Sudden Drop in HR During Exercise

For the last couple of months I've experienced a reduction in HR from 120-130 to the lower limit of 60 set on my PM during exercise. It usually happens in the 1 1/2 -2hr range and I have ton stop. My doc and the Boston Sci tech couldn't explain it. Has anyone had this happen and if so do you have an explanation? Thanks

Freediving

Hi all...just checking in an asking if anyone has learned to Freedive with their pacemaker and any issues with that..? For those that dont know what Freediving is, it is the recreation of learning breath holding and allowing the diaphragm to control breathing underwater.Using flippers to control movement or just sitting there using an anchored rope to go down and up and other styles.Essentially its breath control in a situation underwater where complete control is nece...

Exercise Machines Restricting PM?

Hello all,

Haven't posted a new question in a while (which is progress!), but I am noticing some weird exercise trends that I am unsure of.

Had my Medtronic Azure implanted in early Sept. Also have a mechanical aortic valve. Things have been going good, for the most part. My BPM when sitting around and doing nothing can range anywhere from 70-90, which has been my normal for quite some time.

I noticed lately while up and walking around the house, I am able to get it up t...

Topping out?

Hi,

I bike on a trainer and do intervals. This morning I noticed that 40 secs after I did a really hard 45+ sec intervals my hr went from @130 to @158 and stayed there for @30 seconds before dropping back down. I let my hr drop down below 120 in between intervals, fwiw.

Anyway, I'm 74 and have two questions--Anyone else have this sort of delayed response? (I thought my device was set for a 15 sec response) and Am I endangering myself for questionable results?

I'...

Looking for EP cardiologist that specializes in PM settings for younger/active patients

HI,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend an EP in Atlanta, GA that they know of who sees regularly, younger/active/athletic patients. I have a medtroinic Azure XT device placed a year ago for intermittent 2nd to 3rd degree AV block that occurs with exercise. I have been struggling to get the settings of the pacemaker right and I have seen 2 different EP's but they both comment that they mainly seeing older patients so usually it isn't so hard to get the settings right...

Pacemaker and weightlifting question. I’m lost. Let’s settle this question once in for all.

I have been lifting weights for one year and this lifestyle has saved my life from my severe mental health. Unfortunately I learned not too long ago that I have an AV block, not severe but I'm recommended to have a pacemaker implantation.  I can do any exercise like anybody else have and I don't have any symptoms. I search online about weightlifting with a pacemaker and I get mixed answers and information, although I have come across a man who is a serious weightli...

Exercising with a pacemaker

Hi I am new, 41 year old female, just got approved for a Biotronik pacemaker which will be fitted on 30th Nov. Nothing wrong with my heart itself, but had a brain injury 7 years ago which left me with severe autonomic dysfunction. I pass out and am presyncopal much of the time due to low HR and low BP althouth the latter is relatively normalised on fludrocortisone.

Exercise has been my saviour since my accident, paradoxically I am more active than before it, and feel best whe...

G Force - V8 super cars

Hi All,

I hope everyone is happy and healthy. I just thought you guys would be the best person to ask. I am wanting to do a V8 Supercar hot lap around Mount Panorama New South Wales Australia.  The car will go up to 200km to 300 km an hour, it will pull two G's around corners.

I am 50 years old female,  100% paced, complete heart block,   leaking mitral valve and Hashimoto's disease . My cardiologist said I can jump out of an aeroplane. B...

Heart rate is not maxing out during exercise.

I had my second PM installed in March 2021.

No issues until October 1st when my Apple Watch reported an average of 138 bpm.  That rate has declined since then and now when I run, my HR per my Apple Watch is averaging 132 +/- while my PM is set for a max HR of 150.

I went in and had the device checked and the tech said all was good.  He increased the response rate but I do not see how that would help.

I've run twice since then and my Apple Watch repo...

Winded walking up hill

Got my pacemaker March 1 2020 right before Covid.  I was 66 asymptotic but my heart rate was below 30 so Dr said it was time.  Before implant I was doing 30mins a day on elliptical - no problem.  After the implant I have to take 15-20 sec breaks intermittently while exercising.  We're on our first trip then and I had to take several breaks while walking uphill - the group I'm with is my age and the other 5 had no problem.  I've spoken to my EP an...

Programing

This morning I spent a fair amount of time at the devise clinic with a programmer. I had my ICD installed just over a year ago and getting back to exercise has been a challenge.

Prior to all this I trained between 10-12 hours per week for Triathlons. Over a two year period my performance and ability to maintain this level dimished until i ended up in the hospital from passing out.

I have sarcoidosis which has landed in my heart complicating things even further.

When I e...

Athletic endurance after Pacemaker

I had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted in early June (3 1/2 months ago) for complete heart block with no other heart conditions. My device is a Medronics W1DR01 Azure XT DR. These are the setting according to the tech (50 - 140).

I'm 68 years old, before the implant would walk for an hour 3-4 day a week, and bike ride a few hours 2-3 or days. I gradually started back walking and biking after the implant. My endurance is not what it was before the implant. When I walk I notice that...

Electric bikes

Wondering if electric bikes are safe for our devices?  I've read that electric cars are, but the battery packs for the bikes are out on the open and have to be charged by standing by them.  Please help, don't want to invest the big bucks if I can't use.

Fatigue feeling when running and increased asthma

Hi, I have had my PM now for six months now. I am 46 and pretty fit, running and cycling regularly. The PM was implanted as a response to episodes of bardycardia. I have noticed recently feelings of heavy fatigue when exercising and that my asthma has flared up more frequently. I don't know whether this is directly related to the PM or is due to some other elements but am interested if anyone else has experienced similar.

Re: weight liftin

Hello,

I am 55 year old male who recently had a pacemaker implant in May of this year.  Its been nearly 4 months since the procedure.  Prior to  that, I had been lifting some weights.   Will I be able to resume weightlifting by benching (smith machine), doing dumbell curls, and Lat pulldowns?

Exercise

Hi after six weeks post pacemaker I am told by the technician that I can do light breast stroke swimming and gentle jogginng, not cycling yet as where I live is full of very long steep hills. Is there any guidance on exercise regimes for people who like to exercise and keep fit at this stage in my recovery. I used to do yoga with lots of upper body stretching etc - I am guessing this is out of the question and if so, is it for ever?

recent pacemaker insertion

I was recently diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome based on EKG and 30 day event monitor. I am a long term endurance athelete. My heart rate dropped down to 29 BPM, though I felt no symptoms. I saught consult as my heart rate stopped going to target rates while running and biking and having to back off of my workouts. It seems that things happened very quickly and before I knew it, I was having a medtronic PPM implanted. I did not know that it was reactive to motion and not my b...

running - pacemaker upper limit and vtach

Had my pacemaker put in for bradycardia/sic sinus syndrome earlier this year. I run a lot, so was eager to get back to it as soon as possible. On follow-up visits, they noted that my pulse had gone above 200 on a few occasions.

Comparing to my Garmin tracking, it looks like when I run my HR quickly gets up to 140, which is the upper pacing limit for the Pacemaker. Then, it is pegged at 140 for most of my run. BUT, sometimes towards the end of the run my heartrate suddenly cli...
