Fun? for the day!

Here we go again. Just got home from a short trip to Longs drug store. I am certain it has happened to most of you, but I call it the Joys of a Pacemaker. You guessed it. As I went out the door the alarm sounded loud & clear, and the young man came running after me with everyone nearby turning to see "who stole something"...I don't even carry a purse anymore...just pockets. As I tried to explain that it was just a pacemaker, the young man looked with a big question mark in his eyes. Here is this...

ICD/PM testing

Would anyone be interested in the formation of a group to provide independent testing of ICD's and PM's at cost only. Its an idea thats in its infancy but might clear up some questions for us about recalls and such that manufacturers aren't always honest with us about. BEST TO EVERYONE

Longest Implant Time? I'm up to 21 yrs now..

hi all, just found this group, although a little late really! I've had a pacemaker for a long time, certainly the longest at the hospital in London I have my check-ups and I was wondering if anyone knew the current 'record' for the longest implant?

I had my Siemens pacemaker (St Jude bought Siemens Medical years ago) implanted in April 1986 when I was 11 years old for Bradycardia. I've been fit and healthy ever since, its used regularly (I can feel it) and I have been for regular chec...

How Doctors Think

There is a good book out called "How Doctors Think" by Jerome-Groopman,MD. It really gives insight into the process used by busy and incompetent doctors. The author is chief of experimental medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and teaches at Harvard Medical School. One of the interesting points he makes is that most doctors have your diagnosis figured out in the first few minutes in the office. After that it makes little difference what you say as far as making any differen...

navigator interference

Good Evening Friends,
I love this club! I find myself visiting at least twice a day even though I have a very busy life...it's great to have a pm family!
Hopefully, someone can answer this question. We have a car that is less than one year old. The car has a pretty extensive navigation system.
This has given us problems since day one. They fix it and then it goes off again.
Does anyone know if a pacemaker could interfer with the new car navigation systems?
Many thank...

Pacemaker Popped...?

Hello,

I am new here. I had my pacemaker implanted in Aug. This morning I swear I heard it make a pop like sound. It seems like it is tilted now and one side feels closer to the skin.

Has anyone heard or had a similar situation?

Thank you,
CJ

Sicko

Okay, club members. Question for you. Have any of you seen Michael Moore's movie, Sicko? I am not asking because I want to start some big political debate or get people going at each other--I just want to start a conversation. (If you don't know about this movie, it speaks about the dysfunctional healthcare system in the US compared to universal healthcare systems elsewhere in the world.) I, for one, believe this is a people issue and not a democrat-republican, liberal-conservative, or wha...

A quick update for those of you that told me to look into state options I did not qulaify for any help for insurance and still can not seem to fine any insurance company that will cover me. I have been having a lot of spasms through out my body an...

~~~~Lawchick and T-shirts~~~~~
Hi People's!!
I hope I am not speaking out of place here... I can see where "lawchick" is coming from with the Tshirt idea... but it was so well put by Jessie (see her comment) this is not a profit making club/site and it relys on the good will of its members and the support given by them to admin/Blake.. who tirelessly keeps it all together for us to enjoy.
Having said that I hope it does not put lawchick of from being an active member and enjoying the club to it's fullest extent.....
thanks for all your support
Hi everyone!
This website has been a big help during my recovery from my 1st PM. I knew no one who I felt shared my experience, until I met you all.
Now at 11-weeks post-PM, I barely notice it during the course of the day. Man, am I grateful to be able to say that!
Maybe because I'm too skinny, but I thought the feeling of it "digging into my chest" with arm movements I do all day at work would never go away! Now it's cool.
I figure I owe it to the "newbies" to say, han...
Guns n' Roses
Reading an aricle today about the new autobiography by former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash (called "Slash") in which it mentions that he's been fitted with an ICD. Aparrently his heart stopped for eight minutes which I think was down to substance abuse. I haven't read the book but presumably the episode is covered in some detail. I've never seen his name crop up when well known people with ICD's are mentioned. As a musician myself I would be interested if it's had any impact on his live perform...
Sorry if I haven't answered private messages
As many of you know I am just recently back on the site after the death of my wife in April. Apparently the site was given a new face while I was away. I just discovered where my private messages are shown and also found that I had 117 messages with each message duplicated twice. Not only that they are all dated 03-17-2007 so I have no idea when they were sent. I just spent the time to delete them all one by one so my box is clear.
If anyone has sent me a private message that is still rele...
thanks
What a wonderfull website that has been created. I get on it every night and feel like I have shared experiences with several people in like situations. No one understands what you are going through both physically and psychologically when you go through this procedure and what you went through before the pacemaker which is why this website is so great! Thanks to whomever started this and made it possible for us to share experiences. I suggested a support group when I got my pacemaker in Feb...
t-shirts
I am thinking about marketing t-shirts that say "I am battery operated" on the front with a pacemaker picture. On the back, they'd say "Pacemaker Proud". For $20-- would that interest anyone?
I am a 42 year old that feels way too young for my pacemaker, but I sure appreciate the way it has changed my life for the better!
Keeping a job as a Police Officer
My husband is currently a police officer on the East Coast. He will be undergoing a procedure to have a difibrillator implanted soon. Just wondering if there are any other individuals in the same field who are currently working as a police officer or who have had to terminate their positions in the Police Force due to having an implantable Difibrillator. Police work is and has been his passion for many years. I just don't like the idea that maybe his passion will be stripped away. So again the...
