Thanks everyone for all you words of encouragement! I really feel much better. Plus I quit beating myself up for having one 'poor me' day. One more thing, is this hereditary? My kids are worried.

New to this site and drawing a blank on vocab. I have the PM that is placed abdominally (wires are set on exterior of heart). What the heck is that called - I can't remember. Anyway, does anyone have this type and have problems with it moving around too much? I love not having the lump on my chest anymore, but the darn thing gets stuck in my ribs if I bend over or curl up just so - hurts like h---. And now I'm pretty sure it has settled right up against my esophagus. Comments? Suggesetion...

How long do pacemaker leads last on average? How many of you have had additional leads placed without extracting the old ones, and how many of you have had leads extracted. Do they generally use the same kind of anesthesia as they give you for your initial pacemaker implant?

I have Hypertension. Even on my meds my usual BP is 140/90. Yesterday morning I woke up with a low blood pressure of 99/68. That is really low for me. In addition I felt nauseated and very fatigued. I also had palpitations and heart rate of anywhere from 67 to 128. Very wierd day. This morning my BP was better but palps were still evident. This afternoon even after a rotten day at work because of no sleep last night due to palps I am feeling better. Is it normal to have palps after having a PM.<...

Hi pm pals
Just to wish you all a very happy time at Christmas. I am afraid I am just about to slip into my hibernation mode. Christmas always send me into a deep depression. We are not allowed to see our Grandchildren. I wish someone could pass on a magic formulae to me that would help me cope with Christmas.
Hope to see you all in the New Year. Sincere wishes to all.

I was just wondering now that I've tackled my dream of being in a race, I was thinking about finally learning how to do a cartwheel.
I've wanted to do one since I was a little girl, but can never stay upright. I end up doing some kind of a rolling turnover manuver. I'm sure it's quite funny to watch.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I need a spotter to catch my legs until I get the hang of it, but I'm scared of kicking my husband in the head. I'm going to start practicing. I sent my f...

Blue whales can slow their heart rate to four or five beats per minute to conserve oxygen during deep dives.
Enquiring minds wanted to know, eh?

Hi everyone!
I have to have my first mammogram since my PM was put in. I am a bit nervous about it. Is it safe? Does the machine itself affect the PM? I have already canceled one appointment out of fear,so I thought I'd run it by all of you before I make another appointment!
Happy Holidays!

Just returned from my first follow up visit after receiving my pacemaker on Nov. 25, 2008. I am using it at 100% and for some reason this makes me feel very uncomfortable. This whole thing happened so fast - went to the hospital on Monday, the 24th, straight from my doctor's office and had the surgery the next morning. I think I am still recovering emotionally. Other than that I feel great. The soreness is gone and I have so much more energy. What can I expect now, can I live a long and ac...

I ordered a Med Alert bracelet, but don't like it as the info tag is almost as wide as the top of my wrist so it is uncomfortable. Wish I could go to store and actually try some on rather than order online. I did find several websites that had some really cute ones, think I will order 2-3 more. I don't wear charm bracelet so not too interested in getting that one.

I just went for my 3-month pacemaker check at the doctor's. He said everything was fine and the CareLink phone check was the same as my first one - using it less than 1% - should last me for 10 years before replacement.
I told him that it had felt like it had slid slightly under my arm. When I lift my left arm to wash, I can actually move it and it kinda stands up. I am totally grossed out by it. I know . . . I have to get used to it.
He did not seemed concerned that...

Hi everyone,
Since the initial placement of the PM and months after I really had not been aware of it physically. Lately there are times when it is bothersome. It isn't only when I am in bed either. Can these things move around in it's pocket? Does anyone know why this might be happening. Just curious!

Ejection Fraction

Hi everyone, found the following information from the Mayo Clinic Website.....and it's understandable!! yippee.
Ejection fraction is a measurement of the capacity at which your heart is pumping.
During each heartbeat cycle, the heart contracts and relaxes. When your heart contracts, it ejects blood from the two pumping chambers (ventricles). When your heart relaxes, the ventricles refill with blood. No matter how forceful the contraction, it doesn't empty all of the blood...
You know you're wired when...
You fondly named your implanted buddy.
