What is it like?

When I got my pm it was just accepted in my family and those around me. Unfortunately when I fel so ill it just fell on deaf ears and I went though a very personal lonely time. My doc ignored the symptoms I was presenting with and it was all sorted out one morning in emergency. After that I changed my doc. I had been going to him for about 6 months when he asked me the question: "What is it like to have a pacemaker?" I was taken aback as no one had asked me. I could have hugged him. Is t...

April 10/08 sense brothers surgery

My brother had an implant of the pacemaker and defibrillator. He was told that he would notice an increase in energy that he has not felt sense the decline in his health over a year ago. Instead he has been in and out of the hospital after his implants on April 10th with far less energy then what he had before the surgery and unable to catch his breath. Just walking from his bedroom to the bathroom takes away all his energy reserves and we are talking a matter of only a 8 ft. walk. The breath...

Getting my ICD next week

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board but have been reading some of the older posts and finding them very helpful. I'm 24 and will be getting my ICD next Tuesday. My Dad got his last summer and my uncle just got one last week, so I do know a bit about them, but so far I am the only female in our family to need one. I have HCM and Brugada syndrome. My Dad, aunt, and uncles have HCM but I am the only one who has been found to have Brugada syndrome. I was supposed to have an ablation for Wol...

Hi There - I have a subpectoral ICD implant. However, a big portion of the ICD is sticking out of my chest. My Dr. said that it is the area where the leads are located. Unfortunately, due to complications in the surgery, the entire device is not subpectorally implanted which is why it is sticking out. The problem I am having now is that it is red in that area and swollen and starting to be painful. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this. It also hurts under my left breast area...

Hi all

Hi had my dual chamber pacemaker fitted 6 weeks ago, it sits on top of my right pec just under the skin. I am already weight lifting at 100%effort but with new routines. I wish to body board etc with my kids is there any kind of padding you buy for protection or is it a case of making something.

Oh and great site,
I had AV block with heart slowing or stopping, it seems good now.
The site is a very valuable source, thank you.

Hi to all PM/ICD friends who helped pray for my husband, Paul who recently had a large "questionable CA" polyp removed from his rectum; It's been an anxious and traumatic 2 wks for my family, but like we say, everything comes to pass...I'm here to report again.
Paul's operation went well other than some bleeding which the Dr kept him another day in hospital.
There's good news and bad news; The bad one is that the histology report from the tumour was cancerous. The good news is that we...

The doctors now have informed me that I will be getting a pacemaker within the next month and a half...I'm really scared and was wondering if anyone can give me an insight on what it's like to live with one. Thanks all!

Continuous underarm, shoulder pain

A few weeks ago, I installed a patio in my backyard which involved moving 30 pavers. Since then my pacemaker has moved and has given me a lot of pain. It probably also doesn't help that I broke the stitch that held it in place about a month after I got it. I called my cardiologist and he referred me to the ER. They confirmed that it had moved, but nothing else was done. The pacemaker clinic at my local hospital also refused to check my pacemaker because I use a different clinic out of town....

how long will I need physical therapy?

Hi, I'm a 33 year old mom of three. One day, without any prior health problems, I suddenly felt dizzy and fainted. While I was being tended to by EMS and transported to the hospital I lost consciousness several more times. A heart monitor in the hospital detected arrythmia. I got in touch with an excellent cardiologist who had me tested for every possible cause, but could not come up with any. Since the syncope kept recurring while I was in the hospital for several days, and the monitor show...

Incision Area at 4+ months

It's been over 4 months since PM implant and the incision area still itches now and then. I also sometimes get the feeling of 'pins and needles' (which my cardio acknowledged and said would go away) too. I resist scratching since I know it's not a good idea. The area looks normal. I thought it might be my hair trying to grow back (went through many itchy spells everytime they shaved my chest for Holter monitoring) but it doesn't look like that's the cause. It's more evident after I've done some...

Was she right as long as she did below the waist I was safe?
