strong as my right arm. Just thought id update you.

ICD/PM recovery

Hello,

I first became a member of this site 4 years ago after my ICD/PM implant. I was in a state of shock and terribly frightened and lonely trying to come to terms with what had happened to me.

I have been reading many messages from people who have only recently had inplants and are understandably still coming to terms with the change to their lives.

I just wanted to say that things really do get better and eventually the implant does become just a part of y...
