Pre- ICD Any Advice?
Hello All,
I am new to this site, but have a feeling that we will be here quite a bit. My husband will be receiving his ICD on August 14th. i am doing last minute panic research online. Any advice, do's don'ts. Things we should ask, things we should know? Just know that it will be a Medtronic, that is it.
Taking baby steps, terrified the whole way.
any info, tips, advice, things to be concerned with would be greatly appreciated.

I am from Northern Ireland and have Long QT Type 1. I got a shiny new I.C.D in Nov '06 and I have been scared to return to any sort of proper exercise ever since. I was quite active before my diagnosis but after finding out that my heart condition is triggered by exercise has made me very wary. I have the usual fears of leads being pulled out and inappropriate shocks so my question is..... what sort of exercise do any of you guys do? I have started cycling and walking agai...

Hello there I am a new member would like to know if there are any men who dont like the location of there ICD> Mine is above my left chest and sticks out some. I am a tall 6'7'' guy and really like to work out,. The doctor said I could not work out or play golf or catch for two months. Already dont really care for the way it looks when I wear a T shirt. Question is when I work out will the ICD stick out more. I am not being vain. This is all new to me and would really like to have this question...

Hello there I am a tall 6'7'' 39 year old male. Just had a ICD put in me two months ago. My life has changed so much and now I have so many questions. Find it hard to sleep at different times of the day and evening. I am still young. But this ICD is getting me depressed and man do I worry alot now. If anyone can answer questions that I have which is many. Please do.

hi, I have a bizarre question has anyone experienced problems with their icd after a lightning storm? We had a nasty one that hit a house two doors from mine and caused a huge explosion then fire. Since then my chest has been tight and the icd site has been very painful as if it sending out little electric shocksevery twenty mins or so they only last a second. I went to the hospital and they found nothing on the ekg or blood work. I still feel the pain is icd related not heart but they never lo...

Hi everyone,
Just joined the club. Received my ICD in March, 2007. I'm not happy with it implanted subcutaneously. Hurts. Itches. Gets in the way. In Aug. I talk to the surgeon about the possibility of having it relocated under the pectoral muscle. Have done lots of reading about the pros and cons of the relocation. Okay to drive a motorcycle with ICD?
I've been considering getting an ICD because of my cardiomyopathy and as I was reading posts in this group about all the false positives -- shocks -- people were getting it made my wonder what the heck would happen if I were driving my motorcycle and the PM decides to zap me?
If I get an ICD will I have to give up motorcycles?

Hi there. I have now got a new badge of honour. Yes, my Medtronic ICD was implanted successfully on July 4th 2007. I am grateful to be privileged enough to have such a device, considering the need in this world, just for food for most.

ICD and altitude
Hi everybody ....I had an ICD inserted 3 months ago with no warning. The Dr admitted me immediately to the hospital after a stress echo and I recieved my ICD the next day.
I have ventricular tachycardia. I also successfully had cardioversion for AF while I was under the anaesthetic. I had no pain or problems and recovered quickly and felt really good.

I keep getting what feels like a kick, not at all painful but very weird. It happens on my right side(my implant is on the left), and in my back. Is this a muscel spasam? Has anyone had this? Has Anyone Tried the EPFX/SCIO?
The EPFX/SCIO scans the electromagnetic frequencies of the body similar to the virus-scan on a computer. I had a diagnostic session the other day and while they would not hook me up in the same way they monitored my wife, the session seemed to be helpful just being next to the computer.
My concern is that if they do not want to hook me up in the regular manner, perhaps this tool is not for me. Sad, if so, since it seems to be a remarkable device.

i recieved an icd in dec. of 2006 for which appears to be a viral cardiomopthy. i have since improved about 90%. the problem is that about 11/2 ago i recieved 4 shocks in one day from av node arrhythmia. my doctor said no big deal i will take you into the lab and do ablation. this was about a month ago and i am still feeling awful from it. i have off and on again burnning over my entire chest, i have not been able to wear a bra for a full day has it feels uncomfortable, just overal...
FU airline mechanic with ICD
This is followup from previous posting... from aircraft mechanic with major US airline. Plastic Surgery
Has anyone ever had any plastic surgery done perhaps some kind of fat filler around the ICD to minimize the appearance of the "lump" you see from the device? If so I'd be interested to hear your experience. I don't even know if this sort of thing is done but I thought I'd throw it out there.
ICD and Jet engines/Flying
My husband , Major airline jet engine mechanic just received his ICD 8 weeks ago. He cannot return to work as the airline does not know what the magnetic fields/electrical fields are in and around running aircraft. Medtronics nor the physicians have no exp and no research related to the hazards of airline work and ICD/Pacemakers.Just running cars and arc welders as if that is what everyICD patient does for a living.
