new to all this!!

Hello. Name is Heather I am 23. I just got my pace maker on Thursday. Are there any other swimmers out there, or outdoor enthusiast? can you tell me what acclimating was like for you? Will I really get back to complete and total normal? I am so paranoid about ripping out my leads. Can I get some reassurance! Pretty please! with sugar on top!

Heart racing

I had pacemaker implanted in march 12 because I was passing out from low heart rate. Have followed Dr orders since. No problems until today. I have been back exercising steady (running or walking up to 2 miles 5 days a week or 30 min on elliptical) for about 1 month. Yesterday did 40 min on elliptical and ran 1/4 mile. Today same thing. However, was tired and felt a little dizzy about 1/2 way through. Kept going. Got home and my heart has felt like it is racing for the last few hours. Not sure w...

Endurance riding (horses)

Hi,
I had a PM implanted 5 weeks ago. I have been riding since age 4. I am 45 now. I also have lupus and fibromyalgia. My cardiologist told me to refrain from riding for 4 weeks, but I am giving it the extra 7-10 days because I know I heal a bit slower due to the Lupus. I have discomfort along the outer edge of the PM, with what feels to be knotted scar tissue on top of the pectoral muscle. The incision site looks good. I have less mobility in my left shoulder, and feel a tightness around...

Born to Run

Hi there to all Runners !!

A 'must read' is Born to Run by Christopher McDougall

Chapter 25 is compelling stuff but, the whole book is made up of stories that sound made up, but are true.

Caballo Blanco, Jenn and Billy are all there on You Tube.

This book answers so many questions about running, people and injuries

Wetsuits and backpacks

Hello
I like to ocean swim in a wetsuit and to walk with a backpack. My surgeon seemed unsure about what precautions I could take to protect the skin around the implant site. His major concern was that the pack straps or a tight fitting wetsuit could compromise the skin over the PM and possibly lead to an infection of the implant site. I suggested that somehow the wetsuit or the packstrap be elevated so as not to put pressure on the implant site. He thought that some soft protective mat...

Hot Tubs, Kayaking and Tubing

Hi everyone,
Just joined the club today. I got my PM in March 2012.
Can I go in Hot Tub when I want? I work out a lot on the treadmill and do some stationary biking. I also hike and kayak.
My doctor is great but very careful with me. I want to go shooting and he wants me to wait.
I have started to get pressure on my PM is that common? I work with a weed whacker with a lithim battery attached. Is there a problem with that.
Any insight would be great.

Ride the Rockies!!!!

Okay... new high cycling mileage week for this year (Sun - Sat) of 220. Now next week will be light, no riding Friday at all, and just a small spin on Saturday if I can work it in after rebuilding my bike in Gunnison. The the following week... 450+ miles. Should be fun!!!!!!! Really got to wonder how many other folks with pacemakers are doing Ride The Rockies this year!!!!????? Maybe if I found them we could set up a battery powered paceline!!!!!!! Or better yet, a paceline for pacers!!!!!!

Boston Scientific Altrua & track running

I've recently upgraded from a PM that would not support HRs high enough to let me get back to my competitive running - from 200m on the track to marathons on the road. I haven't started trying to train yet, as the implant was May22. But I'm interested to contact any athletes who have this model implanted

palpitations again!!

Hi all, can anyone help me?  I am 7 wks post op from my PM (right side) and punctured lung. (bradycardia, no medication, aged 56 yrs).

I have been walking 30 mins up to 2 hrs a day to get fit again over the last 3 wks.  Most days I don’t have a problem, however, today I seem to have had a lot of palpitations and feeling breathless when moving around.  I also had to turn back after 10 mins of walking as I was constantly feeling palpitatio...

exercise machines

I am starting to "think" about getting back to the gym. What do you think about using the rowing machine & the back strenghthening machine ( the one that you lean back on & do sit ups)?

When can you lift PM arm over head?

Hate to sound so stupid, but basically I am.

golf

Thanks for the messages. My cardo Dr said golfing was fine after 3 months. It was my surgeon who had reservations. So I will resume golfing after the healing time is up. Thanks for all the comments.

Exercise, BIV-ICD and Lasix

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the group.
History:
49 years old and two 12 year old boys (twins) I need to keep up with.
Medtronics BIV-ICD implanted 02/09/12 and 100% paced.
Diagnosed with CHF 10/19/12 with 15% EF
01/19/12 -- EF improved to 20% with medication but BIV-ICD was recommended.
I was very active, surfing, hiking, jui-jitsu and cycling. until I started getting tired very easily.

I started exercising the 1st weekend I got home from my implan...

Test for Chronotropic Incompetence with a Pacer

I've had a slew of 'unrelated' problems develop or developing since getting a Medtronics Kappa 700 pacer installed 6 years ago.

Also, since I was young (I'm 51 now), I've felt behind the curve when exercising and would often end up dizzy after running. A number of times I felt like I would pass out. I made it through Marine bootcamp and even though I was relatively fit when I went in, I barely passed the fitness test coming out.

Since my implant, my ability to exercise has...

how do you start with the fear factor

I was wondering what is an appropriate amount and type of excersize following surgery. I have been trying to walk for 30 minutes in the early AM but It feels so strained at points that I keep thinking "if I colapse in this or that spot someone will find me" stupid I know but I want to enjoy myself not be micro focused on every little pinch and ache. Any thoughts on how to get past this part? I'm also pretty tired all the time, is that normal?

Golf, pushups, barbells...

I''ve had my PM one year. Just to play it safe, I've waited this long to get back to playing golf. I was told that it's okay to play golf. However, what do you think about lifting barbells or doing push-ups? I'd like to start a "Body Pump" class again and it can be quite strenuous. Any thoughts on this?

golf

This is to thank all of you that responded to my previous message. The Dr. that said limit my golf or had reservations was the surgeon. I went to my cardiologist today and he said after two months resume anything you want including golf. Really no limitaions. So it was a relief to know things will get back to normal. Again thanks for the response.
