MRI -

Has anyone experienced trouble when having the pacemaker put into safe mode before an MRI?
Yesterday I experienced a type of electric shock, or similar. Halfway through the technician doing what he does. It lasted about one or two seconds and was horrid. The technician said All done now, I felt as though I'd been tasered. And I really didn't recover for about 12 hours.
I hope I never need another one.

body temperature

Recently, during a late-in-life realization, I recalled that the temperature of one's body is directly related to one's heart rate. Just last Friday I experienced hey fever, but took my temperature a few times over a few days to be sure (took a Covid-19 test too, negative). My body temperature was in the normal range.

So, this begs the question, can pacemaker patients still have an increased body temperature from a flu/cold/covid? And, if so, how does the pacemaker adjust or not...

Cardiologist just recommended I get a pacemaker

Hi!

I went to the emergency room back in April for heart palitations and slow heartbeat. I have worn a heart monitor for 30 days.

The cardiologist telephoned me today and said that he recommends that I get a pacemaker.

My question is how slow is too slow? My heart has always been slow but I do think it has slowed down the last 5-10 years. I am 58.

I have never fainted and my blood oxygen is always fine. I struggle with fatigue though. I actually had massive t...

Biotronik CLS advice

Hi am new to this group.  Diagnosed with Chronotropic Incompetence being driven by my cancer treatment meds.  In bradycardia - 38 bpm at rest.  Recent treadmil test confirmed the CI with max of 90 bpm.  No AV block.  Getting the Biotronik CLS pacemaker (not sure of the model) since I have been told it will help me be less tired and respond the best during walking, gardening and cycling which are my main activities.  I have read a lot of great posts and have deter...

Immune system...

QQ : Was seeing my nurse last night for that feminine test we all love - and she spotted on my notes re: pacemaker and she said "Oh, you'll need a pneumonia vaccine now" ... and I'm here "but I'm not old :D " ... and she said "Your immune system is compromised now, so you'll need this. It won't stop you getting pneumonia, but will lessen the chances of you being hospitalized"  ....

.... really?

I did...

Not sure what this means?

Hello all I hope you are okay,

I just was sorting through my filing and I came across a hospital letter from november, it stated that’s my echo at GOSH showed ‘significant aortic dilatation’,

but then I have been told by JR ( my current hospital) that my heart is structurally and functionally good, and there is nothing structurally wrong with it. I’m not sure if that makes any sense?

I have read that aortic dil...

Pacemaker Memory Storage Question

Hi! This is probably a weird question but--Does anyone know if the newer pacemakers (I have a Medtronic Azure placed in 2022) have any data storage of their own or is it just enough storage to hold small bits of info until the app sends its next transmission? It seems like the Medtronic app sends info constantly throughout the day, which is great. However, I accidentally had the app off for several days without realizing it which made me curious if all the info that would have been collected...

Pacemaker with Medications

Hello all, I have Atrial Fibrillation (SSS), I have always been fit and used to have a resting pulse rate of 58 and BP of 120/80. One day I collapsed and was found to have AF.

My first cardiologist prescribed a beta blocker which lowered my blood pressure to 90/60 and my pulse rate to 45 but did nothing to stop the AF.

I found a new cardiologist who stopped the beta blocker and prescribed amiodarone which has worked very well, it gave me my life back, no AF, no side effects, I cou...

Patient/Doctor Relationship

I have been fortunate to have met some really caring doctors since starting my pacemaker journey, but I know it hasn’t been the same for all of us.  Some have really struggled to be seen, to be heard and to get answers, so my question is what makes a good doctor and what makes a good patient and how can we get the most out of our appointments that often have severe time constraints placed on them that can significantly compromise our quality of care?

What are you...

Drinking enough water?

I read somewhere reminding that we need to drink more water after the pacemaker, after our baseline heart rate increases. Because since the blood flow is better simply because of the faster heartbeat, our bodies may not have the same thirst. Is there something to that? Help me out!

PMs in the cold.

So, I'm 9 weeks out - and now I'm a lot more comfortable with being out and about - I took the kids and I to a beach for some fossil hunting.
I'm in ON, Canada - so it wasn't a warm daytrip by any stretch, and I got cold and damp, and then that really cold damp that seems to seep into your bones (we had a lot of fun though and spotted lots of fossils :D ), and although my head and appendages were warm - I didn't have a scarf or such over my chest area - and...

Drummer with no excuse...

Good evening from the 'land down under'!

I'm a recent recipient of a Medtronic ICD (nicknamed 'The Flux Capacitor'), installed Feb this year. The circumstances around it's installation were sudden and immediate having had no cardiac issues in my previous 49 years but to suddenly suffer blackouts and two cardiac arrests a week apart from each other, there was no over choice but to walk out of CCU with a device. The best part about it was the fact that I could...

Don't try this at home

In the interest of science, I dug out an old metal and voltage detector (Bosch DMO 10E) used to find buried cables etc.

Having recently advised not to put anything involving EMR close to the PM, I couldn't resist seeing what the detector made of of my metalwork.

The DMO 10E sat on top of the PM and lit up like a Christmas tree. 8 out of 8 bars for metal plus a message "do not drill here".

It also quite nicely picked up the leads for maybe 20 centimetres. And no...

Medtronic A2DR01 3 lead

Good afternoon to all, I just jointed the club. This is my first post.

I have a 3 lead pacemaker, only 2 leads are connected as per the doctor who installed my pacemaker. The doctor stated at the time of install 2018 the 3rd lead is there in case in the future you need it.

I am trying to get a MRI, my local hospital head MRI technician stated they can not do an MRI due to the open 3 rd wire, it could possibly cause burning from the MRI.
Has anyone had this issue?

Broadening of QRS complexes

It has been mentioned to me by a cardiac physiologist that people with pacemakers will have broader QRS complexes on ECG. Does anyone know why?

Pacemaker & Meds after TAVR

When I had my pacemaker put in and prior to, I was put on Eliquis, and they said it was to thin my blood to help with the flow of blood due to the size of my aorta. Three days prior to TAVR I was asked to stop Eliquis. Upon discharge the TAVR Dr. changed me from Eliquis to generic Plavix (clopidogret). Has anyone else had a change after TAVR? My TAVR Dr. said the Eliquis was for A-Fib. I have A-Fib so I am trying to find out between the Pacemaker Dr. and the TAVR Doctor just what should I be...

Pacemaker implantation under muscle

Hello.
I'm looking at having my pacekmaker(which is my second and was put in last August)reimplanted under the muscle. The one I have now has been poorly fitted, very bulky, very wirey and it appears as though scar tissue has adhesions and rubs on the wires. I'd like to hear from people who have theirs under muscle......recovery time, complications etc.Thank you.

Lots 2

Greetings!

Update: Visited EP this week and remain pacing less than 1%.  He also provided extraction contacts. Yay, though he was cautionary that they most likely wouldn't remove it. I have an appointment in Aug with one and am pending follow up with the others. Unlike he prior clinic, he'll cooperate with the extraction clinic.  So good news.  Ugh: the pacer app now displays the average years of battery life.  It's a bit disconcerting

I'm at a rock solid 50 bpm at rest, with my natural rate response from AV node still good to about 140 during exercise. Dual chamber Medtronic MRI conditional PM. DDI is my setting. I am still in 100% persistant AF but complete heart block keeps all those extra little signals away from my ventricles. Taking Eliquis twice daily. Feeling fine but went back to e...
