tightness/stifness

I was wondering about the tightness of the whole pacemaker area. Does this go away? My whole upper body is really stiff and feels almost stitched together.

St. Jude Pacemaker

Had St. Jude Pacemaker implanted about 5 months ago with 3 leads, includes defib. Somehow, it has shifted downward and needed to be reset. During the operation to reset, the surgeon said that the pacemaker had been turned completely over 8 times and the wires wrapped around it, consequently, tearing them all loose. In addition the wires had so much scar tissue in the veins that he could only connect the one defib wire at this time. He is suggesting that I turned it over 8 times, ever hear of...

MIssed beats and fast ones

Hello, I check in at the club about once a week. I am about 20 month out from my getting my pacemaker. I had been feeling well and have been very pleased about that. Then last week my heart beats began skipping around after calming down for 3 months. It is a combination off missed beats and fast ones. It feels a bit like a roller coaster ride. The only thing that changed ( that I can think of) was for the summer I froze my gym membership and was not doing any cardio work. Do you think it just co...

welding/carpentry

I was just wondering, is anyone with a duel lead PM a full time welder? Also, has anyone who works with industrial equipment, welders, table saws, laths etc... bought a gauss measuring instrument to measure the fields around the machinery? Also Medtronics people told me 10 gauss was as strong a field as I should be around. Is this measurement 10Mg
or 10 Gauss? If you have purchased a meter what kind did you buy and where did you buy it?

Blood Pressure 150/105

I am taking 40 mg of coreg (Beta Blocker) and my pressure is still high.

Prior to pacemaker implant I was taking Lotrel, which is a combo pill consisting of ace inhibitor and calcium channel Blocker kept my pressure around 130/80 which is good. However, my EP took me off it after implant.

Yesterday I went out to a golf event as a spectator. and
came home feeling funny. I checked my Blood pressure and it was 177/116.

I called my cardiologist who put me on L...

Anyone have a bi-phasic PPM?

Living with SOB on exertion for one year now,and havinig nearly every test in the "book" (all negative)... I asked for a 2nd opinion at Hopkins, and I finally have an answer to why I am so short of breath. My 2nd opinion physician told me that my heart is out of "sync", and my EF has gone from 69 to 45 in 2 years. So, I am scheduled to have my a/v pacemaker replaced with a bright shiny new model, complete with 3 leads into my heart, mid October. I understand it will give 10-15% more atrial kic...

Bridge Therapy With Heparin

Have SSS, bradycardia. One episode of atrial fibrillation in November 2007 caused me to be hospitalized and have pacemaker implanted. Atrial lead displaced almost immediately and have had problems adjusting to ventricular pacing. Presently pm is set at lower rate of 30 purposely to reduce amount of ventricular pacing. According to a recent holter monitor test, my heart rate is in the 30 to 40 range over 50 % of the time. Am developing SOB.

Saw EP yesterday and have agreed to further s...

ocean fishing

Hi

I had my PM installed one week ago. Two weeks ago I was on vacation jogging and working out. One day I began feeling tired and feeling a lack of air, just climbing two stair floors. I was kind of confussed when the Doctor told me I needed a PM
Is it often that this condition appears so sudden? on the other hand, Doctor told me I have to wait Three months until I can go ocean fishing again.
I appreciatte your comments regarding both issues.

Regards.

Im officially a member now!

Hello all well had my surgery on 2nd October and got back home last night. Its all good! Apart from my left shoulder feeling its been hit by a bus, I already feel better. Thanks to all for the support before I had my PM surgery. I went in to hospital feeling positive. I had alot of tests done before the surgery and they found my heart was pausing quite alot so I and the surgeon are pleased that I now have the PM. Looking forward to feeling alot better over the coming days and weeks.

Cordless Headphones

My Mother is fitted with a pacemaker. She is fairly deaf and has difficulty hearing her television. My husband and I suggested she have a set of cordless headphones which would assist. She is concerned that these would interfere with her pacemaker. Can you please give some advice

Setting is 70bpm. Often it is 89. Is that ok?

I have my pacemaker due to atrial fibrillations. This is my second St. Jude. It supposed to be set so that when I am active, the beats will change. I have noticed that I will be doing nothing and it will be 89. I can walk a few blocks at another time and it is 70 which is the base setting. I called St. Jude and they said 89 bpm is ok. This wasn't normal me prior to pacemaker - I am sure. Does anyone else have the same issue? Thanks.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
