more "cable" than before......

I am 9 months post biventricular ICD implant. - Today I did a great deal of strenuous work - (I'm moving.....) tonight I noticed it feels as though there is more "cable" around the unit than before - as if I pulled it from somewhere (under the device?) by lifting and hauling so much. The area is tender (it always is when I push myself hard) - since mine doesn't regulate my pulse I can't tell if it's otherwise doing it's thing - (keeping things in synch - ) or not. Has any one else ever ex...

Chiropractics and ICDs

More questions. . . I have a pinched nerve in my back that has me barely walking. Any problems with a visit to the chiropractor for relief? So far nothing he's done has made me 'feel funny' or aware of my ICD (3/13/08). but he was wondering if there could be problems with the electric stimulation or vibrator (?) he's used

changing the pace

hi everyone

i just wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem as i have. I went to the doctor recently. I actually met the doctor who created/invented the software for our pacemakers. He changed the rate to go faster when I do extra activity. When i greek dance or go up the stairs or anything that requiries heavy activity I tend to get shortness of breath to the point i couldn't breathe, i felt my heart was going to burst, it really hurt and i felt my heart out of sync. I haven...

Warfarin for atrial fibrillation

I know this is a question I need to ask my doctor, but until I get a chance to ask, does anyone know how long people generally stay on warfarin (Coumadin) for afib? I had one episode of afib in December. As far as we know that was the first and only episode we are aware of. (My pacemaker event recorder has not recorded any since that one.) How long would I need to go without another episode before they might consider discontinuing warfarin?

Just a little helpful info I hope

I do quite a bit of studying on the chemical workings and nutritional needs of the heart and body and just thought this info might be helpful to some. This is taken from a book titled "Reverse Heart Desease Now" written by a "new cardiologist" named Dr. Stephen T. Sinatra:
"Every cardiologist should be interested in the following benefits of fish oil:

Decreases Lp(a), triglycerides, and blood pressure

Increases HDL

Reduces arterial wall inflammation

pacemaker syndrome

I have had my two lead medtronic pacemaker for SSS for one year now, today my card doc tells me I might have pacemaker syndrome. I still lack the energy that I had before the pacemaker and I get lightheaded on stairs, not much stamina and I get cold very easily. Has anyone faced this problem, your thoughts or insights would be welcomed.
Thanks, Gary

PACEGIRL / WARFARIN / PETER

Yes Pacegirl, what is the point of taking warfarin? I see no point, only dangers with my platelet count at 125000. Warfarin has its risks and potential side effects. My close friend in Bristol who also has a pacemaker was in hospital for 4 days on the critical list because of warfarin. He now takes coated aspirin ( effectively an anti platelet drug ) and has had no further problems and is on his second pacemaker. Its about time the medical industry came up with a favoured alternative to warfarin...

Pain

Thanks to Cathryn B and johnc_19 for reassuring me about my current situation. At least I now know there is a resolution. My second reaction is "who is responsible" for the costs? Any help there? Gee, I feel like you two are doing all the work for me. Thanks again. Chukat

This continues about a friends infection. His e-mail below. Has anyone been told that their dogs had caused an infection. I hope he is in for treatment as we speak.

hi Mike

The situation has gone worse, than I could imagine

I saw the infectious disease specialist yesterday, and he advised to remove the PMkr immediately, and I went over to see the cardiologist and surgeon, ready to plan the op.

pacemaker information

My Dr. has suggested that I see a Cardiac Physician regarding a pacemake because my heart rate is too low to suit her. If the Cardiac Dr. says I need one, what is the cooperation period involved with this procedure?

Pacing Sensation

Over the last couple of weeks I've occasionally noted sensations of pacing. Always just a kick or maybe two and they seem to be entirely random. The feeling is identical to the kicks (but lower in intensity) I feel when the EP cranks up the PM voltage during periodic tests. I'm approaching my 5th month after implant and it seems odd that I'd suddenly begin feeling these. They are not painful and really not much of a bother, just a bit odd. About the only function of my PM being used is a lo...

THROMBOCYTOPENIA AND WARFARIN

I have a bi-ventricular resynchronising pacemaker with only the 2 ventricular leads fitted. I still have permanent Atrial Fibrillation.
I also have thrombocytopenia which is a low platelet count. My count is 125000 , the normal range is 150000 to 350000. My clotting is slow and any cut takes ages to heal up. The doctors want to put me on warfarin which will futher undermine my clotting efficiency. I am very unhappy with this as even our own health service guidlines are that you should not...

Heart Rate monitors

Question.....I have been trying to increase my running, I currently run 5 times a week 6 - 10 kms at a time....I am wanting to get a heart rate monitor. The reason for this is that when I use my stepper or the treadmill I notice that my heart rate fluctuates dramatically....I spoke with my PM tech on my last visit and she made some adjustments but she told me that maybe is was the machine not picking up my heart rate properly.....I thought that was a reasonable answer, until such time that I wa...

Calling all firefighters

Hi,

I am a 39 yo Firefighter/Paramedic and got my pacemaker about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Recovery is going well and I am hoping to get off light duty and back to work by September. Are any of our members active Firefighters? My questions are about throwing ladders, pulling ceiling, lifting heavy patients and forcible entry. Have you had any problems physically with the site hurting or mechanical problems like a lead breaking with such physical work. One more question, does the intense...
