Too much time at home

I never had any heart problem, not even high blood prresure.  All of a sudden I have 2 heart attacks, I was brought back by "paddles"(not a good feeling).  So this meant my heart’s electrical system was not right,(get this) the Dr. said that some "virus" got into my system and went to my heart and weakened it.  Is somebody out there with this problem??  So I had an emergency operation done and a pacemaker/defib. put in me.  That was Nov.19, 2010...

Breathlessness

Hello my kindred spirits. I'm desperate for advice if possible. I had my PM and defib fitted urgently On 1 October 2010 after VT block due to long QT Syndrome (I hadn't known I had this) and my heart stopped in resus.

I returned to work on 4 January but I'm devastated at the breathlessness I'm still experiencing. I'm a personal assistant to a consultant (I love my job) but I can't walk more than a few feet without stopping and gasping for breath. I've spoken to my cardiologist (my PM...

Nervous

I have a pacemaker since I was 24, in the past 11 years I have upgraded to a pace/defib. I am fully dependent on the pacemaker. August of 09 I had a recall on a lead, and replaced in that month. Dec. of 09 the lead came loose, 3 hours of struggling in a hospital until a became stable. It was replaced. I spent many months of restless nights waiting for that night to repeat. Now I must go back and have the new lead removed and replaced because in it is reading my T wave as a heart beat and t...

Sleeping with a Pacemaker

Sleeping with a Pacemaker is difficult particularly when you sleep on your side. I found a solution and it has worked great.

When sleeping on my side the goal is to get my head off the bed the same distance as it is from my shoulder to my neck. That way the shoulder isn't squashed.

At WalMart I found a formed pillow under the brand name of "Canopy" and is called "Contoured Memory Foam Pillow For Side and Back Sleepers" It is a "Standard" model. This formed pillow has a h...

SLEEP

Does anyone else have the problem of  trying to sleep at night?  My pm was put in on Dec 14 and it has been flipping around so my left arm is sore, or is the no sleep from anxiety?  The reason they put it in was 3rd stage heart block, surprised me to say the least.  Has anyone else had anxiety problems over this or am I just weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Project Linus

I think the best thing that has helped me cope with the anxiety of knowing that my heart no longer works so well on it's own was learning to crochet. A concerned neighbor and friend has come over to visit numerous times and she has taught me to crochet as I have recovered from this surgery and try to accept what has happened to me.

Last week she took me to my first Project Linus meeting and now I am diligently working to complete a crocheted blanket that I too can donate to such a...

sleeplessness

Has anyone experienced any problems with sleep after a pm was put in?  Mine is a month old now and my arm is still very uncomfortable, even though I’m tired, I can’t sleep.  I don’t know if it is pain or just fear of the unknown that is causing it.  Has anyone else experienced it ?  I would sure appreciate your input.

Oh boy....

The last few months have been interesting. I used to take my 4yr old son and walk all over town. We'd be out for HOURS walking and checking things out. Then, back in Sept '10, I started having a REAL difficult time breathing. Went to the hospital and was sent to the big hospital. When I got there, I was told I was having Congestive Heart Failure. A month later I had a double bypass. While I was in the hospital in October, I asked my cardiac surgeon if I had a heart attack and he said ther...

Life with pacemaker

Hi,

Its been a year since I had my pacemaker. I still have occasional pain in the pacemaker area when driving, running, etc.  And I aways feel like the pacemaker is moving when I come across any bumps during driving.  Is this common for everyone?  Is the pain due to the pacemaker being screwed to chest bones and for any pressure we feel the pain?

I can feel the shape of the pacemaker with my hand. Is this common?  Please share your thoughts? As e...

Has any one had this happen

I got my PM in November of 2010.  They made a change in the settings in December.  After they changed it I started having this weird thing happen - after I start doing something like walking or bringing in the wood for the fireplace, my heart felt like it was racing and beating a little fast.  When I checked it, it was like 110 112, then it would go away.  I went back to see my Card Doc and the PM Tech came in and checked it out, he said everything was great and...

Muscle pain?

Hi

I posted a message regarding chest pain at night a while ago. I went to the doctor and he said I am fine, saying that it could be the muscles around my heart hurting. Can I make it go away?

I am still around and doing well.

Hi, I got my PM for SSS on 6/18/10. This group has helped me through some tough ’mental’ times. The PM itself has been a Godsend.

I am doing well but I do have some down times where I feel a bit depressed and this stinks as I am not the type of person to get down. I know it just must be from all the turmoil going on in my family but somehow I go back to having this PM.

I just wanted to say Thank You to all of you who helped me get though this last year. I wish you...

how do I get courage to speak up

Pookie and all, you seem so strong in speaking up. Eventhough I think I am an "informed" patient, having had 2 dual pacemakers in 5 months (leads malfunctioning) I find I am gunshy in speaking up. For 5 months I told them, something is not right, and I was told : everything is fine, give it time. But I know my body and can feel if there is no pulse for 3 seconds, then the heart skips happy along with 90 til 100, then goes to 46 or so.
So finally i collapsed on christmas day and had...

Cardio Block

I would like to hear from some people that have a pacemaker due to Cardio block. How long you've had it? How you feel on a day to day basis? Your history with your pacemaker.

My heart is strong, no blockages, just my electrically system went haywire.

Thanks for the support

Re: surgery question and interrogation testing on my pacaemaker
Thanks for your words of encouragement from my first posting on this site. I will let you know how my next interrogation goes in February. I receive two a year. My implant was done in May 2010. It was by accident that a heart block was discovered as I had gone to hospital for a cellulitis infection of my left arm and it was discovered that my heart rate was 30 bpm! ISt did go down to 28 bpm. I had to wait a week in hospital for...

i am new in this

Hi, got my first PM implanted in July with an AV node ablation one week later. After complaining about the pain and being uncomfortable with the site of implantation (could feel the edge of the PM under my arm), getting dizzy and lightheaded, it was finally "detected" that the PM is malfunctioning. I collapsed on Christmas day, rushed to hospital, heartbeat between 40-110. An intravenous PM was put in my neck to keep my heart going. Got a new one implanted on the right side (my domi...

Pacemaker at 21

I received my pacemaker in September of last year after a spontaneous 13 seconds of asystole. In November I had a lead revision. After the lead revision the incision site became infected, the wound dehissed, and after a month, finally healed leaving me with a large scar across the left side of my chest. All before my 22nd birthday.

I was having a hard time dealing with the fact that I needed the pacemaker to begin with. I am 21. A collegiate level swimmer, and runner. I do not dri...

Pacemaker buzzing?

My dad has chronic afib and had a pacemaker implanted in November he experienced a buzzing in the pm last night. Any ideas why?

Also he is waiting to have an afib ablation sometime this month for the persistent afib - anyone with a similar story?  He is 70 years old and has afib since age 37. He often gets winded and his pacemaker is doing 50 percent of the work on the lower end of his heart.

Just a concerned daughter. Thanks for any input! <3
