Pushing out of the skin

Hi all,

I have recently had a new pacemaker implanted (2nd surgery in three years) as my last one pushed its way to the surfave and it became adhered to the skin. There was no infection thank goodness and they had to go in and take it out and re-implant the pacemaker (this time under the chest muscle). The first three months were great then I slipped going down the stairs and it seems as though it is pushing its way to the surface of the skin again! This will be my 3rd pacemaker surg...

An answer?

Hi out there everyone. Great Turkey day but it's the last turkey I'll cook without help, just too heavy and too much to do. Sure tastes good and I love leftovers. I have a question that maybe some of you who know PM and settings can help. Got the Medtronic Consulta CRT-D 3/09 and am disappointed with it in some ways. I was told the shortness of breathe and fatique would be gone after a while. As you can see, it's been 8 mos and they are still with me. Dr. upped the lasix to one a day from every...

Yikes!

Well it has been a month since they put my pacer in. I came home with a nice bandage TAPED to my upper chest/ shoulder. The nice nurse fellow spent a good deal of time shaving my whole chest. So I didn't wonder too much about the irritation under the bandage. Figured it was the operation and the hair growing back. But when I removed the bandage I was RAW from an allergic reaction to the tape. I had a rash from my shoulder to below my pectorial. The rash has gotten less, and the raw areas have...

NEW... trying to understand

Hello all,

I'm a 33 year old woman who had a dual lead Biotronik Cylos DR pacemaker installed on 11/18. There were complications, so I've only been home from the hospital a couple days. Now I'm trying to figure this thing out! I have Sick Sinus Syndrome. Unfortunately, it has taken many doctors a year to figure this out and how to treat it. The pacemaker was the final decision. Although I have gifted doctors, their communication skills are lacking, especially on a holiday week :)

However here at the Pacemaker Club we give thanks everyday that we are ALIVE and coping. Yippee!

Lots to be thankful for

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone that is celebrating.. I hope it is a wonderful thanksgiving. I know that this year I have a lot to be thankful for... including this really expensive piece of metal in my chest. It has been a long year with heart issues... and I am thankful that today things are going pretty well. It was just two years ago that I sat in the hospital on thanksgiving unable to enjoy a single bite of turkey dinner. I hope everyone takes the time to be thankful this year for all th...

H1N1

So, I called to get an appointment to get the H1N1 vaccine...the screening nurse called back and besides not having a clue about what my inplant is, she said that she would have to call back because she "wasn't sure that I have a heart condition". Seriously. Like for real. One of the reasons why I couldn't get an appointment was because I haven't been to my primary since December...I've been to the cardiologist 14 times since July (and had 2 surgeries), but I don't have a "chronic" illness b/c...

ATR & Vtach

Hello Everyone!

Just got back the other day from my six month interrogation for my pacemaker.

I was please to learn that my usage has dropped significantly. Currently, I am only pacing 6% of the time in the ventricles and about 10% of the time in the atrium.

The tech told me after looking at my numbers over the past year, that he didn't see why I still needed my pacemaker. That sounded good to my ears.

Nevertheless, I've learned that you can't get out...

Surgery

Hi Friends,
I went to the new EP yesterday and found out I will need another surgery. My goal is to make it one year without a surgery so I would prefer it after the holidays. My pm will be placed in a net mush bag type thing and stitched into place so it can not move anymore. I will also have my lead from last year that they could not get out taken out.
The issue right now is finding a Dr who does lead extractions in my area. The Dr is searching and will get back to me within...

Pneumo thorax

Just got home from the second pneumothorax event following PM implant less than a week ago. Both times were a 90% lung collapse requiring a chest tube plus vacumn evacuation. I am hoping the "seal" holds this time. I haven't seen comments from any others having had this complication from PM placement. If there are any, please advise what long-term experience has been. The surgeon said that since there was a physical cause e.g. he nicked the lung, the risk for future spontaneous collapses is...
