Flecainide

Has anyone out there been on Flecainide and stopped it? I do have irregularities, and very occasionally very short a-fib episodes, and don't really think the Flecainide has changed anything, but doc recommends I stay on it. I just don't like what I read about it. I take 50 mg. twice a day. PM seems to be working well, is actually working less and my heart working more on its own now. . . yay!

Trying to come to terms with it

Hi
Had my first pacemaker fitted on 4th February. Had palpitations for a while and my GP carried out a 24hour ECG a few weeks ago. It was found that I had a secondary heart block (heart missing beats and beating much too slowly), so I was referred to a cardiologist and a dual chamber pacemaker was fitted three days later!

I am very sore and swollen above my left breast - this could be because they had to fit the pacemaker twice as after they had finished they found the 'wires w...

Panic attacks

Here I am again . . . ONE more question. Is anyone experiencing panic attacks after PM implantation? I think maybe some of my night-time awakenings with heart pounding and shaking may in fact be panic or anxiety attacks. Have read that's possible. (I sometimes learn more here than from my doc! Thank you all for your previous responses!) Thanks in advance for any replies!

Nicholas

This is an old posting about my son, Nicholas. This month is his birthday ( Feb. 20 ). Happy Birthday to my wonderful son. Daddy loves you from the bottom of my two wires in my heart.

In the first year of having my pacemaker implanted, I was suffering emotionally and physically. I was not use to my heart racing at night. I was having panic attack and thinking my heart was going to stop. Other times, I would think it was going to explode because of the rapid heart beat. One night, I w...

Not coping

Hi two messages on the trot. I am sitting here at the computer in floods of tears wondering why on earth I went ahead with this PM. Why didn't I stay in England and try the drug therapy first. Out of the blue in France I am not given the choice.

Don't know what I am expecting anyone to give as an answer. I know that I feel a sensation in my stomach like a heart beat - not sure whether it is a missed beat or my stomach in knots.

Help! any answers

Tired and Weired

Hi I am all set to winge again. For the last week I was beginning to feel better. Went cycling and didn't feel to tired. For the last couple of days I have not an ounce of energy, I feel completely washed, headachey and didn't sleep last night because of a missed beat. I thought when the PM took over in my case at night there were no missed beats, perhaps I am wrong.

I went to the doc this morning and he checked BP and HR and told me I am probably stressed. Why, oh why do th...

Some Good News!

Well, it has been about a month since I went in to see my EP about getting off the Toprol XL. He said I had to take 25 mg daily for a month (cutting it from 50mg) then come back in to see how I and my pacer was doing. I had the check today and the pm is great and so am I. No SVT detected either! YAY! So, I have to take a 12.5 mg tablet tomorrow then I am off the Toprol XL until April 11th!!! When I go back in to see my EP in April, he is going check the pm again and make sure I'm okay and...

Long heart Beat

It is me yet again today. Apart from my fatigue and not sleeping I have developed over the last day a feeling that my heart misses a beat. It feels like it stops and then starts again one beat later.

Is this stress as well?

Endocarditis all clear

Hi all,

I posted a while ago saying I'd been in hospital for two months getting treatment for endocarditis after my pacemaker lead became infected. Just yesterday I got a call from my doctor saying the bloods tests and echo are all clear. This is good news because if the infection is gone I won't need open heart surgery to remove a tiny bit of embedded lead that was left when they removed the infected lead.
I had a holter monitor as well which showed my bradycardia and heart blo...

Remote PM checkup question

Hi!
I have another question for my more experienced pacers. I've had my PM remotely interrogated 2x now. (medtronic adapta) Each time, it took me 4 or 5 attempts to get a successful reading. The little green dots that progress during the interrogation would get almost to the end, and then the process aborted. A couple times the signal to reposition the device would signal, so I tried that. I haven't figured out what I might be doing wrong. The phone line is not the problem, as it even...

Decision to make

I have had my PM for 1 1/2 years now. It seems that I now have a cholce to make and I could really use some advice. I know that I should call my EP, I am hesitant at the moment.

For the past year and a half, my PM was set to
DDD mode where it paced my ventricle due to intermittent second degree heart block. I recently wore a monitor for two weeks and found out that I feel pretty good with the PM set in VVI or as I like to call it "backup mode" with the PM set to kick in if my...

Postponed till 2/22

Thanks for the response to my inquiry.
I found out today that my PM will not be inserted untill next Friday, instead of tomorrow (doctor is sick).
One more question. My regular cardiologist told me I would probably stay in hospital overnight, however, the cardiologist doing the insertion says no, unless there is some complication. What is your experience with this?
Thanks, Doug

How a pacemaker is implanted

Several have asked about the procedure of implanting a pacemaker. I just ran across the surgeons O.R. report that took a bit of doing to get. Though you might be interested.

DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: After informed consent was obtained, the patient was take to the operating room where the area in the left clavicle was cleaned and prepped. A venogram was done to locate the left subclavian vein. Needle, wire, then introducer and then pacemaker wires were introduced into the left subclav...
