Anyone ever go swimming with their pacemaker? I have been invited to go swimming this summer. I never been swimming since my pacemaker implant and back sugery. They say swimming is good for you. It's been a very very long since I went swimming. It will also depend on my energy level.

I have problems with exercising (I have a recent post entitled "Chronotropic Incompetence"). I am asking for some advice on how to go about choosing a doctor to implant a PM. I started with an interventional cardio. who was very open minded in sending me to an EP. It took a couple of years to reach the diagnosis that a PM is what I need. Should I use an EP or the interventional cardio? Should I base my decision also on the device manufacturer used? To complicate things I just read an article fro...

Good news. Just returned from my doctor's office after my first visit since the PM was put in on May 10, 2007. After testing the device he told me I could play golf in two weeks as long as I didn't try to act like Tiger Woods! Going to give it a go after six weeks for nine holes.

Hi,
I got my pacemaker implant last year and I'm curious to know if there are other people out there with an implant that run marathons and compete in Ironmans.
It would be interesting to compare training notes...

I would consider myself a good distance runner but, this last year or so I've been having trouble breathing while I was running. I went from running 5min 30sec a mile to barely breaking 7min 30sec a mile. There were a few other symptoms, such as lightheadedness, syncope, bradycardia, etc.., that lead to me seeing my Doctor and the diagnosis that I need a pacemaker. I am 24 year old male, and I am pretty nervous how I will feel after the operation.
I've read a lot on this forum and the...

Hi Everyone,
This Thursday will be the last day of week 6 for me, that means I have my PM for 6 weeks now, well almost 6 weeks!
So my question is, can I start golfing? I am not taking any medication or other health issue, all I am worry about is repositioning the PM lead. Mine is VDD single.
Please advise.

Had my pace maker fitted in June 2006. Loads of problems for the first 6 months, couldn't run more than a few meters without my heart rate dropping down to below 90bpm.
My cardioligist is brilliant and after lots of trial and error got me running. I finished this years London Marathon in 3hrs 38 mins.
Still having problems with heart rate dropping though if I try to run fast or up hills. My cardiologist is seeking advice but cannot find a solution.
Although I am...

I had got my PM Apr 30, 2007. I want to know how soon anyone started running 5k or more in distance? How much improvement should I expect. I am excited about the prospect of how fast I will be running.

I "make" my son (12) wear a chest protector (heart guard) when he plays baseball (hardball). Do you know if it is actually necessary? He did get hit last year and we all heard the clunk so were pleased he was wearing it. It is uncomfortable and doesn't stay in place. He is a trooper. Any suggestions?

7 months post op here with a dual chamber St. Judes PM for a 3rd degree heart block. Had it installed just before October and when I posted then, it was the end of the golfing season here in snowy western PA. It was a long winter and oh did I have cabin fever. Today was about 70 degrees and sunny so it was finally time to test the golf swing... I have read many posts about golfing with a PM in and really had no concerns about it, especailly after 7 months of healing. I did however call my c...

Just so everyone knows, you can maintain an active life with a PM. I just completed my first ever 2007 Boston Marathon in 5 hrs with no issues or complications. I also trained with the Polar F2 heart rate monitor without issue. What a feeling crossing that finish line !

I've had some troubles with my PM and running (see Breakdown at 130 posting) and have recently bought a Polar F6 heart rate monitor to keep an eye on my heart rate during running, biking, etc. I talked to Medtronic and they didn't think it (heart rate monitor) would interfere with my PM. Polar (manufacturer of the HR monitor) didn't know. Does anyone with a Pacemaker have any experience using a training type heart rate monitor. Thanks.

I'm a backpacker and was wondering how to protect my PM from a heavy backpack strap. Are there any devices available commercially to 'attach' to a backpack strap that will protect my PM. Thanks for any ideas.

I'm hoping to find someone here with similar experience/situation who received a PM and had his/her problems solved. I've read thro' several posts here but nothing fits exactly. I'm primarily looking for advice on whether a PM will help me.
My problem, after 4 years of testing and some missteps by docs along the way appears to be that my heart rate does not go up with exercise as it should. I get dizzy, never have passed out, if I start exerting at some point. It's getting worse. 4 ye...
