Also still very sore and tender, is this normal ?

The consultant said the pm might need to be put in deeper.

Shoulder surgery

Hi everyone! I tore my rotator cuff and would like to have surgery to repair it. One Dr. told me that I am at risk due to my pacemaker and the complications that could arise. I am 55 years old with a St. Judes pacemaker with two leads. If anyone out there has had a surgery while having a pacemaker please share your experience with me.
Thanks

Florida Weekend Event

Anyone planning on going (or thinking about going) to the Florida Weekend Event in September? Right now Florida sounds good and something to look forward to. I'm considering going if I'm able. Sounds like fun.

Satellite Radio

Hi all, as I was driving along to work this morning I was listening to the radio and a thought came to mind. Does satellite radio have any affect on our PM? April 24th will be my one year PM anniversary and I just now had this thought. Needless to say, I drive this car everyday and have even gone on long road trips. But there are times that I feel a bit strange, sort of like standing too close to the exit at JCPenney. Any thoughts?

weird?!?!?

This board has a lot of great folks on it. But, I must admit I was totally convinced that some were a little crazy. mmm... OK.. that was an understatement... A LOT of folks on this board talk about feeling weird... something they can't explain. I really had no idea what you were talking about. NOW I DO!
I was driving to work (in Memphis) among the throngs of people doing the same at 6:00am. OK. There were 3 of us in the group of cars on that stretch. When the one on the left de...

Beta Blockers

Has anyone taking beta blockers during pregnancy? My cardiologist and my EP say it's OK but the drug info seems to strongly contradict that.

Both doctors say the beta blockers have "the potential" to slow a newborns heart rate after birth. Doesn't seem like a good thing to me!

Wondering if anyone has taken a particular brand/label considered safe for pregnancy? I was given the above information based on Atenolol 25.

Thank you,
Wendy

Yes??? No???

OK. I got my pm on 1/25. I have a regular Dentist appointment this coming Monday, 2/8 for a cleaning. I just received my reminder call and took the opportunity to tell them I now had a pacemaker. She said I should call the Dr and see if I needed Antibiotics. I don't like to take these if it isn't necessary and sometimes Drs give pills out when I feel they are not totally necessary.... Anyway. This is just a simple cleaning... are antibiotics necessary? I would rather be safe than sorry,...

Should I be on blood thinners?

My mother-in-law called my husband this morning asking if the doctor gave me any blood thinners after the pm implant for heart block. The doctor did not give me any meds other than an antibiotic that I finished Sunday.

Did anyone need blood thinners after their procedures? My wound check appt is for next Wed 3/10. Should I ask if I should be on a blood thinner? Also, anything else I should ask the doctor at this appointment.

BTW, the appointment is with my EP, not cardiolo...

Back in Flutter

I've had my dual-lead pacer for a year. I was feeling pretty good up until last month. Now I'm back in A-Flutter. They tried a cardioversion, but that didn't work.
They put me on Multaq, which isn't doing much. I have never been off the coumadin since I got the pacer.
I am being referred back to the electrophysiologist, which bums me out a great deal because he will probably want to do another ablation. I do not look forward to another ablation.
I guess I'm just whining. I just h...

Boston Scientific incorrect surname

I had a Boston Scientific replacement pacemaker implanted on February 10, 2010. Yesterday [March 2, 2010] I received in the post an identity card to carry with me in my wallet.

Oh! Naughty Boston Scientific – my surname was incorrectly spelled! This identity card would be disastrous at airport security screening, etc.

I will write to Boston Scientific and point out their error, and hope to have a new card issued as a result.

All my hospital details were accurate...

getting back to 100%

I'm almost there! I've been back at the gym doing light workouts since two weeks post op, adding time and intensity each week. Big hurdle this morning- I did a full 25 minutes on the elliptical and for the first time in probably a year, I was able to do it the way I used to- alternate three minutes of medium effort with one minute all out. No ill effects, no maxing out the pm, I feel ready to take on the world, yay!!!!! Next week is 6 weeks so I can stop babying the new lead and add back the wei...

Burning sensation

I recently got a medical alert device for my father, who has a pacemaker. He reports that during sleep the alert, which he wears around his neck, shifts. When it's over the pacemaker he feels like the wires are burning him. When he moves the device, the burning goes away. His doctor told him the medical alert couldn't be doing this, but that doesn't make a lot of sense. My father is not the type to make things like this up or call attention to himself. Any advice?

So glad.....
