I recently found why I was getting a "shock" every night at 8:40 pm. It's because my pacemaker is programmed to run a test every 24 hours if I am resting.I am usually watching TV then . I may start taking a walk instead . No one told about this test . I found out this morning, I was worried sick for the past couple days when I realized I was a getting a KICK type thing at the same time each night . My previous pacemaker did not do this. I could find nothing on the internet a...

Kickboxing anyone?

I've had my pacemaker for about 8 months now and I've been doing various bits of aerobics and things but haven't tried my real love - kickboxing! Now, I know they said "no contact sports" but I was just wondering if there's anyone out there who's doing any sort of martial arts? Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a protective vest? I'm based in the UK, female and about 5ft2, so I'm finding it tricky finding one that isn't designed for enormous rugby players! Thanks!

Re: Praying for relief (Posted by carismendez)

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows how carismendez is doing? It's nearly 8 months since I was fitted, and I'm doing fine (touch wood! checkup tonight!). I'm still on midodrine and feel like I'm really alive after 24 years of fainting and low bp! Hope Carismendez is doing okay... Life can feel like an impossible challenge while you're waiting for your battery!

My ablation was a success

It's been over a month since my ablation. I have been feeling great. My breathing and energy level has returned to normal, well at least normal for me.

I have yet to have my follow-up check-up, but I'm almost 100% sure I'm back in sinus rhythm.

You may recall that I told my doctors (and wife) that I was going to buy a new mountain bike if the ablation was a success. Well, guess what? I'm the proud owner of a new Trek bike. I've been biking everyday for nearly a week no...

leads affected by airbag?

Hi all,

Last week I was involved in a car accident where my airbag deployed. I have some bruising across my chest so I scheduled a check-up with my cardiologist to make sure that the PM and leads are all okay, but the appointment hasn't happened yet. I'm curious if anyone else has been in this situation before.

Thanks,
Michelle

Symtoms after pacemaker implant

Hello All, My Dad just had a pacemaker implanted one week ago for bradycardia, he was also prescribed beta-blockers for papatations. He is still having episodes of palpatations and funny sensations like heart "thumping," and he can feel cold at times and yet flushed at other times. The Doctors have checked the pacemaker and all results show that it is running properly. Can anyone tell me if they experience similiar or even different, or funny sensations or changes since their pacemaker was im...

frozen shoulder

Hi everyone,
well I just got a checkup after my surgery on Wednesday, I got the stitches taken out and the dr. said I am healing very fast. However for the past 2 days I have been experiencing extreme pain in ly left shoulder and neck. I learned from my Dr. that it is Frozen shoulder. I was told by many Drs and Nurses after my surgery not to move my left arm that much, so I followed exactly what they said. When I saw my Cardiologist today,he said to move the arm slightly below the shoul...

New pacer on 6-30-07

Just got my new device! Curious to know, from those who have had them for awhile, what physical limitations have you learned about that you did not expect? I'm 47 and pretty active. No contact sports, but golfing, skiing, bowling, swimming, fishing, biking, heavy yard work and some light weight lifting all part of my "pre pacer world". Any of these cause anyone problems? Thanks, Jim

OKAY, and I thought I heard everything...

Hello again, everyone. Thank you all again for your feedback and suggestions. I welcome them all.

Well, my doc got the report from the last scan showing something was happening near the pacemaker. After waiting for the entire week on the edge of the seat despite several phone attempts by me, I got no response from him or his nurse. Finally I called again today (one week later) and I finally spoke to his nurse. Apparently, the doc said the result of my last scan wasn't strong enough to...

Running going downhill

I have been a runner for most of my adult life. Late 2003 I ran my first marathon in a respectable time (3:33) for a 50 yr old. Once I recovered from the marathon I started running again 3 months later. After a several months of running I began having "sudden exhaustion" events. I would be running fine for several miles, feeling good then suddenly I was forced to stop. My endurance would suddenly disappear. I faced the same problem once I began running again in 2005. Again, it appeared af...

canada day

to-day is canada day july.ist 2007. in 1967 i was 25 and our son was born in march and so therefore we had a centennial baby because that year was canada's 100th birthday. our youngest is now 40. pierre trudeau was in power and life was good. here we are all these years later and life is still good except for the awful threat over our heads that at any time another disaster like 9/11 could happen. so far the world has been able to deter the action of these people. they are doing a good job but w...

ICD Implant and still feeling pain!

Hi there. I had my ICD implanted June 14, 2007 (about 2 and half weeks ago), and I am still feeling pain. It isn't sharp shooting, but it is a constant pressure...almost like someone is pushing down on a bruise. In order to make it look cosmetically better they put mine lower, so not sure if that is why I am feeling the pain. I just wanted to see if other felt this way and for how long they felt it. Tylenol and not moving for a long period of time helps. Also, I notice it gets worse as the day g...

Please wear the stupid sling!!!

I am having two leads fixed tomorrow, so please wear the sling, even if they tell you its okay to "use your arm' after one week. I really tried my best to follow the instructions of the people who supposedly know best, but now I am having my doubts. both my doctor and the nurse that checks the device after the first week said use your arm, live your life. maybe they should know what that entails. i took their advice and know now that after just two weeks, a lead had come out, of course no one wo...

Hi Everybody,
I am new to the pacemaker world, just got my implant on the 27th of June. I have a duel chamber biotronik cylos. I have expieranced very little pain from it, however I have a couple of symtoms which scare me.
I sometimes get swelling in the feet, not alot but noticable enough. I also still have nasea and seem to never really be hungry. I also sometimes get tingling in my feet, hands and face.
Are these normal reactions to the pacemaker implantation or should...
