Happy Mother's Day to all! I haven't been on for awhile. I've been fighting a nasty staph infection on my leg, and been feeling lousy.Anyway, have a wonderful day!

I finally found a new doctor that I can relate to. Answered all of my questions on the very first visit.
Funny thing, my wife didn't care for him much??
Here is some of the great advice he gave!

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on...

Hi! I'm new to the site. I'm 87 and trying to decide whether or not to get a pacemaker. My heart rate is usually in the 50's and I'm tired a lot - doing less and less. I rarely sleep through the night. I have high blood pressure and know that some of my medications may also cause me to feel tired and sometimes dizzy and faint. I'm worried about complications and how it feels to live with a pacemaker. It would be a blessing if some of the pacemakers could help me with your experience - especiall...

Had a great two weeks in Santa Fe NM with side trips to Taos, Pagosa Springs, Co and Durango, Co. Got lucky with 2 weeks of cool sunny weather. Perfect for hiking, etc. PM check on the 19th. So far this new one has been great. Happy spring time to you all up north!

Coping with the heat
Hey Ya'll
It 6:00p.m. in south Texas. It is 100 degrees out right now. I have tried to stay in as much as I can because the heat is really pushing my heart rate up. It is usually between 74-84bpm. For about the last week or so with this heat I have been running between 98 & 128bpm No exertion involved. It is just too hot (it's only May). Any advice from anyone on what I can do to get my heart rate down?

Have any of you tried omega 3 supplementation to lower your heart rate? I just received an e mail from my EP in Cleveland Clinic suggesting that I try this before my total sinus node ablation, which is supposed to happen soon. She says that it's worked in animals, but apparently there's no evidence it works in humans. Do you know about this?
Thanks,
Meredith

Just read the following in newspaper so the time to break out those lead lined undies is getting closer. While you are at it you might want to get a foil lined parasol for the pacemaker
The sun is moving into a busier period for sunspots. Forecasters expect a relatively mild outbreak by historical standards, but one major solar storm can cause havoc with satellites and electrical systems.

Hi Everyone,
I am new here. I had SVT for the past 11 years. I finally was approved for an ablation procedure which I was told would cure my rapid heartbeat. During the ablation the EP said he got too close to a nerve and I ended up with 3rd degree heartblock and had to get a pacemaker. I got the pacemaker in 2/09, and am still feeling noticeably out of breath. I am 46 years old and could do much more before the pacemaker. The docs keep saying the PM is fine, but I don't feel fi...
What brings on an a-fib

I am frustrated. I have had 2 a-fibs recently each 7 hours in length. One awakening from a nap and the other awakening in the a.m. I take Sotalol 160mg in a.m. and 120 mg. in pm.
Today I did a lot of cleaning up and putting away of winter clothes - wrestling with hangers, etc., and nary an a-fib. What causes an a-fib when I am doing "nothing" ? Thanks for any tips. I have a St. Jude pacemaker installed in 2006.

I have had a pm [medtronic] for 6 weeks and suddenly developed a consistent muscle twitch in my leg (inner thigh area) after my first pm check-up on 05/01. The twitch is not painful but I can feel it and see it. Does anyone have any experience with muscle twitiching - am I being paranoid or is it just a coincidence that the twitching started on the same day my pm was checked? The twitching has been consistent for 6 straight days.
Thank you!

Last night. I got my event monitor hooked up, had 2 episodes this morning (1 was picked up w/out help from me), and I almost broke it twice this morning w/ in 30 seconds. Pray for me today; not necessarily to get better (although that would be a nice perk), but so that I don't loose what little sanity I have!!! *yawn* I only got 6 hours of sleep last night... Oh, and the Little Box of Hell (LBH) makes the most obnoxious noise EVER!!! So embarassing...
Okay, well I'm done whining today...

Has anyone had any nerve damage due to an ablation or other surgery? My nerve was damaged in a sinus node modification and only one side of my diaphragm is working now. The doctor said it could take a while to heal. I can not lay flat because I get so short of breath. I just got a pacemaker last week and still trying to get used to that. This just makes matters worse. Anyone know how long this will be like this?
