pacemaker failure

My father has been told his pacemaker is failing and he is not a candidate for replacement. He is 91, his pulse is 50, he has SOB and is weak. What are other symptoms I can expect as the end nears? Do pacemakers suddenly stop? I am caring for him in my home.

Nightime

Hello again everyone. Have had my pacemaker for 8 days. During the day I feel fantastic, certainly slower right now, but still good. Sleeping is the problem. When I lay on my right side I can feel the ticking of the pacing when it happens (a very disconcerting feeling!) and I'm too sore to lay on my left side right now. Laying on my back all night has given me pretty substantial back pain. Thoughts?

3 Month Phone Checkup

I have my 3 month phone checkup on Wednesday 8/5/09. My ? is ,are there any surprises that I should be aware of? There are some questions that I should ask my Dr. concerning some minor discomfort in the top of my left shoulder at times and a brief period of SOB after walking up 3 flights of stairs which I sometimes do after my 4 mile walk and 1 hour in the gym.I think that I may be over doing it a bit.By the way ,my pulse rate averages between 62 to 72,which is up from 37 to 42 before PM.Maybe n...

Recent Implantation

Had this little device placed in the ole bod on 6/11/09, so I am just getting used to this little jewel. I have been very careful, and will see the doctor on 8/18/09 for a review, and he will advise me when I will be able to play golf once more. Any golfers out there please let me know how long it took you to get comfortable and play without worrying you may cause some harm. The last thing I want is to cause one of the leads come loose. Yep, I have two leads, and I don’t want the doc to op...

Finaly!!

It's been a good while to get back on track. PM removal (erosion), New PM right chest installation, Attempted old site restoration (failed lead eroded through site). Another surgery is done clipping old leads with protrusive end caps removed, proper securing and padding and about a 2" boob lift for a much neater repair. It healed up great in 2 weeks, feels great and doesn't look bad with a shirt over it.
I had to risk the 4th and last surgery without antibiotics as the body couldn't han...

New to the game

Hi all.

Just got fitted with a pacemaker last Friday after crashing my car after blacking out. Second episode in the emergency room gave doctors all the info they needed and I got my pacemaker the next morning. A bit scared. A bit worried about what to expect in life now. I am a 53 year old, very active woman who rides horses and is an avid vegetable gardener. Worried that I won't be able to do these thing anymore. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

contemplating getting a pace maker

I am a nineteen year old contemplating getting a pacemaker. I have Neaurocardiogenic Syncope (Vasovagal syncope). Since grade school I have passed out countless times and undergone all the various tests and medications. I experienced severe side effects and was not able to tolerate the meds.
Recently, my passing out became more frequent. I am a competitive swimmer. My passing out has inhibited me from competing. After nearly passing out in the water during a race the trainers and te...

so confused... failure to pace due to lead

Ok so I am sooooo confused. I had a dual chamber pacemaker put in on June 11. This last wednesday they went in and did the AV node ablation. So here I sit, saturday, still in the hospital. Why you ask???? Because I am having failure of capture when I lay on my right side. It is only a beat here and there. They have been changing my settings around to try and adjust for it and make my voltage high. But now my physician has left for vacation and his intent was to discharge me. Me I am th...

One year on

It's now one year to the day since I had my pacemaker implanted. In all that time I haven't had one bit of trouble and almost all of the time I forget that the thing is even there. I get my pacemaker checked in a simple, painless procedure and that's it. My scar healed up very quickly, I had the op in the school summer holidays and I was back at my desk for the new term starting just over two weeks later. I do have a small card to carry but this is a very small price to pay. Good luck to everyon...

Are you Disabled ???????

Do you define yourself as disabled because you have a PM ?

I never considered it before, but I recently had an occupational health medical and the nurse said 'Oh you have a PM' well that is a disability.

Her logic was, if it was removed tomorrow could you undertake a full life with normal activities?

So, looking at it that way the I presume we are classed as disabled.

A lot of companies in the UK now advertise vacancies, that guarantee an interview if...
