"shocks"

Hello All,
Just got my PM May 2009, recenty been having what feels like little shock episodes, read some previous posts and sounds like it may be set to high or a lead problem.

So where do I start? I am going to contact Dr on Monday, should I request an xray so they can check the leads?

The first night they put in a external PM and went through my jugular (with the leads) - the next day they did the internal PM and the Dr did have a hard time with one of the leads (...

scar question

Hi
I joined this group to get info for my mother in law, hope that is OK. She's 75(ish) and was experiencing dizziness, checked herself into the hospital on Thursday and by Sunday was sporting a new pacemaker.

Apparently although her BP is high and she's been on a medication for that, her heart rate was in the low 50s and in the 40s when she stood. So they decided that the pm was the way to go.

She's still having spells of lightheadedness, five days later, but the main...

Finally I find others!

Hi everyone in the in the world seemed to know somebody with a pm apart from me! It's been a lonely year.
Had mine fitted nearly a year ago and I am pleased to say it seems to be in control. I just wondered my pm had to be resited a few weeks ago because, it was so painful and started to try and come out of my skin. Has anybody else had this? I am worried as I ride horses alot and everybody seems to blame it on this! It still feels like somebody has there foot on my shoulder but, hey I...

Weird Pain

Ok, I know I tend to have a lot of weird pains but this one is stranger then most. I have found now that when I lift my left arm or move it behind me (like just to reach into my pocket) I get a jolt through my heart. I had a dual lead pacemaker installed on 3/09 and have not had this type of pain previously. The chest pains I have had in the past that were odd were found to be the meds that I was on at the time. But this is the first one that I have found to be related to specific movements....

Irregular Beats 3 weeks after Implant

I'm a little concerned. It has been 3 weeks and a 3 days since they implanted with a Saint Jude 2 lead pacemaker for my second degree heart block. Everything seemed fine up till about an hour ago when I sensed an irregular beat. A couple fast then a gap couple fast. It pretty much straightened out after a little while.

Can anyone give me advice about what is going on. Could it be a lead problem?

Lead Failure

I have a pacemaker (biotronik with philos II DR leads). I was told I have a possible lead facture. They have tried 2 reprogramings and the 2nd doesn't seem like it is working. They want to add another set of wires. I'm a very active 42 year old mom of twins...I cannot have another wire malfunction. I've had cardiomyopathy, heart failure and suffered bradycardia (resting bpm 39) 6 years post diagnosis. Has anyone had something like this? What risks are involved if they add another set of w...

pacemaker algorithms are crap

I had my pace maker adjusted to the teeth. After the first three months, I had a period of six month adjusting roughly once every two months. Not to mention the trips to the hospital. Finally it was adjusted by a group of physicians while I was connected to an echo cardiograph. That process took several hours of taking samples and running the data in a computer program then changing the adjustments.
I am a software engineer that write kernel code and worked on embedded system for over 15 y...

motion detector and adaptive is crap

I had my pacemaker in 2006. I was pacing 1% of the time but now I am completely dependent on it. The adaptive algorithm that medtronics has implemented is very crappy and needs to be removed since it creating more problems than it is fixing.
Medtronics should really abide by KISS in this case.
What is ever worse is the implementation of the motion sensor that kept me up all night. Every time I toss and turn in bed at night it brings my plus up. I had the creature feature turned off.

Effect of antihistamines while on Sotalol

Does anyone else have this problem? I have a pacemaker for paroxymal a-fib and take Sotalol. I am finally realizing that certain over-the counter, as well as prescription antihistamines can cause my heart rate to play games -- going at 79-89 bpm rather than the 69. I do have rate response turned on and don't want to be permanently set at 69 when I hike, etc. I am 71.
Does anyone else have this occur??? Suggestions for natural antihistamines that won't do this?? Thanks.

not sure what i should feel

at the risk of sounding stupid...............I had my pacemaker implanted 2 weeks ago, i have begun to feel really hard pounding at times (often several times a day), I thought this was the feeling of pacing and that I should be feeling this but from the comments I read it doesn't sound like I should be feeling this strong of pounding heart beats??? any thoughts?? This is not a tingling feeling it is a hard pounding that actually kept me awake for more than 2 hours straight las night, also now h...

I think I am losing my mind

I have been sick for a little over 2 years now. I have had 3 ablations and 2 failed attemps. This was for ROVT. So needless to say the prob;em continued. I had a 30 day moniter put on because I started passing out again. In goes a pacemaker for Sinus Node Dysfunction. Apparently I would go from a very fast tach and then it would go to a-fib. UGGGHH! So I thought the new pacemaker on July 9th was going to fix al this.2 weeks after surgery all the same things started comming back again. My blood p...

Yet another kind of pain

One week after my PM fitting, I've been getting this weird pain inside my right rib cage. (My PM is on the left, just under the collar bone.)

Yesterday morning I felt some discomfort along the inside of the right lower rib cage (liver should be on that side too). 3am this morning I woke up with it getting worse, moving up the right side inside, midway. It feels like sharp shooting pain but gets worse when I breath just bit more deeply. If I sit up, the pain is mostly at lower rig...

Technology similar to spinal cord implants?

I do not have a pacemaker, but I have a spinal cord stimulator implant by Boston SCientific. Research indidcates this was made possible after pacemakers and utilizes similar technology.

After a bad car wreck and l0 back surgeries, the doctors finally asked me if I wanted a morphine pump or a spinal cord stimulator. I prefer to be drug free thank you very much. However, during bad weather I am having great problems - particularly during electrical storms. I get shocked. Live nea...

Three Lead Device Questions

I have had a three lead CRT-D device by Boston Scientific for less than a week. My left ventricle lead is turned off due to irritating the phrenetic nerve and my diaphragm. It is implanted inside an artery.

My tech says it is unlikely it will settle in, if it hasn't by now. My doctor is asking me to wait four more weeks and try again.

I also have had an awful time mentally and emotionally acclimating to this invasion of my chest and my life. I keep sensing it humming throug...

Boston Scientific Pacemaker Questions

Please help. I have had Pacemaker 2 wks and don't know much about all of this. I am set at 60 and 130. Yesterday I got pulse or heart rate readings, don't know which, on our blood pressue machine of 49, 46, and 41. Dr. said to go to ER. ER got readings in the 50's, 40's, and low of 38. Pacemaker guy came out and 5 hrs later read me no lower than 60-pacemaker perfect. He said those low readings are kind of artifcacts or false readings. Does this make sense?

He said I am having...

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
