about to get a pacemaker

Hello

Well I have just joined your club, it is very informative, and I need some assurance and/or guidance, 56 years old, weigh 150, run 5 miles 8.3 pace daily and lift weights 3-4 x weekly.  Suddenly two weeks ago, just could not run, thought it was a one off, but since then I cannot even jog, where in 2 minutes or less cannot catch my breath, I can walk at 4.4 on treadmill for 6 miles and lift and not even a bit tired, so Dr diagnosed me with second degree heart blo...

Why am I so tired!

Had a pacemaker installed 6 days ago and I was wondering if it's normal to be to tired. My heart is beating with a nice rhythm but it seems to pound in my chest when I exert myself even just a little. As far as I can tell I did not dislodge any wires (how can I tell anyway). I realized that I have been sleeping with my arm over my head during the night. Could that have caused a problem?

Too many questions...

Don't let a pacemaker slow you down

I’m 46 and soon turning 47. I’m in overall poor to average shape. I have had a heart condition all of my life so I have never been an athlete. My heart condition is subaortic stenosis, or also called a leaky valve. In 1976 I had my first open heart at the age of 10. In 1996 I had my second open heart at the age of 30. In 2002 I received a pacemaker. In 2011 I was told I need another open heart in the near future.I’ve allowed my physical condition to slide and can’t even run a mile. In 2003 I ran...

House Mountain

8 weeks out. Climbed House Mountain today.
Pretty short and pretty easy, except a teenager with a little
Weight issue was complaining to her parents that it was hard and she felt old.
Near Knoxville.
LeConte next. About 4,000 feet higher and a couple hours more of hiking.
They have cabins on top and feed you.
No electricity, but llamas bring up supplies twice a week, and even flowing potable water, wine, food, and a top ten view in the US as you watch the suns...

exercise with PM and afib

I have been a body builder since I was 18yrs. old and was diagnosed in 2003 with afib. Took wafarin everyday up until I was diagnosed with SSS in 2010. Had PM implanted in May of that Year, resumed under Drs. permission that I could do what ever physical activity that I wished but no boxing. I am 57 now and am taking the best care of myself, eating right, no alcohol or caffeine, and work out every other day. 8 sets of 100 pushups, 8 sets of 100 situps, 6 sets of 40 to 60 curls with 50lbs, and 6...

rtamrv-sick sinus syndrom

I had a pm with two leads in
Dec. 2011. I feel great when I am doing light housework or cooking. When I take a walk or use the treadmill I am short of breath all the time doing it. Am wondering if I expect too much or just that out of shape. I am 80 yrs old and just slowing down. I know I will have to check with Dr but just wondered if any one else had this problem. I love to do yard work and that really takes more energy than I can muster up.

Personal Heart Rate Monitor

I have a pacemaker/ICD and plan to start to exercise in earnest when allowed. Are they any personal heart rate monitors out there on the market that can accurately monitor your heart rate (and BP) without interference from the pacemaker/ICD? I have Medtronics equipment. Thanks!

It has been a while since I have been around because I am working on getting myself back in shape. I didn't get in Ride the Rockies but have signed up to do the MS Charity Ride (if you are interested in sponsoring a fellow pacer you can check it out here: http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/COCBikeEvents?px=10605191&pg=personal&fr_id=17994). Along with this ride I am also once again doing the Triple Bypass (120 miles over 10K of climbing) and hope to do some other century rides.<...

Weight Loss

Hey There Everyone - It's been a while since I've posted, and I hope everyone is doing well! I have a question for those who have had their pacemakers longer than me. I really want to start a new weight loss program called Plexus Slim that so many of my friends are doing, but it has a weight loss accelerator that is key to the weight loss success. The website says it's the equivalent of coffee; however, I'm also very cautious about trying anything of this nature with my pacemaker. Any advice...

Pull ups, push ups and protein powder

Hi all :)

I've had my pacemaker since 2010 now. At the time I used to exercise and workout constantly. Haven't been working out since.

These days, i'm really putting my mind into dieting and exercising/workouts...so i wanted to ask for advice:
- Are there any recommendations against:
1. Pull ups
2. Push ups
3. and whey protein powder ?

Thanks a lot !

Advice

Had PM implant one week ago , all seems to be going ok, wound healing nicely and off painkillers. Still some soreness/stiffness though conscious of avoiding too much movement and stretching to the affected side. Been for a few steady walks on flattish ground without any problem. As a very keen cyclist I was thinking I may get on my static bike soon for some really steady exercise. Has anyone any ideas or advice ??. All the general written advice I've seen suggest exercise after 3/4 weeks.I feel...

Elliptical Trainer

I'm 61 years old and recently purchased an elliptical trainer and can barely do 4.5 minutes without getting extremely red-faced and extremely warm. The Medtronic tech adjusted my upper heart rate to 140 as it was only at 130. Has anyone else had problems with an elliptical? I know that it is a much harder work out than what I'm used to but I feel ridiculous to not be able to stay on it for more than 4.5 mnutes.

Athlete Heart Syndrome - Pacemaker Limitations??

I am as 72 year old accomplished USCF Mastersd cyclists with many medals. In my 50's I trained 350 MPW - now down to 200+. I developed all the symptoms of "Athlete Heart Syndrome". Rest heart:32, sinus pauses 2-3 secs., one at 5.8, syncope, AF. Cardiologist recommended pacemaker. Set at low trigger of 45. Since its installation I get the sensation of muscular myopathy and don't seem to be able to perform at my expected level. I used HRMs for years for HR based training and the Conconi test to de...

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
