Happy New Year

As the New year comes along...bidding the Old Year to pass..
I tip my hat and raise my glass..to each "Pacemaker Club"..Laddie & Lass.

May your blessings be many..May your troubles be few...
May your pockets be lined, with a coin or two.

I thank you for the comfort & hope...your words impart,
As I come seeking awareness..for my troubled heart.

"May you enjoy improved health...this whole year through."
This is my New Year's wish for you.

abdomnial pain?

I am 5 days out of surgery and wondering why I would have a very localized spot of burning pain in my mid abdomen only when I bend or press on the spot? I am hoping some one knows what I am talking about and can tell me if I should be worried or not.
Thanks, MrsG

Biotronik Issues

I have a Lumax 340 HF-T Biventricular Pacemaker that I havve had just over a year. I went 6 motnhs feeling better than I had in 10 years. Recently when I have been sick and taken to the hospital the Paramedics said I went into V=tach and I saw it on the screen (as I was in and out,) he was even drawing up medicine to give me. In the hospital another time I saw a similar what I thought was Vtach (I am a nurse) and the alarms went off and nurses ran in. I can swear I have been shocked a few times...

1ST CHRISTMAS

My first Christmas with my new pacemaker has come and gone. Aside from now being able to feel my pacemaker "pace", life has been good. I just want to wish everyone health and happiness in 2010. I am reminded often that a pacemaker really isn't that bad - just think of the alternative....and it really is true. I was fortunate to have been picked up by paramedics who insisted I go to the hospital and to have received such great care in emergency. My pacemaker was implanted the day after I fla...

Focus on the Small Victories

I took my beagle (Sully) for a walk today. It's twelve degrees out and he has to stop at every tree, bush, fence, and hydrant along the way. It's about a 1/4 mile loop that we do. The walk should go pretty fast but with this dog I might as well pack a lunch. Anyway as I was walking I remembered how I felt doing this walk prior to my pacer. I would get half way through it and start to black out. My chest would hurt and I'd be out of breath. I no longer have these problems and it's an enjoy...

Public places with landlines

I don't have a landline and my cellphone doesn't work for having my telephone checks. The person I usually go to to use her phone is out of town, and the church I used to go for when she isn't available said I can't use their phones anymore (after three times). The phone at my doctor's doesn't work with the 1-800 number. I tried to senior center today and their computers interfered with the reading. Library same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might find suit...

What is High Grade AV Block?

Okay, this is an entirely stupid question considering it's been 18 months since my diagnosis. After reading ElectricFranks question about upper PM limits and then Ronaldo's response, I have to ask what is High Grade AV Block? This is what I was dx'd with and have a PM, but only understand it at a kindergarten level (from the cardiologist). Can anyone tell me more - where does the electrical current go/not go? Is the problem in my atrium or ventricle or both? Left or right side? What else should...

Scary

Take a look at this.

It is not pacemaker related although you may have a heart attack after reading, or looking at the film clip, if you are a patron of the airlines.

Shock

I work around high voltage almost daily. Will a shock from 110 volt ac affect the pacemaker. This is probably an old tired out question but I am new to this.

Airport Security

Visited a few airports and been through the screening, pat downs, etc. What about the full body scanners? Has anyone been thru this process yet? Planning a trip where I know one is in use, and whether I would have to use that thing & if there are any magnets in those. Thanks

On www. msnbc.com there is an entry for how the FDA does not set success criteria for "devices" - including PMs, stents etc. Here si the link:

Stress caused A-fib

I have a St. Jude Pacemaker but still get a-fibs. I take Sotalol 2 x a day. I know that mental stress (even unintentional) can cause my a-fibs. Last night's was 9 hours in length, even though I took extra Sotalol. It was due to thinking about a friend's fatal illness.
Any suggestions for a better medication to keep these a-fibs from happening would be much appreciated. I also can't take antihistamines for the same reason (a-fib).

Medical Alert Jewelry

I was wondering how many folks have gotten some kind of medical identification jewelry/tags, etc.? I have my PM ID card and settings in my wallet but I’ve never gotten around to getting a dog tag (not much of a one for bracelets) and wasn’t sure how many people have bothered to do so. The nurse practitioner I see at my cardiologists said it would be good to do but didn’t really seem hot or cold about it.

Any recommendations about to what to get?
~~Thanks!

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
