ICD shocked?

I am a new patient to an ICD, and I have read some horror stories out there, and was wondering if anyone can share with me, if they were shocked. I am told that it feels like a horse kicked you, not that one has ever kicked me.

But I am more worried, on where it will happen, and how the people around me will react, during a meeting or in church. Is it embarrassing? I am more worried about that.

TIA

Seeking advise for Mother worried....

Hello everyone!! What a wonderful forum! Thanks for your time and energy!

I will try and make this as short as possible. I am very worried about my Mother. I'll try and make a long story short. She is 82 years young and up until 6 months ago a very, active independant woman.

6 Months ago she was DX with afid then 4 months ago began breaking vertabra in her back. Ended up with 7 vertbroplasties. During these painful 4 months her a fib went wild and she became intorlerant of...

Bisoprolol

Hi everyone,

I had a 24 hour monitor about 3 weeks ago, because I have been having episodes of tachycardia. Then when I went to see my GP about something different on Thursday, he told me that my cardiologist had sent him a letter asking him to prescribe me bisoprolol. Stupidly, because my mind was occupied with the other matter, I didn't ask to think WHY I'd been prescribed it - when I got home and read the leaflet it said it's for heart failure and angina, but I'm pretty sure I don...

Tikosyn

Hi All,

I had my PM implanted in November 2007. I feel fine...minus the shortness of breath, but I have started working out about 2 months ago...and feel even better. However, when the PM was first implanted, I was being paced about 20% of the time. When I went for my last two check-ups, it now appears that I am being paced 100%. My doc says that this can be fairly common. Since I feel fine, except for some shortness of breath that I can overcome if I just keep exercising, my doc reco...

Neurologist and heart health

Has anyone here discovered a connection between our nervous systems and our heart issues? The more I research the more they seem very connected.

What got me thinking about this was my newest diagnosis of spouts of inappropriate tachycardia. It doesn't happen all the time. Just pretty much when I m upright!. For example, if I am on the couch...I'm fine. RHR is well within normal range. But if I get up and go to the bathroom for example-my RHT will hit the 100's or 140's at school walki...

Cough and fluid

I just had my first pacemaker implanted last week. I am taking Verapamil and Sotalol. I have developed a cough with lots of phlegm. I am wondering if anyone else experienced this or if I may have just picked up some type of chest cold while at the hospital. I am going to my primary care physician tomorrow to get checked but I am a little concerned.

Mitro Valve Prolapse

Does anyone have experience with this? My GP had me lay on my left side and said he heard it. Said it was nothing to worry about. Had an echo done several weeks later and it didn't show.

Have been trying to get to the bottom of "what" I am feeling. I am frustrated and feel like I am not being heard. I have worn 2 halters already and PVC's, PAC's and skips showed up. No MVP.

But it really doesn't help me. At times when I feel my pulse, I can feel a slight pause. Doctor said...

Internist Checkup

Well I just came back from my monthly visit with my internist. I was concerned because I am still experiencing some lightheadiness since getting he pacemaker on 2/4/10. Well at the last visit she explained it may be caused by my circulatory system adjusting to my higher heart rate. Today she did a cardiogram, heart rate is 70, and is stopping my hydrochlorthiazide ( water pill) and potassium supplement. The water pill can cause lightheadiness and we will see if this helps.

She also wa...

New to the Club

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the Pacemaker Club. I am 55 years old and received my pacemaker 11/19/09 after being diagnosed with bradycardia. I do not know my "official" diagnosis, i.e. sick sinus, etc. I just know I was fine most of the time but began experiencing palps with passing out beginning in February 09. After many trips to the ER and my physician, who told me everything looked fine, my boss finally put me in touch with his cardiologist after an episode here at work, and aft...
