Diaphragm contractions

Hi. I received a dual chamber PM 2 days ago (my first) and during the second night of sleep had "chest contractions" which were strong enough to wake up my wife. The contractions were infrequent but I decided to go to the emergency room at the hospital. It was determined that my diaphragm was picking up an electronic single from the cardiac pacemaker and causing my diaphragm to contract. Has anyone heard of this condition? Can it be resolved by changing programming settings in the PM? Are...

Anyone hear of this one?

Hey all, I've been dealing with a new complication. Anyone ever hear of, or have a blockage in the subclavian vein? Evidently this is the newest blockage I've developed. It has been causing steadily worsening symptoms of swelling in my arm and hand, bulging veins, and severe pain. Another venogram is scheduled. Dr.'s can't figure out why I keep developing blockages. Been in and out of the ER. Also found out my pacemaker has moved. Not been a good couple of weeks!

pacemaker syndrome

Hey everybody,
I have a question then a site to give you. Friday while I was talking on the phone I felt a tiny little pop in my chest midline just below the sternum followed by a searing burning pain that started out the size of a small pin prick to about the size of a half dollar. Before I could even say the words out loud "wow that was stange" I felt just like I did when my hr was 280 and blacked out to the same way it felt when they turned off my pm (to check me ) and my hr fell to 30....

Incision

My PM was installed Feb 27th/08. I am 60 yrs old. I suppose like all of us dealing with this has not been easy. I am faced with coming to "grips " with the aging process and what is worse my mortality. My problem today is this. I have burning and discharge at the site. The discharge seems to be coming from an area blistering just above incision line. Needless to say I am very concerned about infection. I went to an ER last night and the ER MD was just as puzzled as I am about this. Has anyone el...

Seeing your heart beat

Last Saturday night I could not sleep, it felt like my heart was being strangled!! Like someone was holding it tight!!
Since then I am aware of my heart beat all the time. It is not particularly fast but seems to beat hard.
Sitting quietly I can watch my heart beat through my clothes, is this normal?
Can any of you see your heart beating???

Tachycardia with PM

Thanks ElectricFrank for the input. My doc told me that if they didn't ease up on their own that he was going to put me on some meds and see if that would help. It just seems so weird that I can still have tachys when that is what I went in for. He tried to solve them with ablation but it went wrong so he had to put in a PM. Do you know if all the small shocks to my heart will eventually damage it (my heart)? I know they are small volts but it has to do it constantly in order to beat.Just seems...

Tachycardia with PM

Has anyone heard of someone having tachycardia or Wolff Parkinsons White Syndrone with a PM? I just can't understand how a person with a PM can still have these after having an ablation and now had to have a PM for bradycardia. I am 100% PM dependant because my heart won't hit a lick without it. So how can it be beating over 180 BPM (so my PM has recorded) when all of the routes in my heart have been destroyed? I'm confused......

High heartbeat rates

Hi
I had my dual lead pacemaker fitted June 07, with a resting beat of 60bpm. This was to combat dizziness whilst resting and HB rates as low as 35 bpm. The rate funtion was not activated.
After approx one month the rate function was activated and I found it much too sensitve with resting beat sometimes at 90bpm and action (walking) beats at 130bpm sometimes with slight angina.
The pm was desensitised and all was well until recently and I again get 130bpm ,sometimes with slight an...

thanks to ElectricFrank

Thank you for the info on CHF and ventricular pacing. i do have my pacemaker rate response mode off and my thresholds have been re-adjusted to 50 - 170. Still, when I work out my rate seems to climb faster than it used to. My 2nd dgree block seemed to come on progressively over several years. i was diagnosed with RBB in 2000 (no big deal). then around 2003 i began having rate dependent brady. then it became less and less rate dependent and basically chronic. My medtronic pacer has done we...

Pacemaker and CHD

Hello everyone:

This is my first time posting a message. I was implanted March 20, 2006 for 2nd degree AV block. There appears to be no underlying coronary artery disease, so I have no idea what caused it. I'm 50. My questions is: Recently i have read that ventricular pacing can lead to HF due to the dysinchrony of right ventricle beat relative to the left ventricle beat. My ventricle lead is placed in my septum, which, i believe helps prevent this issue as opposed to an apical...

Recovery/Listening to Doctor

I am a 24yo female. I recently had my dual-chamber pacemaker replaced. I had my previous machine for a little over 5 years. I now have my new St.Jude Pacer. I had it placed under my pectoral muscle due to my figure(athletic and slim). I have had more pain with this procedure then with the two previous ones. Is it due to scar tissue? I also have noticed a shortness of breath and severe chest pain. I was admitted to my local ER 24 hrs after surgery due to burning sensation and pain. I had an infe...

100% Paced

Is anybody else 100% paced? Probably a crazy question, but my PM was put in 12 years ago as an "on demand" PM. It has only been during my last few check ups that I have been told that I am 100% paced. When I asked what that meant, they said that if my PM every stopped working, I would be dead. During the early years, I never really worried about it because my PM just threw in an extra beat every now and then when my heart would slow down. No big deal really. In fact, I found out my first P...

My Pacemaker Is Starting to 'Exit' My Chest!!

Well, this is a frustrating and worrisome turn of events!

Some brief background:

This is my second pacemaker installation, and it was put in in 2003. My first was in 1995, when I was 36. For heart block. No cause was ever diagnosed: no sign of an unhealthy heart, heart attack, etc. Took forever to find the problem. The first pacemaker gave me not a single problem.

This second installation was rife with complications from the get-go. The first operation put...

pacemaker/full shoulder replacement

I've had a pacemaker since last April 2007. My bone Dr. informed me I needed a full shoulder replacement, when I mentioned to him I now had a pacemaker 100 %. He was at a lose for words at first. He seems to think that the anesthesoligest is the one who will popo this operation. Right now the shoulder is bone on bone and hurts like heck, I want some relief soon. Has anyone out there had a similar problem, did they have the surgery? Was there any problems getting all the Dr's to agree? I'm still...

Flecainide

Has anyone out there been on Flecainide and stopped it? I do have irregularities, and very occasionally very short a-fib episodes, and don't really think the Flecainide has changed anything, but doc recommends I stay on it. I just don't like what I read about it. I take 50 mg. twice a day. PM seems to be working well, is actually working less and my heart working more on its own now. . . yay!

Panic attacks

Here I am again . . . ONE more question. Is anyone experiencing panic attacks after PM implantation? I think maybe some of my night-time awakenings with heart pounding and shaking may in fact be panic or anxiety attacks. Have read that's possible. (I sometimes learn more here than from my doc! Thank you all for your previous responses!) Thanks in advance for any replies!

Long heart Beat

It is me yet again today. Apart from my fatigue and not sleeping I have developed over the last day a feeling that my heart misses a beat. It feels like it stops and then starts again one beat later.

Is this stress as well?

Endocarditis all clear

Hi all,

I posted a while ago saying I'd been in hospital for two months getting treatment for endocarditis after my pacemaker lead became infected. Just yesterday I got a call from my doctor saying the bloods tests and echo are all clear. This is good news because if the infection is gone I won't need open heart surgery to remove a tiny bit of embedded lead that was left when they removed the infected lead.
I had a holter monitor as well which showed my bradycardia and heart blo...
