Thanks to E-Frank & Bowlrbob

Just wanted to send a general "Thanks" for continuing to provide us with information on our PM settings and what they mean to our feelings of well-being. I am referring to your recent responses on "Rate Drop" and "Rate Response" questions. Good info in easily understood language is always appreciated. ThankYou,

Toprol XL

Hello

I had my PM put in June 2006. In June 2007 I was put on Toprol XL(1/2 tab 50mg or 25mg dose). In Dec 2007 that was increase to a full tab or 50mg dose once per day.
They wanted to help control my irregular beat as well as help lower my resting heart rate as it is higher than normal.(80' & 90's). I wondered how many of you are on Toprol.

The reason for my PM Install they discover I had a condition that would caused my heart to "pause" which also caused my MVC (Mo...

Irregular pulse after walking....

Hello Everyone,

I had my PM put in last June of '07. Just recently I began walking a little a the school behind my home. Only on level land on the sidewalk.

Well, yesterday evening, I decided to walk further. I strolled about twice as far as usual and a little bit of it was uphill.

Since completing the walk I have had irregular heart beats. Feels like flutters and skips off and on. Today is a little better, but, I still have them off and on.

I had the...

Is there any scheduled chat times, or are chats just when folks just happen to meet up in the room? Thanks!

Helping my Dad

Hi I am 73 years old female and I had a pacemaker put in in Feb. 2007 because I had atrial fibrillation and palpitations which I tried to take medication for for about 5 months. I ended up with an ablation which stops the feeling of the afib but it is still happening so I have to be on coumadin to thin my blood in case of blood clots. I am 100% dependent on my pacemaker. My Dr. told me if I get shot and the bullet hits the pacemaker and saves my life I will be dead because the pacer will be...

Ealizing recovery is longer than anticipated

Thank you to all who posted about helping my Dad. I am realizing that there is more to his recovery than initially expected, especially because he is 77! He has 3 leads and a defibulator. Many peole mentioned settings?? I don't recall them saying anything about that at his follow up appt. He just received a machine in the mail. I think I need to really read up on that and understand how it works. I think he thought in 3 weeks he would be back to normal. I don't think so anymore. I am going to re...

HAPPY EASTER

Easter is a wonderful day for all. A day created for all men and women of this world. We tend to celebrate it in different ways, but for me, I celebrate it with being the day my Lord has resurrected from the dead. For that day brought a gift to all who live on this earth. A day of hope has been given to us all. May Angel's come to watch over our children as they hunt for eggs. May you find peace at a local church. May your hands be touch by the spirit of the Lord. May your heart continue to bea...

How soon to return activity to "normal"?

Hello,

While reading through many posts it appears many patients have received different directions on how to deal with post-op activities. I was told after receiving my pacemaker not to lift my left arm over my shoulder for 4 weeks and no more than 4 pounds. I am nearly at the 4 week mark. However, many folks seem to have received information not to lift their arm for something like 6 - 8 weeks. I don't want to be overly cautious, but I don't want to do anything that will disturb...

lead "redo"

i'm back from hospital after what the ep called a "redo" to re-position one of the 3 wires he placed in my heart last month with the ICD. one original lead had migrated and i was not getting the pacing feature. he said the "redo" took longer than the original.
it's too early for me to tell whether the "redo" worked. i'm still tired and groggy and a little sore. i go back to ep in 2 weeks for checkup. i'm hoping i have better news on this followup than after the first one.
has anyone el...

I have been short of breath for several years of smoking stupid I know. I haven't had one sence Jan 15. The only real question I want to know is does anyone make a remote for this thing, if they do please don't tell my wife she wants one so she zap me like dog with a shock collar. LOL

NEWBIE

Hello, I just joined the group! I have had a pacemaker since 2002. I have been searching for something or someone to talk with about my pacemaker because it does feel like after you get one put in no one fills you in on what could happen or how you may feel. Finding this website and reading everyone elses stories has really helped me. Now I know I'm not the only one out there having some of the same systoms talked about here. Thanks to all you who will open up and talk. It may take me a littl...

What is rate response? Off/On?

Okay, I am a newbie. 3 weeks since my pacemaker implant. I am trying to decipher all the jargon... what is "rate response"? And why would it be turned off or on? Sorry to be clueless, if there is somewhere on the website that will explain this please direct me! Thank you.

It does seem I am not alone in not receiving adequate educational information about this technology I have in my body. What is the deal anyway? My hubby is a heart patient (cholesterol/blockage problems) and they hav...
