Breastfeeding with a pacemaker

Hi
I am a 33 year old mother of two beautiful girls aged 2 years old and 6 months old and had my first pacemaker implanted in November 2007 - 3 months after the birth of my second daughter. I was diagnosed with complete heart block at 17 weeks into my second pregnancy.

I have breasfed my baby from birth, and despite assurances from my Cardiologist, I am still so nervous that the pacemaker will somehow damage my daughter since she is in such frequent contact with my chest and obv...

pacemaker syndrome

Hey everybody,
I have a question then a site to give you. Friday while I was talking on the phone I felt a tiny little pop in my chest midline just below the sternum followed by a searing burning pain that started out the size of a small pin prick to about the size of a half dollar. Before I could even say the words out loud "wow that was stange" I felt just like I did when my hr was 280 and blacked out to the same way it felt when they turned off my pm (to check me ) and my hr fell to 30....

How restricted should I stay?

3 months post PM. Im 28 and a former college athlete. Specifically, I played Softball for UNLV. According to to my St. Jude device brochure I cant play softball or ride horses. Does anyone do this regularly? These are two of my favorite past times. Also, I am getting back to exercise. Ive lost 20lbs from my pre PM weight 180, but I was told by my EP and Cardiologist not to do sit ups or push ups. Im not so worried about the no push ups but I really need to do something about my tummy. Im 3 month...

Smitty! Welcome back!!!!

Hey, Smitty glad to have you back. I see you posted a answer today. This is your forte. This is one of the reasons your still with us. Bcause you and the big guy knows we need people like you to help the less informed to be more informed. I am very glad you decided to stay. The little episode that happened was just a learning process. We learn something everyday no matter how old we are. I saw you were on the other pacer site and I was going over there to read what you have to say. But I really...

ENGLAND PACING CHECK

If you live in England do you find that your pacing check, which in the UK should be every six months is now no longer every six months, but when they have time to do it. I used to get my next appointment written on my appointment card at the end of each check. This has been stopped and you leave without knowing when your your next check will be. Six months will go by and still no appointment anymore. Is this happening to you? If not I would still like to know if you are still having regular che...

Incision

My PM was installed Feb 27th/08. I am 60 yrs old. I suppose like all of us dealing with this has not been easy. I am faced with coming to "grips " with the aging process and what is worse my mortality. My problem today is this. I have burning and discharge at the site. The discharge seems to be coming from an area blistering just above incision line. Needless to say I am very concerned about infection. I went to an ER last night and the ER MD was just as puzzled as I am about this. Has anyone el...

Newbie - Getting PM next Tuesday

3 weeks ago I came into the hospital because I could barely stay conscious, my heart sometimes not beating for as long as 8 seconds. It turned out that I also had some terrible pneumonia which I was not even aware of. I have been on heart monitoring this whole time. Sooooo, 3 weeks later the pneumonia is nearly gone and I am scheduled for the PM on next Tuesday.

I have had atrial fibulation for a while and will still have to take meds for that. I hope this all works out ok as I re...

Hello!

I am still new to having a pacemaker, it's my first one and its been less than a year. Still trying to get over the self consious part. Does anyone else feel when it hits? Its like having a pro boxer thump you in the chest! Does it ever go away?

I read in a chat that someone was asking about still being a firefighter. Please don't give up on your dreams, if it makes you happy that is what you should do regardless of that electronics in you! I am going to college for Criminal Justice,...

FEELING BETTER ABOUT FEELING OUT OF SORTS

Hi,
First,I would like to thank everyone who replied to my message this morning.I think it helps so much to hear it from those who know what you are feeling. As wonderful as the doctors, nurses ,and technichians have been, its never the same as having a fellow patient assure you.Nobody knows what your body and your mind is telling you unless they have lived through it.I am a 59 yr old male who has had some medical problems in the past but I have remained active(golf, bowling)Recently, however I...

A new catagory

Just a suggestion for a possible new catagory of postings for this site - "Reference Library". A couple of weeks back someone posted a Q&A session between a cardiologist and some students about Pacemakers. I also remember seeing another post of someone's surgeon's report of the procedure of implanting a PM. These things would invaluable to someone who's just gotten a PM (or will soon be getting one).

Hi Its me moaning minnie.

Still feeling tired. When does this get better am now in my eight week and thought I would have more energy.

Went home to england for a holiday and visited an English cardiologist to try and understand the ins and outs of pacemakers. He wants to see the test results from France to see if I really need the pacemaker. he feels that if it is only the slow beat at night then he would not have installed one! Which one do you believe French or E...

How should it look?

Hi

I am always asking questions! Getting on for five weeks after my dual chamber pacemaker was put it. The area is still a bit swollen but the bruising which was very bad has almost gone. I am concerned about the site - it is very raised and I can feel the hardness of the pacemaker protruding on one side much more than the other. This is visible as well.

The scar is raised and hard like a bone on top of the raised site of the pacemaker - it just doesn't feel right. Hav...

Anxiety

I am nine months post-op and still dealing with anxiety, not feeling well at times, etc. I now developed a new phobia and that is going to the cardiologist for follow-up for the PM I am seeing a counselor on a regular basis to try and help me get past this phobia which also includes taking some meds. Has anyone else gone through this?

Fingers Crossed!

I posted a few times about how I had my pacemaker removed following an infection last november. Well yesterday I got a new one implanted! I was on a waiting list but I rang the hospital and they gave me a cancellation so I got it done yesterday.
It went well and so far I feel really well. The new pacemaker is on my right hand side so I have a new scar, the old one was on the left. It's a St Jude Microny so it's tiny. I'm feeling much better already as I had been very tired due to the bradyc...

still very young

First i need to thank you all for existing; ever since my heart block (15 sec. in arrest) and emergency PM on Friday, 29th I've been recovering at home and your messages here have been a Gpdsend of informatin and support.
I've never had any heart problems so I am very new at this and puzzled by my new life as a bionic woman.
Physically I am pretty well (though still weak) but emotionally I am a wreck. When will I feel normal again?
It's been almost a week and I am still tired an...

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
