Life insurance

Hi

I am wriitng in desperation now, my wife had a pacemaker fitted in November 2006, she is 30 years old and we have been trying to get life insurance for her but every insurance company we have tried continues to turn us down on medical grounds. We live in England, my wife has had no problems with her pacemaker and she is physically fit and well. Has anybody else had this trouble before and if so does anybody know any good insurance companies to approach.

All suggestio...

Lead Replacement

Hi, I'm new to this group. I've had a Medtronic pacemaker device (dual chamber) since I was 26 years old. I found out yesterday that the battery life is low (made it 11 years!!!) but that the lead to the lower chamber is not working correctly and that it will need to be replaced. I'm worried about the procedure. Has anyone (below 50 yrs old) had this done lately? Any information would be very helpful. Thank you. LSG

Possible Pacer?

Hi everyone. I'm so glad I found this site. Ive been in such a whirlwind of news and possible this and that over the past few weeks, I'm exhausted! I'm 23 and have been diagnosed with Neurocardiogenic I ended up passing out and found out that it was heart rate driven, not b/p drop that did it. They got me taching into the 150s and then within 2 seconds I dropped junctional into the 30s 40s and acclerated junctional and finally back into sinus rhythm. So, theyve started meds which really isn't...

Am I in Denial?

I hope I can spill my guts here without getting flamed! I received my icd/bi-vent PM 5 weeks ago, completely out of the blue. It hit me like a ton of bricks cuz I had never had much in the way of symptoms prior. However, knowing what I do now, I need to make major changes in my diet, commit to regular exercise and the biggie - quit smoking. I can't get my brain wrapped around the idea that life as I've known it must change. I feel great but know that changing my bad habits will not only make me...

Second Opinion

I am currently seeking a second opinion. I have an appointment with another EP in my area, but it is not scheduled until the end of October. I am desperate at this point.
My husband and I are considering a trip to the Cleveland Heart Clinic. We are in Texas, so it will be a big step to take, but I have come to realize that we must be our own advocates when it comes to our health, and I need answers!
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to where I may seek treatment? I am open to...

alcohol anyone?

Hi. I've got a post running in the exercise section but have another question.

I make my own wine and beer and it's a big passion of mine. I started making wine when we were sailing for 2 years down the Pacific side of Mexico and Central America. When we came back to "landlubbing" I began working more with high quality wine kits and making my own beer. Joined a brew club here in York, PA, and absolutely love the history, process, and experimentation with all the variations. I c...

Frustrated!

Quick re-cap: I have had my pacemaker for about 9 months. I was diagnosed with IST about 6 months ago. I have had 2 sinus node modifications. Still struggling with tachycardia.

I went to see my Dr. yesterday to discuss whether or not a final sinus node ablation would be the next step in my treatment. I had a sinus node modification about 3 months ago, and she wanted to give my heart plenty of time to heal, so she decided to wait until now to discuss this option.
Our last discus...

Hi my son Devin was shocked 8 times in 20mins in June 07. He has ventricular tachycardia and his heart rate goes over 300bpm. We have been going to the Mayo Clinic in MN where the doctors feel they have fixed his tachycardia. He has alot of aniexty and everyday things can be very difficult. He still has his ICD and lives with fear everyday. Questions!

Wow! Do I feel like I have missed out on a lot when I have not been on for a while. I have so many questions for everyone. I just got out of the hospital which it did not take me long to move and fine myself already needing to go into the hospital.
The doctor who saw me believes that I am or will be going into heart block. This is something different for me so I was hoping some of you wise people would be able to explain how you get this after pm? He messed with all my settings and d...

Getting Used To The Pacemaker

Thanks for the info in my past postings. I hear it from everyone saying that it takes time, and I just have to make that statement sink in! Thursday will only be 2 weeks. I did go for a walk today and felt okay with it. Didn't do my usual long walk - just still a little cautious about something happening I guess.

I still do get that 'catch your breath' heartbeat in my throat chest area. The feeling I was getting before the pacemaker. I can feel the pacemaker kick in sometimes at that...

Hey guys!

I'm confused, but my teenage brain tends to get that way... :) Anyway, mom finally called my regular doctor and they told her to call my PC. She said she's not going to right now because it's not like she can drive me there right now (it's 2.5 hours away). I don't think they'd ask us to come in right away, so I asked her to just call and see what's going on, but I got the typical "I'm the mom and I know best" attitude when I NEED it!! Grrrrr. Oh yeah, I read pacemakerkid's message about her pap...

Did anyone have lumps in neck or arm after surgery

Hi. I'm new to the Pacemaker Club and very thankful to have found you. I had my pacemaker inserted August 14 after an ablation on the 13th apparently stunned my heart. I believe things happen for a reason, but I'm still sad about it all and a little scared. I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. Last week I developed chills and a fever. My doctor put me on antibiotics and my fever broke yesterday. I also noticed that my left arm was very swollen. My doctor gave me laxis fo...

Increase in energy level?

Hello,
I am new to the club and glad to find you all. I am being told that I need a biventricular pacemaker by my EP. My GP is concerned and wants me to take it slow. I've been reading up on my condition, the types of treatments and the meds available. I've read up on ablation, pacemakers, etc., but other than vague reports of "patients reported they felt XX% better" I've not seen direct answers to my main question about energy level.

I have LBBB and a-fib. We didn't know I...

Hi Friends

Haven't posted for some time so thought I had better say Hi to all. We are still at Bellbrae on the Victrorian coast. We have two weeks to go then we move on to another place along the sea front. After that we go out to a farm for two weeks to keep an eye on a dog, four chooks, (chickens) and forty goats. We are finding being a Mr and Mrs mobile Noah really fun.

We have met and made so many nice friends. When it does come out that I have a pacemaker no one believes it!! For me t...

PVC question

What do you do when your having PVC's?

In the past, whenever I had arrthymia (despite various arrthymia medications), my heart would go immediately to 180 or above and stay there. This obviously resulted in a trip to the ER.

Since I got my pacemaker/ICD and was put on Tikosyn I haven't had that bad of an episode. However, I do sometimes have episodes where my heart rate is between 110 - 120bpm. It's not just a few extra beats, the heart rate stays elevated at a pretty...

Atrial Flutter - Symptom or Disease?

Good afternoon, I have had Atrial Flutter and Fib since 1992. It wasn't until 2006 before anyone actually tried to fix the problem, but by then it was a little too late. The inside of the Atriums are full of scar tissue, so they did a Sinus Node Ablation and made me completely dependent on a pacemaker/ICD. I have been told by the US Government that Atrial Flutter and Fib are only symptoms of a disease, that it is not a disease and/or disability, but I do know that both of them have been assig...
