Letter at airport?

The last time I travelled thru the airport, the security 'lady' asked for a letter confirming I had a pacemaker fitted. I told her that I had travelled lots since fitting and had never been asked before. She told me in no uncertain that I had better have one next time! I told her she could get a feel of my lump! ;)
Have any other UK residents had this? I've got a battered photocopy of a Euro Patient ID card, what do others have?

Cheers,
Adam.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP

My Mothers ex gardiner who is aged 83 has Atrial Fibrillation and is quite breathless. He has collapsed 3 times. His cardiac doctor who is well known, very experienced and greatly respected told him that he needed a pacemaker. However this has been overuled by his superior who told him that he did not need a pacemaker. I have examined him myself and I am convinced he needs a pacemaker. He is quite rightly worried to death. His wife has a heart condition also and she is totally dependant on him....

I today saw my MP who is very interested in the poor provision for cardiac pacing in the UK and is going to raise the question
in the House Of Commons soon. I believe he has had atrial fibrillation himself so I hope it becomes his pet subject. Ive got my pacemaker so im happy. I just want to help others not so lucky. Cheers Peter

MRI

My dad has back problems and terrible pain, but since he has a pacemaker the doctors say they can't do an MRI to find out what's going on and they can't do surgery without doing an MRI. Has anyone with a pacemaker had this problem with a medical condition requiring an MRI? Any suggestions? I hate to see him in so much pain and it seems like there must be some kind of a solution. Thanks for your help!

National Wear Red Day Feb.1st

February 1st is National Wear Red Day

I feel very strongly about raising awareness about heart disease. Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women (and men), but the good news is heart disease can often be prevented.

Wear your favorite red clothes or accessory - a red blouse, a red dress pin, a fabulous red handbag - put on red lipstick, or sport a red tie and red socks. Go red in your own fashion to show your support for women and the fight ag...

pacemaker edge

Hi all,
I have noticed that when I put my left arm straight up beside my ear(i.e swimming)that the edge of my pacemaker is clearly visible through the skin on the side of my peck so it kind of sticks out on my left side.
Has anyone else noticed that this happens to them?
Cheers
Pete

Low Pulse

The low setting on my pacemaker is 60. I was feeling really rotten earlier today, so I decided to check my blood pressure. It was 90/40 and my pulse was 35. The low blood pressure is not unusual for me, but I thought that the low pulse was very odd considering the settings on my PM. I checked a couple more times to be sure that the reading was accurate, and it was well below 60 each time. This isn't normal, is it? Could there be something wrong with my PM?

Airport Security

When you go through airport security does everyone show their card? or just when they walk through and set off the alarm? I walk through and have not set off an alarm yet, just curious to see what everyone else does. I don't know anyone that has a PM so I don't know what the Standard Operating Procedure is. Thanks. Cold Feet

I have always suffered from cold feet at nights. When I got my pacemaker my problem seemed to get worse. The problem of being cold gradually crept up my legs to my knees. I have also noticed that my left leg is actually 2cm bigger around than my right. I wonder if this is anything to do with my pacmaker if the lower setting is now too low to cope. lowest rate is 50bpm. Just a thought. Or is it the GO disease (getting old.) Cheers Billie

Does anyone know...

A distant and elderly family friend has suffered from a heart attack. He has had triple bypass surgery and a pacermaker fitted some time ago. He was unconcious when he recieved treatment and then placed on life support. The life support has now been removed ( he is still in an unconcious state - not expected to recover), the family are expecting him to pass away.
My questions are.... Is the pacemaker still keeping him alive? Do the doctors turn it off or slow it down so that nature ta...

ID Bracelets

Do any of you have ID bracelets for your kids? If so, at what age did you get it for them? My son is almost 17 months. And I was thinking, maybe I should get one so that he gets used to wearing it for when he gets older. And then my next question would be, what information did you put on it. My son is on meds, but they can change or get discontinued, so I was thinking of putting the Walgreens phone number that we always use for all of his meds? And then, his pacer is set for VVI 80, but th...

Tachycardia

I found out during my last PM interrogation that I was having episodes of tachycardia. These episodes were not present before the PM and are causing very uncomfortable sensations and symptoms. Is this normal? I am unable to take meds for the tachy because of my low blood pressure. Am I in store for an ablation or other invasive procedure?
I am scheduled to see my doc again on Friday to see if the episodes are posing any sort of threat. Any questions that you can suggest I ask her would be...

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
