So long psycho!

Hi everyone,
Just checking in! Celebrating my 7th consecutive day of sanity since the pm was implanted!

I got an iPhone and downloaded some excellent relaxation applications that do an amazing job. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a moment of calm from time to time.

I start therapy on Thursday....looking forward to it. My husband also switched around a lot of his police tours so he is home more when I am. Every little bit helps! :-)

Thanks again t...

My first day home after pacemaker surgery in February 2004 I had an unscheduled and previously unheard of pacemaker check known as the Chihuahua Surprise. First a little setup. My mother had an elderly chihuahua that was the meanest little devil on 4 legs. Oh, he didn't hate everybody, just ME for some reason. For years I could only visit my mother if I never went past the front door but gradually he allowed me to sit beside him on the sofa as long as I didn't open my mouth to speak. Then he wou...

Pacemaker Manual?

Happy New Year to all!

I haven't been here for a few weeks with the festive season being insane and all, but received my pm on Nov 30 and am doing feeling well. However, something that I find increasingly frustrating is the lack of information that dr's, cardiologists etc are willing to provide on what is 'normal' for having a pacemaker? I completely understand that everybody is different, but I feel that there needs to be an entire manual devoted to 'what to expect with a pacemaker'...

Me, again, re: ECK prob & father-in-law question

Thanks to everyone. I agree with all of your comments...and really appreciate the feedback. I keep wondering if I should make a formal complaint as I know I asked at least 5 (and actually closer to 10) tines if there was someone available who deals with pacemakers. They never did. The next day, the pacemaker guy said they have someone available 24 hours a day and could have been reached. I get so frustrated with getting contradictory answers from the professionals.

Plus, I am not a p...

Thanks for the comments they help alot. The feeling to cough has almost stoped completely. I feel great. I knew about the 6.5 pause from the Dr., I was wearing a monitor.

Back to Reality

I've been on vacation for the last two weeks. Reality is beginning to set in that it's almost over. Come Monday I'll go back to 70 hour work weeks and unrealistic deadlines. I have felt great for the last two weeks. I don't think it's a coincidence that I got away from a high stress job and felt better. Stress is a horrible thing. It consumes you and can destroy you if you let it. These last two weeks may have been a wake up call for me. People have told me I'm lucky to have a job. That...

excersizing

hi, 2 yrs ago I had my mitro valve replaced with a machanical valve, after several weeks of going into afib after the surgery they decided to install a pace maker as well. Due to financial reasons I have not been able to keep going to my regular cardioligist, so I thought maybe some of you can answer some of my questions about excersizing.....Is it good for you to excersize? the reason I ask is because I thought the pace maker was suppose to keep the heart at a certain rate so is excersizing goo...

CRT-D

Hello,

I'm approaching 4wks since my CRT-D implant and still notice some soreness and stiffness in the area...I'm assuming that is normal. However, since the swelling has gone down, I'm definitely more aware that the top of the device is NOT flush with my chest...protruding a bit. When the area was swollen I couldn't tell.

Are your devices flush and smooth with the chest or do they "stick" out a bit???

I see my doc on Thursday...assuming he'll probably say it's...

Why We Cry

Happy New Years Everyone.

As most of you know, I research a lot and try to find articles that may help others on this site. Here is one that I found that really helped me to understand why I cry.

Warning: it's a long article, but very informative...even if you are not a crier. :)

Why We Cry: The Truth About Tearing Up

The lowdown on tears:

Why some cry easily, others don't cry, and how to handle all those tears.

pacing the atrium?

Lately I have been having some problems with weird sensations in my heart. It is hard to describe how it feels, but it is a little like someone was pinching my heart. Some of them hurt more that others, often it just feels like an uncomfortable thump. I have had these before once in a while, but lately they have increased a lot. Today I started having so many of them that I finally went to the er. They found nothing wrong, but as I kept watching the monitor for a long while, I noticed that at ev...

Taking a Dip

There is a yearly tradition in South Boston today that dates back to the early 1900's. A group known as the "L" Street Brownies take there annual dip/swim in the Boston Harbor. I give these people a lot of credit. Today will hit a high of 36 degrees which is actually warm compared to other years. I read that this is not recommended for people with pre-existing conditions. It got me thinking, it must be a shock for a healthy heart. I wonder what it would do for a paced heart. Fortunately I...

My daughter received her first pm 1 mo ago

I had a few minutes and was looking online for a support group, information on pacemakers and stumbled on this site - and it's seems perfect. One month ago this evening, I was en route with my youngest daughter (11) to Children's Nat'l Med Inst. in DC for her first pacemaker. She's done really well. We've known for several years that a PM was in her future, we were just hoping that we'd be able to get her a little older - but there wasn't a lot of info to go on (case history) for her problem...

how soon driving and back to work?

I am having a bivent PM implanted in a couple of weeks. Since it will most likely be an outpatient procedure, going home the same day, I didn't think to ask the basic questions how long it will take before I can drive myself and return to work (computer desk work). I will of course learn this in due time, but I was curious what others have experienced in this respect?

(I know it will be 6 weeks before I can lift my arm above shoulder level, and start strenuous exercise activities agai...

New Year's Resolution

Hi everyone,
I want to begin by saying THANK YOU to all of you who have taken the time to read my posts and respond with such thoughtful answers.

I am in the middle of my 4th "good day." Panic attack free! It's mostly due to the constant Xanax running through my veins LOL, but with that said, it's given me the time to calm down and let my hyperactive nervous system relax too.

My resolution this year is to "get well." I have a much needed appointment on Thursday with a...

PM recommendation

Hi Guys,
Well I had a 6.5 pause last Tuesday in the morning while I was still asleep. The doctor called me and said I needed a PM, and that was on Tuesday morning. I asked when, thinking he would say next week and he said go to the hospital today. I went to the hospital and had the PM put in on Wednesday and I came home yesterday. I am doing fine except some discomfort in my chest, like I want to cough, is this normal at first? No other symtoms. I have not taken any pain meds except Tylen...
