Soccer

I'm 51 and just got my PM last Friday, completely unexpectedly. I passed out a few times and my heart stopped for too long, so I was told it was a no-brainer. I'm sure it was the right call. Other than these episodes, my heart is in great shape and the doctor told me there shouldn't be any restriction on exercising, so I'd like to continue playing soccer on over-40 and over-50 teams. However, I've read that if you have a PM you should avoid contact sports, though, and sometimes it can get pr...

Sore Area at PM Site

Hi,
I'm 2 1/4 years past the surgery to implant my PM.
I have noticed lately from time to time that I have a
sensation at the PM site. I can't quite describe it but it is just irritating; not really a pain. It seems to be inside of my skin at the PM.

I did notice this time that it was after I did some yardwork.
Of course, using the rake caused those muscles near the PM to move quite a bit.

I'm wondering if the PM might be slipping back and forth in it...

Gallbladder surgery

OK. I'm sorry to be off the topic of pm's here, but I was curious who in this wonderful club has ever undegone gallbladder surgery? I'm due to have mine out June 9th, and I was just looking for info. from people who have had it done. I have time on my hands waiting for June 9th, so I keep thinking about it.

The surgery will be done on an outpatient basis because it is being done laparoscopically. Gallbladder problems run in the women in my family, and my HIDA scan showed an abno...

Hi,
I am new here and wanted to know if anyone could help or maybe have some of the same problems...
I had my pacemaker put in 2006 and ever since then nothing but problems!

1.The device moved/shifted from my left shoulder to under my left armpitt. (one of the Dr said that the hematoma shifted it another said no it was just placed wrong)

2.It is unconfortable to move my arm...actually very painful to move it.

3.I feel like the pacemaker is rubbing ag...

Av Block - no other primary reason?

Hi everyone -

I am very excited to find this site dedicated to those of us in this unique club. I am a 40 y/o male and last Monday (5/5) I failed my stress test (could not get a heart rate above 78). On Tuesday I had a heart cath which showed a healthy heart, valves and arteries. No blockages. I also had a holter monitor for a couple days and an echo. By Thursday I had the pacemaker installed to treat Level II AV block.

Its clear I have level II AV block but its not...

Thanks for all your comments

Hi Pals

Thanks for all your comments regarding anaethestics. I have to have my big toe "rebuilt" I would prefer to be asleep. I have to see the anaesthetist on Wednesday so will discuss it with her. Your comments have helped me to form the questions I need to ask. What would I do without you all? Cheers Billie

like clock work

I have this weird question that I am almost afraid to ask, as it seems so silly. I do believe this is not in my head. Ok, here goes. Has anyone experienced anything like this...At precisiously 7:30pm my chest on the left side, the PM area behind the breast, goes nuts. I get this increased pressure, and I feel like my heart races, it is almost a crushing feeling and takes my breath away for that second. It lasts less than a minute, but you could set a clock to this feeling. Any thoughts????

Bulging pacemaker/defib

My husband had his third pacemaker/defit implanted in Dec. 2007. In April he had a pocket revision as the skin over the device was to thin and causing him pain. Since then, the device sticks out like a baseball. He does not have an infection as he has been to the doctor who took cultures, etc. on three occasions. He is not in pain and has no fever. The doctor explained that this could be from scar tissue as this is the third device. During the pocket revision he attempted to remove some sc...

about tests

Hopefully, Smitty or Electric Frank can answer this. AV node ablation, heart block, single lead to ventrical and my last pacemaker check showed three episodes of high ventricle rates 212 to 226, so I am scheduled for echocardiogram today and the Persantine Gated Myoview scan next week. The nuclear scan is leaving me a little nervous because it seems as tho what is left working in my heart has already been stressed enough. I have had the test before my pm. Have you had it after pm.? Would really...

Had a St Jude pacemaker for five years now and have annual checkups to see how the P M battery is coping
My Question is: - what exactly do they check? And how do they know when to change the P M

Nervous about surgery

Hi folks

I saw the surgoen yesterday and he wants to operate on my foot. I am really nervous about the anaesthetic with a pacemaker. I am waiting for an appt to see the anaesthetist who will assess me. I have a dual lead pacemaker which was given to me because I had sick sinus syndrom with third degree av block. Before my pm. each time I had surgery I would feel as if my whole system went down a notch and it was harder to recover due to extreme tirednes. Any comment would be a h...

Rate drop response

Just had my first checkup after having the rate drop response turned on. It reported >250 detections in a 3 mth period. I calculated that I was having more than 50 of these detections a day as the usage had increased from 10 to 17%. It also seems to be using up the battery faster as I changed from 5 to 3 1/2 years left. My question is, do you think that any normal person would also have this number of events ? I got the impression from the technician that this was the case. Maybe he didn't comme...
