Several infections post-pacemaker

Hello everyone! Quick question, please let me know your thoughts if you get a free moment : ) I am post pacemaker 8 weeks! The pacemaker site is still EXTREMELY sore and uncomfortable. When I move my arm it hurts (where the pacer is), and then if I do a lot with that arm it begins to shake (almost like tremors). The site is still red and last week was oozing puss and some blood (not a lot). I had bronchitis two weeks ago and have not completely gotten over it and now have a very bad sinus infect...

Not For The Faint of Heart

Ghoulish and not for the fiant of heart.

FROM USA TODAY

MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in northeast Iowa say a man faces charges accusing him of cutting a pacemaker out of his father's chest.

The Delaware County sheriff's office says in a statement Sunday that 32-year-old Jesse Fierstine of Manchester struck his 63-year-old father, Charles Fierstine, on the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood Saturday, then cut the pacemaker from his chest using a...

What happens at death

My mother is 96 years old and has had a pacemaker for
about 12 years. A nephew of hers told her he would never
have one put in because if he died it would not stop beating.
He also told her that she would be put in a room by herself
until the battery died. This was inforced by an Rn who she
met last year. Her battery is getting low and she thinks this
is a good time to die. As you see I need some good info
on what happens after you pass away. The procedure for...

ICD Failure

The defibrillator failed to function when I coded in a hospital elevator [lucky I was in the hospital] The techs from the manufacturer interrogated the device the next day. Now the manufacturer refuses to give us the information from the download. They claim that the battery was deasd?? we know that they got the information as we have been through the interrogation many times. Any ideas how I can force them to give the information??
Thanks and best to everyone

What are these episodes/reactions?

I got in pacemaker 10/09 after a heart attack and surgery resulted in 4th degree blocks. I seemed to be doing well, exercising daily except for the occasional episode. The first time it happened my little dog was in trouble and I got up from sitting, ran to a high fence and climbed it. That was 8 weeks post surgery.

Generally it will happen if I push myself exercising though lately it has happened when I get up at night.

It comes on suddenly though I have a sense it is com...

New leads

Hi
I had my pacemaker put in 5 weeks ago. There is a problem with one of the leads and I have to have it replaced. I've no idea what to expect. Will it be exactly the same as when I had my pace maker fitted or should it be a bit easier and take a bit less time. Also will the recovery be quicker. Anyone out there who's had this done can you let me know what to expect. It is a dual chamber pacemaker. Thanks Ali

Judging - A Great Message

Hello my pacer friends. I received this from a colleague and thought it had too good of a message not to share it with everyone.

***************************************

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a homespun
threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked timidly into
the Harvard University President's outer office and asked for an appointment.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods,...

pace maker Dependent

I hope someone can answer a question for me. My son was pace maker dependent and had to AV node ablation. He passed away suddenly two weeks ago. How could his heart just stop beating if the pace maker was doing the beating for it. he was fine and suddenly couldn't breath and was gone within an hour.
If anyone could help me understand this I would appreciate it so much. I was in to much shock at the time to ask the ER dr and now I can't seem to find him.
Thank You for any help you may h...

Getting PM adjusted...again

I had my pacemaker adjusted this past Wednesday for the first time. The goal was to help me sleep better. Well, it didn't work. Still woke up many times during the night and still felt a "flicking" sensation in my chest.

So, my doctor wants to see me again this afternoon. I hate missing so much work. I'm going to have to come in on the weekend just to catch up.

Very frustrated at this point and the doctor is already talking about putting me on sleeping pills, which I'd...

Replace or Reposition lead?

Hi Fellow Pacers,
I received my PM a wk ago and was told the next day that the bottom lead had moved. I know that this really isn't that rare after reading the posts here. My question is can the lead be repositioned or must it be replaced? I am sure the Dr will explain it to me on Monday but it has been a long week I can't seem to quit thinking about it.
I will let you know how my first visit goes. What questions should I ask other than the obvious lead question?
I hope you have...

Pacer replacement

Am approaching the time to replace my pacemaker for the first time. Need some honest answers about recovery. How long does it take before you feel ok? How long before you can drive? Any other restrictions? I'm trying to figure out when would be a good time to get it done but have two kids with multiple activities so have to weigh all options.
Thanks,
Lori

Another Joke to make you smile

A young boy walks into the candy store.... he asked the store owner for 3 boxes of chocolates, a 1lbs,2lbs,and 3lbs. The store owner asked, why three boxes?

Well I am going to my girlfriends tonight and if she lets me put my arm around her I will give her the 1lbs box, if she lets me kiss her on the cheek I will give her the 2lbs box and if she lets me kiss her on the lips over and over again passionately I will give her the 3lbs box. The store owner smiled and gave the boy the boxe...

"heart" burn?

I started having a burning sensation right over my heart maybe in the esophagus. I saw some posts from awhile ago dealing with this, and my doctor also said it was acid reflux.I'm 58 years old and I never had heart burn, not even when I was pregnant. It just started right after getting the PM. If it is nerve stimulation as one of the posts suggested, is there something that should/could be done? I've been popping antacids like candy. And I really don't like to fill my system with unnecessary m...

Pacer self check

I was going to reply to the question of the self check below but it has already gone way down the page, so I thought I would post a new message. I have my self check set at 09:45 on a Tuesday. I like it then as I am aware when it happens and I know that my PM is still working. Every now and then I may be doing something active at this time such as a bodypump class. I still feel it kick in at the same time, but something tells the pacemaker check that this is not a good time. The check stopss and...

Been in Santa Fe for a week now

Hiked to a little over 8000ft so far and feel great. Going on up to Pagosa Springs and Durango Co. tomorrow and will get a lot higher (altitude, not substances). Got a little short of breath on our first few day hikes (in Florida our house is only 58 ft above sea level), but absolutely no SVT's or anything else that I can detect so far. This new Medtronic has been a huge improvement so far. Will be getting a PM check in a few weeks when I get back, but so far I expect a good result. My best to y...
