Does your child get his pacer checked by telephone?

I was wondering if anyone has their childs pacer checked by telephone. I know for sure that they do that with adults, but I was wondering about kids. If so, when did they start doing that? And is it because he/she is in complete heart block and they are doing that for extra checks between appointments? We are currently at every 6mo with the EP. We will see her in April, so I'll ask about it then also. But, I was just wondering... And I was wondering how many parents of children with pacers...

Doctor's visit

Hi All

Just been to visit the doctor. I am at present living in France and that is where my PM was inserted by the cardiologist here. There was no explanation as to what I was to expect or feel. I have written before here saying how stressed I am now that my heart is beating faster.

Anyway, saw the doc and explained my concerns albeit that I broke down and started crying. He said that he was going to check with the cardiologist as to what sort of pacemaker I have...

Hope this isn't a dumb question

I am not sure if this has been answered recently but I am wondering if u can originally be in complete heart block when u were first diagnosed as needing a pacemaker and then over a period of time not be in complete heart block anymore?? Last time I had my pacer check-I have had mine since Oct /06-the nurse seemed surprised cause I wasn't in complete heart block anymore. I don't understand -is this good, bad, or mean nothing??

Keeping things in context

I had to post this message because I saw my name mentioned in a post about the Wii gaming system. I only write this message because we have had a lot of drama on the site recently due to peoples' words being taken out of context etc. I already posted a message about this under the Wii post, but I think it would do us all good to remember in the future that we shouldn't "call people out" in posts when we have questions that need answers or a clarification of something we've read. We should ju...

Medtronic Rep

I had surgery yesterday(01/23/08)to repair an inguinal hernia. The surgery was scheduled for 7 am and before that the Medtronic Rep was there to check out my pacer before surgery. This is not my first surgery since having my pacer(installed in 1997)and they have always been there. Maybe it's routine for them but just wanted to put in a good word. Thanks Medtronic!!!

Wii?

Ok, I heard from ela-girl that a Wii's infrared will interfere with a PM. I'm not doubting her, but I just wondered if it was true.

flutters

Got my pacemaker a week ago and feeling crap. Heart rate was 30 beats resting but now set to 60.

My trouble is when getting up or walking out it feels as though I have just run a mile. Heart racing and feels like fluttering in the stomach.

Doctor says I am anxious and this is causing the extra beats which I am now getting.

Any suggestions

Julie

Does anybody know??

Does anyone know what the "ADL" setting is on the PM readout sheet? Mine is set at 95. I tried to ask the doctor but he just said in essence "never mind it's not important". In nursing lingo "ADL" refers to "Activities of Daily Living". Any help from all you PM gurus out there would be appreciated. Your Pacer Friend, Carol

Decision not to get pacemaker replaced

Are we allowed to make the decision not to get our pacemakers replaced when the batter wears out? I was asked this by a friend and did not know the answer.

Regardless of the consiquenses, do we have the right just to let it run out of battery and let nature take it's course?

flutters in stomach

One week on and still getting flutters in stomach when I walk out on the road with shoes on. Sounds weird but in the house in slippers no such feeling. Do you think it could be me being heavy footed and the pacemaker not embedded yet?

Anyway,,john ...your doctor will give you the best specific advice for your particular condition.but in my experience(PM inseted for long sinus pauses MAR 07)I wouldn't worry about running for the first two weeks.Give the wound time to heal and let the pacemaker set in physically an...

Magnets?

Does anybody know the exact effects of riding a rollercoaster that has a magnetic breaking system? I've looked online but have not been able to find any definitive answers. the articles I found say to stay away from magnets but none of them detail why and what the effects are if you don't.
I have a particular fondness for rollercoasters and have been advised not to ride any that have magnets. If I must deprive myself I would at least like to know why?
Can anyone help me?

*I don't know how to explain this*

but I will give it a shot...I was happily reading the postings this morning ,when my heart felt like it stopped... just to put you in the picture this is quite normal for me probably about three times a week or more ... I think it is when I have a couple of ectopics close together and it almost starts a run of VT's. I explained this to my cardio nurse and she was inclined to agree she says it depends on "where" these ectopics fall???
for those who don't know my situation health wise... I h...

Heart rate

My ICD is set to deliver “therapy” (don’t you love that term) at 195 bpm. Well I have to run for work, when I do run I wear a Polar heart monitor to keep track of my heart rate. My question is while Im running if my heart rate hits 195 will I get zapped? The nurse told me I have 2, I guess fail safe features to protect against un-needed therapy. If my heart gradually rises and is steady I should be safe. Its not that I don’t believe her, I just would like to know if anyone has heard of this or s...

Please could everyone pray for my father Kenneth

My father had a heart attack 2 weeks ago. He is fighting brain cancer.

At the moment I am unable to go to work because it is taking my mother, sister and myself 24 hours a day to try and get him back on his feet.

Any prays or healing thought for my father would be welcome.

Many thanks

Love Debbie
