Blues Chaser

Hello Good People,

I haven't been an active participant in this forum very long but I've been reading the postings for months. As a result I know many of your names and have seen your pictures. I knew we all had something in common in that we all have a pacemaker or ICD. This week I see we have even more in common. That being this season seems to bring out thoughts and memories that have some of us feeling just a little bit down. Well today I received this link from an acquaintan...

Longevity Pacer

I had an av node ablation in Feb. 2006 and have a two lead Biotronic pacer that paces in my atrium at about 17% and 100% in the ventricle. which means that I am 100% dependent on this little sucker and they tell me there is a five year warranty on it. I am wondering how long it can be expected to last at 100% pacing. I believe it is set at 75 to 135 and I have a high heartrate when I am trying to relax or go to sleep. I can feel it in my heartarea and also in my back, It seems to be beatin...

Absurd questions by clueless people

Ok, these are real questions asked by friends of mine:
When telling a friend I had a PM, she asked if I could live forever... should have said yes...
When telling a camp counselor I had a PM, she asked if I got one before I got old.
When thinking out lound in the girl's locker room after gym, (Oh man, I have a PM test over the phone!) a girl asked if they were going to take it out and put it back in.

There shall be more in the near future...

Having a pacer repositioned

Hi everyone. I had my pacemaker put in in May 2007 and really have not had a comfortable day since. My pacemaker is very close to my armpit and borders on the edge of it. It limits my range of motion. It's uncomfortable to reach my left arm across my body to put on deodorant or reach for something. I still get pain and burning down my arm - not as bad but still get it. The area is still sensitive when touched. The doctor who put it is says "It's a little more lateral than she would like but...

Wondering...

I was just wondering if I could pursue a job as a pediatric cardiologist because I know for a fact that I would have to handle magnets. This is the only job I really want and can not think of anything else so if I could get that clarified I would be so grateful. Thanks!!!!

Hi PM Pals

Thanks to Smitty and Jessie for answering my query. I feel a really Blue Australia tonight. Christmas is galloping towards me and it is a time of year that throws me into deep deep depression. This year the cards lay in a pile, no decorations, no tree, no extra fare in the cupboard. I feel very very tired and would love for one of my kids to make the effort for a change. "Hey Mum & dad, why don't you come up to us this year?" But my married sons have never done their turn. Funnily enoug...

It's great to be bionic!

Hello to all my fellow pacemaker recipients! If you or somebody you know is going to get a pacemaker, it isn't so bad. I am 13 and have had my pacemaker since I was less than 24 hours old. The only thing that I don't like is 1 that I can't play contact sports (I really want to fence!) and 2 the echos. I absolutly can not stand them! If you are concerned about iPod interference, I can tell you, I have a huge video iPod and it has not bothered me so far.

EMF and Electrical Field concerns for Electrical Contractor

This was originally posted in Travel and Work forum - I'd like more commentary if possible, so I thought I'd post it under this category:

I am wondering if there are any electrical contractors out there who have a pacemaker and are working in a different work site or location every day. How do you manage the uncertaintly of magnetic field and electrical current levels if your job requires that you visit a different customer (sometimes power plants) every day?

I would appre...

Want to rejoin gym

Hi All,

I am 30 years old and new to this club. Though I am not new with pacemakers and have it for last 25 years. I got my second replacement in march 2007. Prior to this replacemcent I was doing a bit of weightlifting etc. But this time my Doc told me not to lift heavy weights. when i asked him the reason he said that it is just a general advice. Now after 9 months I wish to join Gym again, but i am affraid as this may damage the leads. I understand that millitary and inclines types...

I read with interest

Sandra's posting about ICd's and Pace makers ..and it is nice to know it seems to be working well for her, and also noted Dominique's response... Hi Dominique!! I have Dilated cardio myopathy and had an ICD implant because I was at risk of SD.

I just wonder since my heart is all over the place all of the time why do they not pace my heart with one of these dual bits of kit... I guess there must be a reason... but I never seem to get an answer from the meds... perhaps some one here co...

Drugs (Sortorol) and working out

I wsa recently place on Betapace to help control my Vtachs and either it's in my head or the betapace is lowering my capacity to workout. I still do my normal workout (1 hr 5 days/week weights, heavy), but have noticed I feel more winded as well as I know my pulse is lower than it used to be. It also immediately falls off.

Anyone have experience with these types of drugs and exercise? I'm going to work my normal pace for a week or so, then communicate with my PE about it's effects. I'...

PM & Pregnancy

PM and Pregnancy

I finally got the go ahead to have a baby! I am super excited yet scared. Evidentially, Coreg is a drug that can be taken during a pregnancy so that is a huge relief!

I can guarantee that I will have the only baby in town run on my pacer! Wild huh?

Has anyone out there gone through a pregnancy with a PM?
