ICD Sparked 28 times

My mother-in-law (70 yrs. old) had an ICD implanted November 2010. 3 weeks later it sparked 28 times. She spent 3 weeks in the hospital/rehab after the incident. Her heart rate & bp are controlled now but she is petrified (can't blame her). She lives alone. Some days are better than others but she is scared to be alone most of the time. She complains of soreness ("like a sunburn") on her sternum. She also complains of her left breast (the side the icd is on) feeling very heavy; so much so she ha...

Are you still tired?

I come and go periodically from this site as I continue to find answers to my ongoing issues since receiving my pacemaker almost 5 months ago. As I tell everyone, "My pacemaker and I still have not become friends." One friend recommended I take it out for drink, talk to it and get to know it. I replied that the problem is the darn thing never shuts up and keeps me awake all night. :)

So that being said, I had become so sick and tired of being tired. I was "super mom" and so full...

the spoon therory

Not sure if anyone has seen this before but I had to share. It was sent to me today and was kind of ironic as I had someone at church ask about whats wrong with my heart. I told her I have cardiomyopathy and a few other issues, and she reply Oh wow, my brother had that and died! than she looked at me and said, I'm sorry I said that out loud. Actually was kind of humorous, but any way than I ran across this and had to post... Enjoy

The most powerful words I've ever heard!

The words that kept my heart beating

In the first year of having my pacemaker implanted I was suffering emotionally and physically. I was not use to my heart racing all night. I was having panic attack and thinking my heart was going to stop; other times I would think it was going to explode because of the rapid heartbeats. One night I was worrying myself sick. I was feeling very bad and my heart was pumping so fast I felt as though it was going to come out of my chest. I was afraid...

First Timer-please help

Hi everyone. Just joined. First pacemaker was installed this past Monday...evidently got a bad virus in the heart a few months ago. My heart muscle and arteries are in wonderful condition...no damage. Now, trying to live without lifting the left arm. no heavy lifting, etc...you know the routine. Will the depression go away? I had just skied four hours on Friday with my family. In good shape. Blood pressure and cholesterol always ideal. Feeling so sad and concerned about the future. How...

Being harassed

A few days a go, I posted a note about bouts of dizziness and breathlesness, just walking briskly (Read "Dizzy" 2011-01-28). I got very good input from several members.
I got busted however, since my wife took a look at the postings in the forum and found my request for help. Since the cat was out of the bag, I made the mistake of admitting this little problem to my sisters.
I called my cardio's secretary, but he doesn't want to see me before November. Now, my family is constantly o...

Family

Hey everyone,

Well this is my first post and I am really excited that I stumbled upon this website. I had an Adapta DR implanted on June 3rd of 09 for SSS and some instances of 2nd and 3rd Degree Heart block. For me and especially my family it was quite a surprise to find out something was wrong, I had gone all the way to my Freshman year of college with no major health issues at all. It took the combined effort of my main cardiologist and the EP Specialist to finally diagnose me afte...

New pacemaker after heart block 2 -- ANXIETY

Hi,
I'm 42 and just 10 days ago got rushed to ER with a pulse below 40 for a pacemaker. They said it was heart block 2, showing signs of heart block 3. I had no idea, but I was feeling dizzy and short of breath on minimal exercise. Now I'm just trying to learn all I can and this site has helped cure some of my anxiety. But what I can't really comprehend is will I be able to live a normal-ish life and have a reasonable life expectancy? Can someone my age live for another 30 years or longer w...

The Winter Weather and Me!

My name is Joan and I am a senior citizen. I have my 2nd pacemaker for 3 years now and the first one was for 6 years. It happens to be one of the big ones because they had to put 3 leads in this time and it looks like the size of a pack of cigarettes or deck of cards and is very high up so one can see it anytime I wear anything that is not covered up. Really don't care about that aspect of it. I use a pillow at night to sleep so that it does not lean on the mattress but on a little baby pillow. I...

frustrated follow up

Thanks for all your kind messages.  I really don’t feel alone anymore.  Anyway, just a follow up.  I got my hands on the last report of the interrogation: the comments of the EP were: ......patient can not tolerate AV dissociation in DDIR mode. Pace in DDDR mode at fast rate to minimize post extrasystolic pauses. ......
he picked up a systolic murmur as well.

One of the other doctors who was present at the interrogation wanted to do an echocardiogram...

frustrated

Hi there new friends,
veronika here. I am still having problems, being "wired" with a HR of 80. the EP put the rate up from 60 to 80. Since 4 days I try to reach him, I leave messages on the answering machine to see him and have my HR "tweaked" to 70 bpm. I phoned again yesterday and was upset that they did not get back to me. his secretary said: he is thinking about. I wish I could talk to him and find out why he put it to 80. I feel "propelled" and have trouble relaxing with 80 and told t...

Am I the only one????

Thank you to everybody who answered my letter.  I had no idea a viral infection could cause this.  I have allergies, so every so often I catch colds and sometimes develop a little bronchitis, but then it goes away.  I am NOT a smoker or drinker, and used to walk every morning about 1 mile and felt o.k.  My surgery went very well.  All my Drs.were wonderful. They advised my family for me to get 100% rest while I was home until I felt stronger and was out of the red zone.&...
