Newbie needing info on CHf and PM

Hi, I'm Brenda. Soooo glad I found this site!!! I am 54, had a heart attack at 39....dx with DCM in 2002, cancer and radiation in 2007. I have been doing fine til the last couple of years and now I have almost zero energy.

I saw a new cardiologist recently. He ordered a cardiac MRI which I had Monday. Long story short, he said I am a candidate for a CRTD fibrilator (does that sound right?). Option B would be a heart transplant. I have an enlarged heart, LBBB, severe CHF (his wo...

Thanks for encouraging me to go in.

Hey everyone I posted about two days ago about the horrible chest pain I was having. It finally got so bad that they had to call an ambulance to come and get me from work. When I got to the hospital they were really great this time and it wasn't even heart related. That's good news becasue my inusrance will cover it then. I have Pleurisy and and as soon as they gave me a bunch of morphine I felt a lot better. The doctor gave me some prescription pain meds and told me to take it easy.

Cold hands and feet

My hands since my surgery are like ice all the time, is it bad blood flow or medication or both? I cant ever get them warm unless I sit in front of my little electric heater. Such a bummer as I love to ice fish in the winter and now my hands and feet get cold really fast, when my feet get cold Im about done being outside. And walking is ussally ok but god when I have to walk thru any snow or slush I have to stop hundreds of times to rest, I know the cold weather has something to do with it to, I...

They like to be held, talked to, and touched often.

An Infusion of Hope!

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this forum and have had my pm only since 2/25. Its necessity came as a complete shock to me (no pun intended). The mental/emotional changes I've gone through during this process have been greater than the physical ones, but I'm adjusting well I believe, and have benefited from this supportive site.

For anyone who may be depressed about their physical state - or even if you're not - I would encourage you, if you can, to check out today's Oprah show...

Low Ejection Fraction

I am a 50 year old female, 128 pounds, 5'5", used to be very energetic but not much any more. Can a person have a pacemaker (AV Node ablation, 3rd degree heart block), low ejection fraction (40%), mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation (mild to moderate), taking diuretics because of fluid, Wolff Parkinson's White syndrome and palpitations (I think I'm done), and still not have heart failure? They found the low EF and the valve problems with an echo about a month ago but never told me that I ha...

Gray’s Anatomy

Did anyone watch Gray’s Anatomy the other night? One of the patients was in a marching band and had a heart arrhythmia, which caused her to pass-out and have seizures. The doctors implanted an ICD to stop the seizures and potentially save her life. That show got me to thinking about the benefits of my pacemaker.

In 1999, my lead failed due to age. This caused my heart rate to fall to 32. I could barely walk from my bedroom to the living room. I had pains in my side because my o...

unusual fatigue

Well it has been about 3 weeks since starting dofetilide, seems to be controlling some of the AFL as long as I just take it easy. I have been soooooooooo tired though for the past week I thought that it would start to get better but just seems to be getting worse. I thought maybe with the weather change and everything that getting out and about might help but no luck thus far, it almost as if maybe I am heading down a bad spell. What are some of your guys symptoms when your Heart failure is a...

Marathon Runner

I just checked out the www.justgiving.com/hevandjoe website and WOW! what a great race. If anyone hasn't made time to read about our marathon runner, I would like to encourage you to do so. It starts out like this: "Battery Powered Nurse Runs Marathon, Husband Trails in Wake" It's great, I'm sure glad I didn't miss it!

Brookstone Heart Rate Ring Report

I decided to try one of the Brookstone Heart Rate Rings and have had it for a few days. I've put it through some tests and thought some of you would like to know what I found.

The good news is that it one of the most comfortable and easy to use units I've tried. It's basic accuracy is good when I test it against my precision ECG unit as long as I'm sitting still.

The bad news is that it has some serious shortcomings. Even when it is working correctly there is about a 30 sec...

Don't blame the PM

Hi Friends,
I have been going to the EP to get my PM adjusted as I am tired all the time. The EP said my PM was fine, working as it should.
Well last week I got some pretty heavy news, I have myelona.
I have made this posting to tell everyone that not everything that goes wrong is the fault of the PM. I was in great health until I got the PM so I just assumed that was the problem with my health. I hope this posting will be of help to other pacers.
