new to me

Hi, Just had my pacemaker fitted, and i feel lost, was only diagnosed in december, i thought pacemakers were for old people. It seems to be so routine with the hospital, but i'm just floundering around trying to make sense of it all. Will i still be able to feel it when it has healed in 6 weeks? will i just carry on as if it is not there? the staff say life should be normal, would like to hear from other people who have been where i am.

Newbie

Hi - I'm the proud new owner of a pacemaker. On Friday January 15th I had an appointment with my GP that I started to cancel. I'd been battling a weird 'cold' since the week before Christmas and just didn't have the energy to drive across town for my appointment. Decided to go. The nurse tried to take my blood pressure and her equipment wouldn't work, so we went into an examination room so she could use the cuff there. Then she took my pulse. The doctor came in very soon after that and he t...

THANK YOU ALL

I first posted in coping about three weeks ago when I found out from my cardiologist that I have Bradycardia and 2nd degree av block, probably type II. I was a nervous wreck not knowing how this would affect my life and my health.

Thanks to reading your responses to my post and also postings of everyone who belongs to the club I think that my appointment with the pacemaker specialist on February 3rd will go much more smoothly.

The only thing I am wondering about is what is...

What is an EP?

I hear a lot of people mention about an EP. Can anyone tell me what an EP is and what they do, and what is the difference between an EP and a cardiologist? Thanks.

ha!

Where there's a will there's a way! I just washed my hair two handed without breaking any rules LOL. If I tilt my head to the left and get my elbow up even with my shoulder, I can wash my hair pretty easily. Yay. I didn't want to keep pestering my hairdresser for a shampoo every other day indefinitely.

New To me

Hi, I suppose you classify me as old 73!!!!! but I had an emergency pacemaker fitted for complete block. Believe me I am so grateful because now I have resumed all my previous activities.
I play tennis 5 days a week. Walk extensively etc, which previously I couldn't understand why my body could not cope with anything anymore.
Mine was implanted in November 2007 and now i forget it is in place. If you have a good E.P. they will do all the adjustments to make life easier. I have m...

I am on my second pacemaker in nine years. Medtronic is the best. When I had my heart attack the next day I went in Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I do not like large stores, lot of selections of items or speak in public. This one was odd to experience since I am a Librarian & spoke at schools, historical clubs etc.

25yrs old get pacemaker feb3rd2010

I am 25 and have been going through a lot of problems over the last year. In May I passed out and went to the E.R. I found that my heart's conduction system was not firing right. I went to a cardiologist. I had a heart echo, stress test, ekgs, and few other tests. He then had had me wear a 3 day monitor and then a 30 day monitor. From all these we found that my heart rate dropped into the 30's on a daily basis, had 3-5 second pauses, usually in 40's and 50's and is irregular. In addition I have...

My head is spinning

3 different doctors, 3 different opinions. Neither doctor has a pacemaker so I am asking all of you that had episodes of heart block before your pacemaker!!!

When you had an episode what did it feel like? Did it feel like mine? I would feel a little dizzy, then I would feel my pulse and I wouldn't have one for a few seconds...then all of a sudden I would feel my heart RACE.

One doctor said my racing after the block was normal as there was probably some blood backed up and...

PM Check & Interrogation

I've been wanting to ask a few questions from the membership about timely PM checks. I have phone check-ups every other month in the first 2 years of each PM generator with monthly checks the years following until replacement time. Is this overkill as I went 2 months without my PM this past year?

I read a lot of posting of fear of interrogation & phone or office checks having ill effects. I question if I'm the only one who gets a real high when using the magnet to check my PM?...

Having second thoughts

I am a 54 yr old male, diagnosed with bradycadia. I started having trouble in July 09, went through stress test, dopplar, sleep study, etc. everything fine.

My HR would get down to upper 30s, never fainted but came real close 3 times, just general fatigue and aniexity, chest/back pressure when HR drops.

First cardio doc said no big deal just getting old. Second was ready to implant that day. Third opinion did a month long event monitor and says that "a PC should reliev...

It has been a rocky few weeks and I really appreciate hearing from my old friends. Kookaburralaughing: I will be over on in May for a couple of months so I hope we can make that date for our picnic in the park. Anyone else in the Geelong/Colac/Torquay area interested in a meet up?.

It is good to see the Aussie Pacers interacting. You never know we might just have a Meet Up this side...
