New EP appointment

Hello everyone,

Well I have finally got my EP appointment coming up on the 16th January.  Haven’t seen an EP since before Covid although I have had a few telephone consults, but they are not quite the same, are they.  I have been referred back to my EP to discuss my atrial tachy arrhythmias and where to go from here?

I will be seeing a new EP, since my old one has now retired, so it will be an opportunity to start afresh.  I hope we will like each other and th...

Nightly remote checks

Good evening all, I've had the pacemaker since September 2022 and every night the pacemaker  runs a check at 1230. The last 3 nights the tests have completely stopped is this something to be worried about please? I pace 1% in the first 3 months.

Today, I had a pacing test and the report shows RV Lead Pacing Percentage 96.6% which was 26.6% 6 days ago.
Is this normal?

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Recent Experience with Accolade RightRate Minute Ventilation settings

I have a BS Accolade L331 PM. I am a biker, so I need the Minute Ventilation feature to function well for me. I am going to meet with my EP, his technical people and a rep.from Boston Scientific on Jan.13, 2023. They will adjust the PM and then put me on a bicycle stress test device to see if their settings are any good. We may have to go around a few times to get it right.

I am looking for other bikers experiences with Minute Ventilation. What settings did you end up with Response...

Pacemaker Mediated Tachycardia

In September this year my cardiologist/EP diagnosed me as having PVC induced PMT.  The St. Jude/Abbott rep was called in and she changed a setting with my pacemaker and all was right with my world again!  Plus most of my severe fatigue issues were resolved... a most appreciated benefit.

Just in the past couple of days I have been experiencing arrhythmia, mostly fluttering.  Before I get too concerned I wonder if any of you have this issue and could it simply r...

Sensed AV Delay

Hi

Just wondering if anyone might have any idea as to why a 'sensed' AV delay might be programmed longer than a 'paced' AV delay and what effect this might have?  I've always had the reverse programmed e.g. the sensed AVD value is always less than the paced AVD - seems odd!

Also re: length of AVD. Is 350 msecs a long or average AVD to prevent v.pacing for 1st degree AVB?

Many thanks

11:11 p.m.

Got my Biotronik PM implanted in Feb. '22.  Set at 60/130.  Going well.   However in the past 2-3 weeks I've noticed something I hadn't before.  Perhaps this was happening and I just didn't notice.  In any case, as I'm lying in bed at night at 11:11 (give or take a minute) my heart rate suddenly speeds up and I can feel it pounding.  Only lasts about 20 seconds at most, then drops back to normal.  Past couple of nights...

Problems after pacemaker check

I am experiencing irregular heartbeat after routine pacemaker check at electrophysiologist's office.  Is there a possibility it was reset improperly?  I mentioned to the physician that day that it was occurring, and he said it was not possible that it be caused by the pacemaker check.  I am going back today, probably to have an uncomfortable conversation.  Anybody else ever have a similar experience?

Micra AV Education

So i posted this on the Micra AV group on Facebook. Please go there for comments, and further information. ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/1533131873540969/posts/2138193303034820/ )

I've been thinking about teaching people about their Micra AV from a technical standpoint. Understanding exactly how the device programming works and where device techs and Micra AV fall short.

From my research, a lot of people who have Micra AV are poorly tracked, either symptomatically or asymp...

Question About Remote Transmission Results

Hi,

I have had a CRT-D since 2019.  I just looked in my chart to see the results of my latest remote transmission, and I see this comment in the summary:

Since 10/23/22, there were 14 short V-V intervals reported.

Could someone tell me what this means and should I be worried?

Thanks!

update 1-A on high rate episodes

On Dec 5th recieved an email telling me that via the patient portal for the Heart Specailist i have a new message.  Looked an sure enough there was one from the Medical Records division.  They had finally responded to my email of Nov 2,2022. Saying there have been 2 recent tranmissions of 9/20/22 and Nov 27,2022 .She had printed out the summary and arrththmia log events for each transmission. Would leave them up front in an envelope in the records cabinet.  And i can pick them...

Replacement device - still no home monitor

I have third degree heart block from a surgical complication when my aortic valve was replaced in 2014, and so before I left the hospital a pacemaker was implanted. I didn't have any arrhythmia or other electrical issues before the valve surgery, and frankly I have never really noticed any difference now that I am paced.

Anyway, here we are 8 years later and the original Medtronic device needed replacement owing to getting low on battery. After a number of final tests on the day of&...

remote transmission results from sept 20,2022

I just recieved the results, took many tries.  I knew i should wait at least a week before contacting the Heart Center.  Then we had Hurricane IAN come.  So waited another week.  Than through the patient portal send a message to the EP who signs electronically(this time on 10/2/2022), no answer from his office.  mean while i had written to the cardiologist that i had planned to eat some trigger foods.  No answer from her.  Then i called the pacemaker clinic(...

Pacemaker replacement

Hi

Not posted for a long time now. I recently had my device changed after 7.5 years ( can't believe how quick it's gone). Went from a St Jude's to a Biotronik, both duel lead
Proceduce went well , just a horrible few seconds whilst my heart decided if it was going to beat on its own. I have complete block but still retain an intrinsic rate of approx 30 bpm.
Unfortunately I'm having problems with exercise and my new device, settings were put to my pre...

Rate Response change?

I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of a situation similar to mine. I have had Boston Scientific Accolade since May '21 after fracturing a lead with my Medtronic.  I am a swimmer and my EP and I thought I would get a better rate response for that activity with the dual sensor.  That turned out not to be the case and we concluded that only the accelerometer was effive in the pool, and that wasn't great.  I was learning to live with it.  About 3-4 weeks ago, I no...

Ventricular threshold continues to increase

I have been on 3 monthly checks this year because my ventricular threshold is steadily increasing from 1v to 2.9v (in 9 months).
I have a DDD pacemaker for total heart block after surgery for valve replacement and subsequent infective endocarditis.

The cardiologist doesn't seem to be concerned, just says come back in 3 months. Should I be worried?

Pacemaker results

Hi everyone, I have a St Jude Endurity fitted in Oct 2020 for total heart block after heart surgery.

Last year's check showed VP 99% AP 26% and ventricular threshold 0.4ms 1.87v (previously 1.2)

This year's check showed VP 77% AP 22% and ventricular threshold 0.4ms 2.7v

Also, battery life was 10.9 years last year and 6 years this year.

I would appreciate an opinion on why you think the numbers have changed?

Thanks a lot

Heart rate spike

My pacemaker is set at 55 bpm, and usually is right there. Lately, though, after a glass or two of red wine before bed, it spikes to 80 bpm, with no chest pain nor shortness of breath; my Kardia Card reads out its ECG info as normal rhythm, normal bpm range (50-100), with no sign of Afib or other irregular rhythms. My bpm usually pops back to the pacemaker setting of 55 after 48 hours or so. What goes? Has anyone else had this unsettling experience?

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
