I have recently had a pacemaker implanted and have been out of work going on 2 1/2 months now. I am trying to find out the NFPA's definition of (pacemaker dependant) I have a call in to them presently to try and get an answer, if I can get one I will post it. I was sent for a second opinion from work after my cardiologist released me for full duty. I have been a paid FF for 27 years, I was diagnoised with Hodgkin's disease 22 years ago and have had no problems at work. If & when I can get an ans...

It feels like forever without being on here to check in on my great friends. I am officially in the Chicago area now it still seems weird to be here. To all who have prayed for my move thank you it means a lot.
I just wanted y'all to know you are in my thoughts often and I miss talking to a lot of you. I hope things are well and that life is going well.
To all the recent birthday people on the site who I have missed. I hope your special day was great and very blessed....
Thankyou

Just wanted to express my thanks to all for the many wonderful suggestions and tips regarding Mammograms and PM's. I was concerned with the potential for damage to leads, but feel better in knowing that so many have had it done without incident. I will be sure to show the tech just where the lower margin of the PM is. Wish me luck! Thanks again...Carol

Hi Everyone,
Got a pacemaker 2 years ago because my heart rate was dangerously low. Been fine for 2 years...excercising, lost some weight, health has been good (I also have Atrial Fibulation but I rarely feel it and so far it is only 1% of the time).
Recently used a friends blood pressure home device to check my BP and pulse rate. BP always comes up fine but pulse rate is constantly 59,58. My friend said that's good and the the low rate is probably my areobic excercise paying off. Howe...

I have not seen this one yet. Since my pacer implant 2 years ago my right shoulder on the pm side has been sore and stiff. It has not stopped any type of activity but is just uncomfortable. In the last 3 weeks my right hand has had a numb feeling when I sit at the computer or drive. I went to the pm clinic today and had a good 45 minute with the cardiologist and the pm readouts and ekg are all fine. He thinks the pm case could be pushing on a nerve or that scar tissue is causing it. Any comment...

Hi,
I recently had PM installed and am an avid big cruiser rider. Are there any special considerations I should look out for or be aware of, besides deer and cell phone using cage drivers.
Thx,
TL

Wow, I haven't been on here in a year, but I wanted to pop in and say hi and say that after a good healthy year with my first pacemaker, my hubby and I are actually talking about trying to have another baby! We have two older girls from before my pacemaker, so this will be my first one with the pacemaker. My ob/gyn wants me to go see a high-risk specialist first, so that appt. is scheduled for next Wednesday the 23rd. But I'm not too worried, I think everything I've read says it'll be just fi...

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and hoping for some insight about my new pacemaker. I'm a 32 year old woman with no previous health issues. I'd been having dizzy spells for the past year which, up until now, had been diagnosed as panic disorder. My good doctor had me wear a heart rate monitor and it turned out that my heart was stopping. I have complete heart block and had my pacemaker implanted 5 weeks ago. It's been a bit of a rough road as I'm convinced there's something els...

Hi Charly
You will be just fine. I am 73 years old and I had my ablation in Feb. of 2007 and required a pacemaker to operate 100 % of the time. The psychological feelings are worse than the physiological ones. You will need time to adjust but you wont feel the pacemaker like you think you will. I was very carefull to wear my sling for 6 weeks even in bed so as not to lift my arm over my head and pull the wires out. The incision will heal very easily. Try not to dwell on what you have...

Hello my fellow Pacers.
On the 16th @ 7am i will be having my AV Node Ablated, and becoming 100% Paced. So As some might be aware, I had my Medtronic Pacer fitted on the 26th of june. EP doc wanted to wait 3weeks before she ablated the AV node. So My questions Are what to expect. I mean when I wake up am i going to feel the pacer working? How long will the procedure be? EP doc stated from min of 4hrs, How was it for you? Any Post Op hints? I must say I'm a little scared, I mean it's actual...

Hi everyone,
Now that my ticker problems have been sorted, my Common Bile Duct has decided to grow and I need to have Gall Bladder surgery.
Saw the Liver Guy last week, unfortunately this cannot be done via laprascopy. Due to the CBD involvement, it's the big scar, bigger op that I'm facing.
I'm quite nervous about having major surgery, right after two heart ops...and with me now "pacemaker dependent".
I asked "how do you operate on someone who's pace...

To those of you that have had multiple pacemaker implants. Have you ever found yourself with an extra magnet that you place over your pacer? My magnet is about 4 inches tall and basically looks like a donut.
About two years ago after my second implant I found that I had an extra magnet.. since I didn't want it to go to waste I decided to take it fishing with me. Surprisingly I had a blast and came back that day in the river with about 50 new lures and a ton of hooks, ect.. How y...

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
