Hello to everyone,
My name is Sue R. and I have had my pacemaker for about 5 years or so now. I had a very slow heartbeat and when I was sleeping my heartbeat would slow down even more, (as you all know anyways) but so slow I would stop breathing.(I also have sleep apnea so have machine for that at night) I was always tired and didn't want to do anything. Everything just made me tired. I am happy with my pacemaker because it won't let it go below 60 and I have more energy to keep up with m...

Replacement

I have now had my pacemaker for eight years and the sad thing is that my doctor, Dr. Baja, was killed in an airplane accident this past summer.

What is the longest time anyone has had a pacemaker? I am worried about having mine replaced and also how bad is the procedure. I hope those telephone test are accurate and are able to detect in time if it needs to be replaced.

What a great week I have had

Hi Pals

Yes, I have had a great week with you all. I am gradually getting used to the different times zones and knowing when to catch who on chat. I bought a map this week to mark out where everyone is. It kinda brings you all closer. I am wondering if there is going to be that reunion that was talked about. Does anyone know? Brian and I are thinking of coming over from Australia so it would be good to know well in advance for long distance members. We want to work in some trip...

About the Good ol' days

Okay, my PM is electronic and doesn't rely on gas (well, except for when I go for my check-ups)

Jessie's post about the good ol' days got me thinking...

When it comes to paying rediculous prices for gas - I am amazed at how "accepting" the masses are.
I have seen a few times when it is posted all over the internet to "stop buying gas from just one company for one day"
But we don't bother.
It's easier to "do nothing" and "complain."

(Not saying all...

hi live in a small town in s.w. ontario near the water. i once lived in toronto and i experienced a big city. to-day i went to the corner butcher and bought some meat . somehow he always takes care to wrap each serving carefully. i feel good giving him the business versus a big chain. we are now going to be hit with very expensive food and gas. why??? we make the gas here for god's sake.my son lives and works in the middle east. he pays 29 cents a gallon. why do we pay this senseless price while...

Follow Up...

Wow what a road I have been down over the past month. I appreciate the advice I have received here. Today I had a Tilt Table Test. I was passed out cold in less than 8 minutes. It would have been sooner if I wouldn't have convinced the man giving the test to unstrap my legs to allow me to bend them. They have diagnosed me with Neurocardiogenic Syncope and I show the signs of Heart Block but he feels these will go away if we treat the syncope. The 2 treatment options at this point are Proamatine...

On seeing the gallery

Please forgive my ignorance. I just logged on yesterday for the first time in a long time after the e-mail about the pulse, and I went into the gallery, looked at the pictures and cried. I have been looking at you and reading post all day long. You people are all so young, vibrant, and well so normal looking. I expected more of you to, well, be older, sickly looking. I always thought that the need for the PM was for the older generation. I hope I did not offend anyone. Let me vent if you...

Rate Response

Hi All,
I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and was very interested in the postings about Rate Response.
I have had a pacer for a very long time now and the rate response has always been turned on. Yesterday I went for my clinic appointment and mentioned I had been reading about it. Well, guess what? I haven't needed it turned on all this time, so off it went. So far so good! I am hoping that it will now help with the shortness of breath and arrythmias I get wh...

more "cable" than before......

I am 9 months post biventricular ICD implant. - Today I did a great deal of strenuous work - (I'm moving.....) tonight I noticed it feels as though there is more "cable" around the unit than before - as if I pulled it from somewhere (under the device?) by lifting and hauling so much. The area is tender (it always is when I push myself hard) - since mine doesn't regulate my pulse I can't tell if it's otherwise doing it's thing - (keeping things in synch - ) or not. Has any one else ever ex...

changing the pace

hi everyone

i just wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem as i have. I went to the doctor recently. I actually met the doctor who created/invented the software for our pacemakers. He changed the rate to go faster when I do extra activity. When i greek dance or go up the stairs or anything that requiries heavy activity I tend to get shortness of breath to the point i couldn't breathe, i felt my heart was going to burst, it really hurt and i felt my heart out of sync. I haven...

Warfarin for atrial fibrillation

I know this is a question I need to ask my doctor, but until I get a chance to ask, does anyone know how long people generally stay on warfarin (Coumadin) for afib? I had one episode of afib in December. As far as we know that was the first and only episode we are aware of. (My pacemaker event recorder has not recorded any since that one.) How long would I need to go without another episode before they might consider discontinuing warfarin?

Just a little helpful info I hope

I do quite a bit of studying on the chemical workings and nutritional needs of the heart and body and just thought this info might be helpful to some. This is taken from a book titled "Reverse Heart Desease Now" written by a "new cardiologist" named Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra:
"Every cardiologist should be interested in the following benefits of fish oil:

Decreases Lp(a), triglycerides, and blood pressure

Increases HDL

Reduces arterial wall inflammation
