heart palpitations and anxiety

It has been 5 days since I have had my PM input. I have been doing good. More energy than I have felt in a long time, but today I started feeling like I was having anxiety attacks.

My daughter took my vitals and listened to my heart and she said everything sounds ok. I worry that in the middle of sleep that I might move my arm wrong and do something that might cause me to have to go back into surgery. I don’t know if this is normal. I don’t feel bad, but am really...

Does it get better?

Hello, everyone, I had a PM put in (due to Afib) on April 6 of this year. I am still healing, but I did have some good days last week, but after a few good days I seem to crash & burn. My heart is still jumping & I am very tired.

I have not seen the guy that will check my pacemaker yet. I see him this week. Is it normal to have these feelings ? Why don’t they check the PM sooner? I get so depressed. Anyone have any ideas of what I should do?

Visible Pacemaker

Chris here,

Thanks for all the positive feedback re my pm being very visible. Spoke to a friend on Friday who knows 2 people who have just had pm’s fitted and they aren’t really visible. Guess some of us aren’t that lucky. Will just have to get a suntan and maybe it won’t be so noticable then!!! Will see what happens at the Cardio unit tomorrow.

Thanks to all and hope everyone keeps well.

Regards
Chris

Visible pacemaker

I had my pacemaker fitted Mar 2010 - had six months of discomfort but since then fine, apart from still being breathless at times (if I hurry across roads. etc). It seems to be very visible and being female I feel quite conspicuous now that summer is coming and wearing t-shirts. I find people do tend to look and probably wonder. Does anyone else feel like I do?

It is a Medtronic dual lead. I really thought all that would show was the scar. Also if I lay in bed and I raise m...

News that blew me away!

When I first received my PM in 2003, it was implanted due to very low heart rate and I have 2 leads. At that time I was pacing 30% in the upper and 2% in the lower. This past week at my checkup it showed I am now packing 70% and 50%. That scares me to death!! I don't know why this is happening and I won't see the doctor for another 1.5 weeks. I don't want to become 100% dependent upon this thing.

Pets and Coping

Hi everyone! I’ve read just about every post on this site since I received my first PM back in March of this year. I know some of you are having problems with your devices and related heart issues. All scary stuff when you think about how important that little fist sized muscle is. No one would blame you for being depressed about having health issues. Lord knows I’ve had my problems, 3 heart caths and now a PM. And that doesn’t even compare to some of you guys.

Despite all thes...

Anti anxiety meds

I will be getting my pacemaker in a week and have been taking Alprazolam due to anxiety (only .25 before going to bed). Does anyone out there who has a pacemaker take meds to decrease anxiety? I'm wondering if I'll still be able to take this drug after I get the pacemaker.

PACEMAKER SPEED

Sally Fe

Sounds like you had a pacemaker installed to keep your heart rate from falling below 60 BPM. It is not supposed to raise it above that setting, just keep it from falling below 60 bpm. Your heart acts on its own above 60 bpm to raise your rate. The greater your activity the higher your heart rate. I think you are under a misconception, as I was, that your pacemaker is going to give you a dramatic boost in your energy level. Supposed to help some, less tiresome etc.Suggest you...

BOURDEUX WORLD FAMOUS ABLATION SHOULD I ?

Hi everyone, allan here, been quite a long time since my last post; have been feeling totally normal for last 2-3 years or as normal as beta blockers allow you to feel.  Had pacemaker installed in October 2007 for sinus bradicardia and paraxsomal atrial fibulation also not helped by an external search for right balance of thyroxine for a thyroid gland which was removed in 2004.

I am considering going to Bourdeux hospital to have ablation treatment to try and free my body from...

Just got my pacemaker 20 days ago

Hello, I am so happy to have found the Pacemaker Club. I have so many questions and fears. I hope that someome can help me.

I have chronic Afib. In 2009 I had an ablation & another in 2010. They did not work. Medicine would not keep me from going into Afib. I have spent that last year staying home because I feel so bad.

I had a pacemaker put in on April 6th. I felt much better until yesterday when I went into Afib (145). We called the doctors office, they were gone for the...

One bad week to the next!

Last Monday I had a CRT-D implanted.  As of Thursday I had to go back to the doctor due to feeling real bad.  Well I’m still feeling bad, and now, as of yesterday, my Mom was called home from God.  She was 81 years old and had been fighting a lot of problems and has been on hospice care for the last week and a half.

Today I have to go in and set things up for her.  Its been very painful for me; due to the fact that I had to sign a DNR order o...

Thank you

I had posted a note a few days after I received my pacemaker.(April 12 2011). I was really having a pity party . The responses were so helpful. Here I am less than two weeks out and the moods swings have stabilized. In addition, I did my first mile on my treadmill today. True, it took me 15 minutes but I have been adding a minute or two per day. I will go for 20 minutes tomorrow.
Thanks again for all the encouragemant. Annette

questions

I have had my PM now for 5 weeks and for the most part I feel like I have been getting my strength back slowly but steadily. When the PM was put in I noticed the dizziness was all but gone until a couple days ago. I have been having more of it, though not as bad as I was when I went to the emergency room 6 weeks ago. I do feel winded often though and I will start feeling weak after walking or standing for too long like in a line in the grocery store.

I have not lifted my hands above...

glad I'm not alone

hi,

I’m 42 and just got my new BFF on 4-21-11.  I had pulled a muscle in my leg, couldn’t get any sleep, so I went to a walk in clinic.  As soon as they got my pulse (it was 34) I was hooked up to an EKG then was thrown into an ambulance, taken to the ER & 5 days later I had a pacemaker.

I never got dizzy or passed out, so it’s a good thing I jacked up my leg!  Now here I am & it just seems so surrea...

Noise when chewing

I got paced on 12/13/2011 and I'm doing great; however about a week ago I noticed that when I chew I hear a sound. It sounds like it is coming from the pacemaker.

Has anyone encountered anything similar?

Thanks
Ozie

I'm finding this hard!

Hi all

I am 30 yrs old and had a pacemaker put in last Monday. My second child was born 10 weeks ago and I was diagnosed with complete heart block during my stay in hospital. I have had the condition since birth, but did not experience any obvious symptoms. I wanted to be paced and was told I would have to be after developing some minor symptoms. With two children under 2 I didn’t want to risk blacking out whilst looking after them.

I am struggling emotionally...
